The definition of discrimination is "treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit."
Affirmative Action takes race, a factor apart from individual merit, into consideration. It is, by definition, discrimination.

+Marshall McCready yeah but discriminating is not sufficient for racism. You need to be discriminating to based on a belief that one races is inferior or superior to others (in this sense, not just skill or talent, but on worth as a a human).

Racial discrimination is not "sufficient for racism?" If you are discriminating based on race, you are making assumptions about the skills and abilities individuals possess based on their skin color. If this is not racism, I'm not sure what is...

Marshall McCready Lol, at least I know it's not necessarily Racism. Please get a dictionary or literally just highlight 'racial discrimination', right click and choose 'Search Google... " Knowing how wrong you are is so accessible, you just have to be willing to admit it.

@@Ciph3rzer0 I think wealth should be taken into account, not race. Race doesn't mean anything when it comes to affecting people's performance, but wealth does. Poor people have harder time cause they have access to less resources.

The end results are always going to lead people to some conclusion regardless of original intent. If affirmative action is used, people will complain. If it isn't used, people will complain.
    Solution: don't use names.
When considering an applicant, DO NOT disclose their name, or perhaps let students use an alias. Use their student# or something. Do not look at their gender, religion, orientation, or ethnic background.
If an institution's goal is to add value to the student body, then judge students AS students. Look at grades, attendance, history, experience, skills, etc... absolutely nothing else is relevant.

Please do not stereotype us fellow latinos as dumb and lazy. On the other hand FUCK RACE BASED AFFIRMATIVE ACTION, it's an awful solution that causes wayy more problems than it solves, I rather choose wealth base cause it prioritizes social class mobility and that is something with a lot less drawbacks I think ~~IDK~~.

When I see the black professor, I wonder if she made it there because of affirmative action.
She might be the smartest person on the panel. Because of affirmative action, I doubt her qualifications.
If it didn’t exist then that thought wouldn’t even come to mind.

    • @Wiiglemaan

Should we abolish discrimination because of what you think ? A The reason you probably doubt about the professor is implicitly because you probably don't see that many professors and guess why you don't see them ? Because they don't get the same opportunities as you. Why don't you doubt when you see a white professor that he got in because he's white ?

I think your reference is extremely flawed. I see your statement that you blame on affirmative action as an excuse for racism. Firstly, this is exactly what affirmative action is fighting. There are MANY people like you in the world, many that accuse minorities of not being qualified before they have the chance to show their qualifications, and it isn’t because of affirmative action but because of racism. Additionally, it is inherently racist on your part to assume that affirmative action benefited her in any way. Not every poc benefits from affirmative action, and merit is still considered when admitting students into colleges and universities. If you stand by your statement, you would do the same for a white woman, considering that by your knowledge, she could’ve “made it there because of affirmative action” as well. And what type of person does that make you assuming that every POC doesn’t have the qualifications to make it into a place of education, and even if affirmative action was the cause, what does it matter if the person is just as qualified and prepared as a person of any other Intersectional background?

    • @wowwhayttl2145

@David Custer you sound like you’re on crack sir. I’m not about to equate a race issue to animals because you obviously don’t understand the background of race and why it’s a thing. Do you think we want it to be a “thing”?? No. But it is. And the fact that you choose not to recognize that is incredibly ignorant. Additionally, you’re arguing on points I never even made😂 your “rant” achieved nothing. I addressed what I was addressing. And by the way, affirmative action isn’t JUST a race thing. So if race isn’t a big problem and we’re all “tHe HuMaN rAcE”, then why did this comment choose to specifically mention a black teacher? Once again, I was justified and calling this assumption racist. And also, you can’t say I’m a bad person then call me a “fucking piece of garbage”. Have a nice day.

how can you say a segment of the population that is visabally being excluded denied and refused whithout adfitional basis from normal and government civil and social activities not actually receiving and suffering the results of discrimination? ....the very 2 words both describe those exact situations and also making the words reverse descrimination bouble negative and null and void. If a white kid from Beverly Hills and a black kid from Compton both got 4.0 GPA, who do you think had to work harder? Who deserves that spot at the school? Please elaborate.

They both get in. They both have the same brain capacity. The kid from Beverly Hills obviously has the money to get in (parents do), but someone from a poverty stricken area has to work their ass off to afford college. Yes it may be harder for someone people due to their living situation. It should not have to do with the color of their skin.

@@sabrinadungan3807 What if there is only 1 spot left? Take into account the rich kid might have access to tons of resources not available to the black kid, he might have tutors, 2 parent household, good teachers, good school, not have to worry about the next meal, not work after school, guidance while applying to college from parents, have oppunitrty to get good extra circulars, do research, etc. There are so many advantages of having more money alone, not to mention the advantages of race. It would be far more impressive for the Black student since he will no doubly have worked harder to get to the same place where the white kid is at. Keep in mind the black kid's grandparents might've been living in jim crow era rules. It's basically like the white kid starting a game of monopoly with his other white friends and an hour into the game, the black kid shows up. Technically the rules are the same for everyone, but the black kid will no doubt struggle to even survive among the others. IDK about you but taking everything into consideration, I would absolutely take the black kid, because I know he has worked his ass off to get to the same place given way worse circumstances.
