Hi, good job, I've done this too, I just wired the inputs of the flybacks in parallel and then the outputs in series, it was easier that way for me and I dont like batteries... My luck was that I've found a transformer which has 24V and around 20A...since my multi meter cant measure more I dont know for sure xD but mine doesn't needs a little bit of time to grow the sparks it just needs a min of 6-7cm to make a spark it works so awesome !!! You were the one who inspired me to male thos, who showed me how awesome the electricity is !!! Thank you, I soon will make a Tesla coil with it!!! Thank you again and have a good day!
Yes Ludic Science is the one from whom I learnt many things about flybacks and High Voltage... I first made a slayer exciter tesla coil by watching the video of Ludic Science....💯💯💯💯💯💯
I built it. It works well, got over 42 kV on the output (measured with a high voltage probe). But while I was so excited about it (and cranking up the power supply!) one of the flybacks failed. So this setup produces high voltage, but 1) only for short time 2) not in short circuit or no-load mode (leads to internal breakdown quickly). So be careful!
How did you measure the voltage? I have built a voltage divider which is basically the same a HV probe and found the frequncy to be too high to be measured with a simple multimeter.
I think you would pull a longer arc if you moved the wire upward as the spark is intending to go. The ionized air is conductive and warm, so it wants to rise--follow this path. This is precisely why the arc of a Jaccobs's ladder goes up. A Jaccob's ladder will not work if placed on it's side or upside down, as this is not the natural direction of the heated ions.
Is it possible to replace a core of a flyback thing with a chassis mount transformer 60Hz. It should do the same thing right? I don't have flybacks and I am trying to build a mosfet driver for an ignition coil setup.
Connecting the primaries parallel sounds like a good idea to disable the additional ferrite core from the video. However, I think the connection should be antiparallel (switch ZVS leads on one transfomer to get antiparallel phase)? What do you think?
Thought I'd note a correction for you. You said the flybacks are rated at 12kv, when you connect them in series on the output and in parallel on the input, the voltage of the two is added together, not multiplied. Your resulting out voltage is more around 24kv, not 400kv. Also the distance at witch your ark begins seams to support the 24kv range. Look up how to built transformers and when you get deep enough you'll see whats happening when you do unusual configurations with them. You discovered one: 2 transformers paralell input, series output, twice the voltage output, twice the current input, same voltage input. Hope I was helpful. Have fun!
judging by the lengh of that arc and the lack of audible noise, the flybacks output smooth DC and deliver high current. When looking for the voltage, the distance at which the arc begins is important.
You can achieve the same results by eliminating the first ferrite transformer and wrapping the yellow coil around both flyback cores arranged back to back. So you will essentially have one primary wrapped around two cores.
Jerry lucid I made a clean sounding audio modulated zvs driver actually it's combined 555+zvs now you can play music with a flyback transformer do ypu want schematics
with a ZVS circuit one can do even more nasty arcs, with a single flyback and only 24V and 10A at the input. I dont know why, but these seem to be more efficient. Maybe its the frequency or something.
Eeee. Actually I want to know that how can I check that wether the hv diode inside a flyback is damaged or not....actually I have a zvs driver....and I am afraid I ruined my flybacks internal diodes after I peaked 600watts😀.
Why do people always make the high voltage driver circuit using a center tap transformers but not with normal 2 pins, transformer? I'm still in having trouble building the oscilator circuit for the transformer to step up the voltage.
Mightn't it be even better to wire connect the primaries of the flybacks so that the flybacks are 180 degrees out of phase? Then you could connect the two bottom pins together for the series connection, and obtain your high tension from the two high tension wires of the flybacks. This would be more elegant, and possibly avoid potential HV arcs occuring where you don't want them.
1. when you wind wires on FB core first wind it then put the iron holder over the wires. 2 you can wind coils with center taps directly on the flyback cores and connect them completely in series (best 3+3 for high voltage) or you can wind half coil on one core and the other half on the other, just make sure you use thick wires and connect the capacitor as near as possible to the coil if you do so. 3 get a straw, do a hole in it, put the wire and now you have chicken stick. great video and you can make part 2 with some audio signal on a second wire on the input inductor
If you bypass the diodes in the flybacks or wind your own flyback secondary cores, can this circuit drive them to produce AC instead of DC? Perhaps by winding each half of primary in different directions?
Most flybacks you will find are filled with solid resin and its impossible to get rid of the diodes, making them useless for many applications, as it usually outputs pulsed DC. This one however outputs smooth DC as you can see from the arc being able to grow bigger when pulling the wires apart after it jumped, which can be useful for a Jacobs ladder for example. Winding the secondary yourself is pretty much impossible aswell because it needs a huge amount of turns in a small area perfectly isolated, but you can find some rare flybacks that either have the diodes outside of the case, or no diodes at all, which makes them perfect for many AC projects.
How did you extract that center core from an old flyback? And could i use two flybacks in parallel to increase its current or make the flyback last longer due to shared load = less heat? I know you could increase current by adding capacitors since adding capacity would decrease the voltage thus increasing the current... but that bit is too tricky to find a good balance.
hi... i tried to make the zvs driver for flyback but... it didnt work on my flyback. the flyback is new one and it work with joule thief driver. is there any type of flyback that doesnt work with zvs driver?
Yes but i live i germany and dont have one (looking on the street is illegal) so i have to buy one but which one is suitable with a high voltage but low amperage...?
I am going to try this with 4 flybacks AWESOME!!!
+ivan R
DONT LOOSE YOUR HEAD !!!
dont worry :D I just finished it :) IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!! (until one flyback released the magic smoke).
ivan R
lol
+Ivan R I doubt it, flyback are not easy to release smoke since it's all glued
SandPox trust mre, 400kv is enough to release the magic smoke from anything!

