  • May 14/2019, Spring Hike
Today we are back in Kananaskis Country, in Evan-Thomas Provincial Park, Alberta. We will be hiking up Wasootch Ridge. The trail is 16 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1000 meters. This is a very popular hike, and I know why now. There were quite a few people on the trail, and a few people with their dogs. I didn’t quite make it to the end, as the weather was coming in, and the wind was really picking up. The views of the mountains are simply amazing. The first kilometer is straight up, but after you get to the ridge, it’s a beautiful walk, with some up and down, but nothing to strenuous. I recommend this hike for anyone.

I see this trail is rated as hard. Is it technical or difficult for someone scared of heights or mainly difficult from the steep terrain?

I believe it is rated difficult because of the elevation gain. It is not technical at all. There are a couple areas where the trail has a steep drop on one side, but overall the trail not hard at all.

How does this hike compare to Kings Creek Ridge, especially during May?

Wasootch Ridge is definately longer, with more up and down. The elevation gain is similar. I think Kings Creek Ridge would be drier as it is exposed more to the sun. Who knows for sure with this crazy spring weather we have been having.
