THIS ACTUALLY WORKED. I have an S3 which I borrowed from a friend so imagine my panic when it started messing up. I watched another video for opening it up since it's different inside than the s2, but once I did, the power button was the same, so I squeezed the little metal around it, which allows it to push up the foam under the button. I put it back together and lo and behold it works perfectly. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU YOU SAVED ME FROM AN AWKWARD CONVERSATION.
I'm grateful for having seen this video... worked for my Sprint Galaxy S III... It has been out of commission for months... was going to use insurance, this saved me $150! Thank you!
Holy crap, man ! You just saved me like $300 with this video. Fixed my sisters phone and now I don't need to buy her a new one. Merry X-Mas indeed ! haha
DUDE THANK YOU pressing the power button repeatedly WORKED I was freaking out then again you try explaining to your broke mom that your phone broke YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER again THANKS
You just saved me around $500nz dollers i was looking for a new phone but i followed your video and boom it came back to life! I would buy you a beer of i could. much respect man.
Perfect! Worked with my S3! One point to notice is on the S3, there's a wire that connects to the "motherboard" in which you removed in this video. It seems that this wire on the S3 is fixed to the board and did not look like it should be removed. So instead of removing the entire board, I just popped up the corner where the power button is and pressed the same way you did. Put it back together and it worked.
Dude, you fixed my phone man. I know that this video will continue to fix other peoples Galaxy SII in the future. This is a terrific instructional video to learn how to fix that annoying flashing and vibrating problem when you are trying to turn on your phone.
Respect. 100% completely worked for me. I checked out the soldering iron video and didn't really have all the tools nor the time. This fix takes about 15-20 minutes at most to complete. It's even easier than it looks. S4 working again!
Thanks! This worked like a charm on my sisters Galaxy S2. She can't afford to get a new phone right now and when her power button start acting up and causing her phone to shutdown...vibrate, shutdown, vibrate shutdown...we determined it had something to do with the power button. We followed yer instructions...actually, we had to do it twice because I was afraid to squeeze the needle nose pliers too tight and break something. So I gradually tightened the 3 places you suggested on the power button box. Thank you so much... you saved us a lot of money.
Thank you, I kept searching fixes but it either needed to take off the power button or other options that weren't right and it finally fixed it, I never comment on videos but I just needed to say thanks because I've been at it for HOURS and it finally worked. You're the man.
I just fixed my Galaxy Note power button. I didn't touch the inside power button but added about 1mm of double-sided tape between the outside button of the housing and the inside button. Thanks for your video and best wishes from germany
I spent a lot of time doing this method tonight trying to get my phone back to normal. It started as any time the battery was put in, the phone would turn itself on and then shut off seconds later, never to turn on again. First: IT WORKED. Second: BE CAREFUL AND PATIENT I believe the cause of these errors is the switch's metal case gradually becoming compressed with multiple cycles of pushes, causing the switch to permanently be "on". When I first did this, I squeezed as shown in the video and found that I had actually compressed the case more on the "short ways" side than it started as, making it so the button couldn't even click up and down anymore. I had to squeeze it "long ways" to get it to bow out and fix the issue. This is what disengages the power button. My recommended method goes like this: you want to squeeze the "long ways" to get the case to bow out. Don't squeeze the "short way" yet! Put your motherboard back in, hook up all the connections, and put in the motherboard screw in and a couple screws close to the power button (to limit deflection of the motherboard when pushing the button). Try it out with the battery, and see if it turns on, and also pay attention to how much force or how much depth the button takes for the push to register on your phone. You'll find that the more bowed out it is, the less the button is engaged, and the harder it is to actually get the button push to register. You might have to push REALLY hard if it's really bowed out. That's okay. Just take it apart again, and squeeze a LITTLE bit on the "short way". Rinse and repeat, and eventually you'll find the sweet spot where the button works like it did before. Also, know that assembling the whole device with all of the screws brings the button closer to the switch and provides even more rigidity. This means that the button will register easier with all screws in than with just the 2 I recommend using when testing it out. It also means that if you get it working great with just 2 screws in, you might have it be too close (and causing the same issue again!) when you put all of the screws back in. Good luck everyone. Losing a phone to the failure of a 5 cent part is bullshit. Hopefully this will get it off of the ropes.