Dear Lord do you still have all your limbs?
@@mareksvrcina5279 If that's true then an ossiloscope should do you fine
Though this has very high current; shown by the plasma; the voltage is quite low: Maybe 10kv max judging by the initial spark gap ignition.
Thumbs up :)

reckon those gloves are appropriate? Looks like cotton

Awesome video as always !!!
i want to see both transformers power a tesla coil !

Impressive all the way around especially that you built your own ZVS driver. Very clean 👌
Everything is better in series including flybacks!
Can use swtching power supply for cctv sùch as 12v/30a. Thanks
Yes you can
at what point is that likely to destroy those flybacks?
Good question. I also have this doubt.
What would happened if You wound opposite direction coils on ferite core instead of same ?
Is it possible to replace a core of a flyback thing with a chassis mount transformer 60Hz. It should do the same thing right? I don't have flybacks and I am trying to build a mosfet driver for an ignition coil setup.
Put 8 to 10 turns primery coil on each transormer and connect them in parallel directly to output of the driver, you wil have higher voltage.
Connecting the primaries parallel sounds like a good idea to disable the additional ferrite core from the video. However, I think the connection should be antiparallel (switch ZVS leads on one transfomer to get antiparallel phase)? What do you think?
Im worried for your health man those gloves are not going to help you
Why couldn't you just connect flybacks in parallel
The secondary windings of the flybacks must be wound in opposite directions.
Thought I'd note a correction for you. He said 20kV not 12kV and 40kV and not 400kV
He is getting at least 40,000 Volts judging by the length of that arc...
judging by the lengh of that arc and the lack of audible noise, the flybacks output smooth DC and deliver high current. When looking for the voltage, the distance at which the arc begins is important.

Interesting how these arcs follow some wave patterns, especially 24v-one.
Like here: 3:02 the arcs bother to make circular form.
I'm pretty sure that's because the plasma is hot and thus rises upward
Ludic how much input is
Tis is absolutely wrong connection which can produce breakdown in high voltage coils. You are lucky.
What , you are using cloth gloves as HV protection !!
Not series, parallel, same voltage twice the amperage, not the other way around. Do your research! Stop telling it wrong.
its more like less capacitance give less voltage it even lower voltage than mine 5uf cap in a ZVS with 1 flyback
Nice and interesting project but very very dangerous:)
You know it's high frequency and touching it only burns you right?
Just imagine electroboom trying to make something like this
Kaboom
Please provide the circuit diagram
that is 1cm so not more then 10kv. its the breakedown distance of non ionized air that counts not how long one can draw the arc.
The problem here that your arc starts from 2 cm distance it generates 20kV.

yes zvs is a beast!
How much amps do you need for zvs fiyback transformer driver
Thats a big arc, good job!
are posible use that for CO2 laser power supply.?
If i connect the fbt in parralel, can i get bigger amp@current ?
can it be. used to power ion thruster
@@thomasmaloney6537 Most flyback transformers have a rectifier diode which ensures the output is DC. So, you probably could use it.

How would you add frequency generator to this circuit
Wooooow!!! That could be a good trap ;p

You should adding more capacitor for the primary coil. Over 150 KHz is bad.
What's special about that Mazzili driver? can you link to you link to an original circuit or your circuit diagram?
thanks
Then looks like you would only get shocked one time!
actually sir I am not getting that of what value of capacitor and diodes we have to use and the input supply also 😞😞😞😞

Yes, secondary in series doubles the voltage, secondary in parallel doubles the current.
