The gog version had a LOT of issues when I played it (blurry textures, stretched UI in widescreen, fullscreen issues) and I'd personally prefer to play the game in 4:3 anyway. Would've still been nice to have a 16:9 option for the master collection version.
All of the problems with the GOG version are easily solved. The forced bilinear filtering that you mentioned requires nothing more than launching with the -nofilter argument, and you can restore the PS1-style fonts by using -notruetype. There are also fan patches to improve the audio quality and give it proper analogue controls, amongst other things. It's far better than this release after five minutes of fixing up.
@@CaptainKenway while I agree with you, that doesn't really change the fact that it's a bad release. The master collection port will eventually have fan patches and fixes too, but if we're looking at them both without all of that then there's not much in it.
@deskrabbit2190 ahhh.. a fan patch for the ps5...... .... .. . Oh and switch? PC shouldn't even be the topic, Duckstation is the best way to go for mgs1 if your talking PC
@@lovelorn88nick ye I agree with you. All I'm saying is I find it weird that people are using the gog port as some shining example when it also kind of sucked.
People played this and it was loved back then. This isn’t a remaster or remake, it’s a true replica. They’re focusing on an actual remake. What were you guys doing before you got into gaming in 2023?
Honestly I wish the Master Collection never happened. At least that way there would still be hope for a decent port through PS+ Premium, can't see that happening now and I refuse to play this.
What still irks me about the GOG version is that cutscenes run at a mere 24 FPS instead of a full 30 FPS. I'd say rip your own Disc and play it on Beetle PSX HW or DuckStation with all the features, the bells and the whistles.
@skeletonyouth616 exactly lol I just clicked "no wallpaper" it's way better(tho I'd like to use my entire tv). Ps3 would stretch it, n it looks good. Hopefully a future update comes in play.
yeah, those white backgrounds are a bit much. i think the first two dark backgrounds are boring, but the grey fox and snake one is the best of them all anyway.
the gog version has stretched ui if you use the widescreen hack but if you play it in 4:3 it will look like it does on the master collection but out of the box gog will have a black bar at the bottom of the screen but you can remove it easily
i struggled to figure out how to use the xbox controller on pc with MGS1 on gog.. anybody have an idea how to do this? playing with a keyboard is a nightmare
looked forward to this for months bloody dreadful graphics same as they were in 99 thet put a ps1 2 and 3 game in a collection and then charge you 60 for it rip off
The GOG version is THE PC PORT. The one in the Master Collection is the PS1 original. Don't like it? Don't buy it. And it's not a "ripoff". Guess what? These games weren't on current console. Now they are.
I own the originals along with my crt tv and the “MaStEr” collection is actually a downgrade of the originals. I also play these on my Series X in 4k there’s no excuse they should have made these games look better for next gen consoles ESPECIALLY since they added “MaStEr” to the title for whatever reason. Lol there’s a reason this released flopped. Good for the people not settling for a garbage release of these classics

glad i kept my discs for hd collection, seeing this i’d rather just play those until they do a widescreen patch for master collection
MGS1 is just a PS3 download on Legacy Collection. The HD collection don't even have MGS1, nor the NES versions.

Definitely getting the GOG version
I understand the lack of wide-screen options, but why use the brightest most distracting wallpapers?
The art is not the problem it's the white background lol

Konami money grab. Lol
The character portraits on the GOG version seem stretched, that is a dealbreaker for me.

I use the MSGILauncher to deal with the controller issues.
