Even tho it’s illegal, it’s a nice time to hear the audience’s reaction to certain scenes or some goofs that happened in these tapes.
In fact, because of the pandemic that started this decade, the old theater recorded bootleg releases trend probably reached a decline for the first time particularly in Asia (where the pandemic was spreading rapidly) due to some films also being released on streaming early during their theatrical run.

However, acetate and polyester film usually doesn't melt unless it's not working properly, or anyone bumped the projector, which can make this happen. Nitrate films, on the other hand, are rarely used anymore becuz they're flammable and can cause a big fire. They also can be destroyed and burnt easily, thus this is why a lot of silent and nitrate sound films are lost. That movie must be in safety polyester (or acetate if it's a different compound used) film, so that means it's not easily flammable, but it can still melt if heated too much or not working properly.
What does it completely remove the movie's audio when they do that? Does it have something to do with the radio connected to the frequency where the movie audio is playing that's set by the theater?

That's my guess, at least.
