Hi. I'm not sure if you watched the video but I explained the freezing process. Sticking the crustacean into the freezer for around 15 minutes puts their nerve centres to sleep. This is the best method to HUMANELY kill them. Let me know if there is still confusion!
crab fat/butter aka the liver is where all of the toxins from industrial water pollution collect and concentrate, so here on the west coast of the usa california, oregon and washington we don't eat that stuff.
if you dont eat yellow things then better break the crab, clean before steam, much more easy and faster, also you have more space to add more crab in the pot
lots of different ones come out of china, taiwan and thailand, they look a little different but work the same, a pot with a lid and 2 steaming trays but available in different sizes. i have 2, the small one is 12 inches across the big one is 18 inches across.
When you freeze them they go into hybernation. When you put them in the steamer you wake them up to be steamed alive. Really, if you want to be humane you have to turn them on their backs lift the flap and plung a screwdriver into the body in the middle . Kills them instantly. WOrked in a cr ab shack when I was younger.
In my family - we would put the center of the crab on an edge (like the middle ridge in a sink) and hit the back of the shell with out palm to instantly crack the crab in half, rinse the guts out, then throw them in to cook. Edit: Did anyone else ever grow up hearing the gills referred to as "Devil's Fingers"?
@@HouseofXTia yes tia you’re smart for asking that question. Yes you do need it unless you are a good swimmer who can float for hours then you wouldn’t need a boat. Also the equipments are cheap, you can buy a floatable boat for 30$ then a licensed for crabbing. But it’s all worth it at the end.
Best steamer I've seen in life
haha thank you!
@@HouseofXTia, where did you get that steamer pot? That looks like it makes life a lot easier. Lol.
Simple and instructive video. Just what I wanted. Thank you. Gonna go buy me a crab now :-)
Glad it was helpful! Crab used to intimidate me but its so simple with the right instructions. Enjoy!!

Do the cabs steam evenly if one is steamed on the top pot and another in the bottom or does it need to be rotated?
Yes it evenly steamed but you can also rotate if you want!

gosh that sounds....brutal but good for you for being able to do that! I could not.

You are washing the best part
Sometimes I eat It, sometimes I don’t. Enjoy!
If you love crabs learn how to crab it’ll save you a lot of money.
Wouldn't you need a boat and equipment?

@HouseofXTia we crab right off the docs of marinas in OR. $10 a year license and about $50 for equipment.
Use them in seafood boil with shrimp & mussels
Yum! Do you have a good recipe?
Jeow som is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
honestly so good on everything!
Just paid $14.99 a pound at a 99 Ranch Market in L.A.
How dare you remove the best part of the crab :(
Sometimes I eat it, sometimes I don't. Enjoy!
She bought them, she cooked them, she eats them her way. Period.
Wow! $12.99/lb here in Maine!
pricey! when is crab season in Maine?
5.99 ??? I just bought mine in toronto for 15 bucks zzzz
Aweee. I’m sure it was worth it anyway!
I love ur streamer
thank you! it's great for cooking a lot of things :)
5.99 a lb 3 years later on the east coast 9.99 lb, on the east coast that's a bargain.
I haven’t seen it this low since 😫
What’s the name/brand of your streamer pot?
not sure. it's unmarked. purchased from sea market :)
House of X Tia I ended up finding it on eBay. From a seller in Thailand.
@@daemainscott3541 whats the name of the steamer & the company?
It would be nice to know how long did it take to cook.
Hi. It's noted at 2:04 (15 minutes)!
15 min? Most recommend 8-10
Go with most then 😉
5.99/lb is cheap because they almost dying. Dungees are pretty cheap here in Portland Oregon, but I like to go catch my own
how were they almost dying? of course you will have it as fresh as possible if you're catching it yourself! haha
@@HouseofXTia that's what I was told by the sera shop owner here in Portland, they're not as lively so they sell them for half the price
Boo Salith they’re actually in season after Christmas - mid January so the prices are low 😊
5.99 for a lb is a steal
right!!! lowest I've seen was $3.99 but will take $5.99 any day!
How long stream them forn
15 minutes!
Steam sorry
12-15 min :)