I was about to get my soldering iron out, got a replacement button for my S3 from ebay. I thought it wouldn't hurt to watch a few videos about what others did... I am very happy I watched your video! I looks like this works. And this methods is so much easier than soldering this 1.5mm button... THANK YOU Also I wish many more would have watched your video. In most other videos, people just remove the button fml
Wow, at first I thought it had a virus, and then I thought it overheated and was just freaking out...but all I had to do was bang it up against my bed. Amazing. Thank you!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I had this problem for three days now and the forums online said it was a sticky power button issue, but they did not tell me what to do to fix it. I tried pressing the power button multiple times and hitting my phone's power button on a hard surface but that didn't work. Then i found this video! I was scared of taking apart my phone at first but the steps were pretty easy. Luckily, my dad's toolbox had what I needed too. It didn't work the first time I did it, but I took it apart and squeezed the power button again and IT WORKED!! yayayay!!
I have been without my for phone for days now. People tried to fix my phone, but had no luck. I found your site and I'm sooooo happy I did! I followed your video and WOW, my phone works! Thank you ever, ever so much!
Thanks so much for posting! This worked on my old Galaxy S2. Although, after doing the 2nd part - squeezing the sides (front to back), the button was always depressed. So, I did it again, but only did the first part (squeezing the sides) - and it worked like a charm! Thanks again!
Hey Thanks a lot! I was able to fix my son's phone using your squeeze method. I didn't work the first time I tried it, but then we went back and squeezed a little harder. Now it works like a charm. You saved us a pile of money. How did you ever even think to do this? Pure genius. Thanks!
OMG THANK YOU. I banged my phone fairly hard like 10 times, then click the power button, no result. Bang it some more, then did the repeated pressing of the button, and in like 15 seconds total it worked!
Like everyone else here, I was very skeptical. I've had this exact issue before, and tried getting a new battery. It worked for about 3 months, with the problem happening less than 10 times since. But last night, my samsung galaxy blaze (s2 equivalent) started pulsating with no success of turning on. I troubleshooted the power button by repeatedly pressing it proving it was the power button, found this video and tried it. I had to tighten and test it about 8 times before I got it to work but finally, just like in the video... NO MORE PROBLEMS. Thanks Mister!
This worked like a charm for my sons phone...simple snd easy solution for a weak or defective power button that becomes stuck over time. Saved us a few bucks st the repair shop too.
I know this is an old video to an even older phone but I wanted to let you know your fix worked for my dinosaur Samsung Galaxy S2! Awesome, thank you very much. FYI, I lived in Long Beach CA for five years, I miss the place and hope to return some day.
Worked for me, but only for a couple of days. I just did the same procedure over again and everything seems fine for now. Thank you for posting this. I really need my phone for travel the next couple of days and would have been a major hassle to try to get a new one in such short time.
Dude! Thank you so much! I was dreading that I would have to switch phones before my upgrade, this problem was driving me nuts! No more power button issues now! Great fix!
i just did the banging method and then repeatedly pressed the power button and it turned on. It takes a few tries though! thanks so much im glad i found this video!!!!!!!
You are AMAZING!!! I followed this video, and it 100% fixed my Galaxy S3!! Saved me hundreds of dollars!! Thank you so much!! You definately earned my subscription!
Although I have to get a power button, you showed me how to make sure that I needed one. It's only three bucks, and now I have the confidence to take the phone apart again to replace it. Thank you!
Yeah, I should have watched that video and not assumed it was a snap-on part! We ended up getting her a new phone. Oh wel, at least I was only out three bucks
Thank you! I've tried everything, this was the only thing that worked :) I read online somewhere that if this happens to your phone there's nothing you can do about it, you have to get a new phone/get it fixed by a professional, blah blah blah, but i stumbled onto your video and it proved them wrong.
This worked on my original Galaxy S, though some additional disassembly was required. It's working fine now 1 day later and I hope this will be a long-term fix. Thank you for this video! I did have to crush it a fair bit with the needle nose pliers and I was afraid I was breaking it because I kinda smushed the internal power button housing a little bit out of shape (sides were bulging out a little so it was no longer perfectly rectangular). But I charged up the phone and its working great now. Thanks again.
I figured there was no way this was going to work. Such a simple action couldn't possibly fix such a frustrating problem. But it worked perfectly. Thank you.
Will be trying this tomorrow. Nothing else seemed to work that I have seen online. I have tried cleaning the power button, wiggling it on start up, using an eraser (idk why but a lot of people were suggesting it and saying it worked), slamming it against a table..pretty much everything. If this doesn't work, then eBay offers a service for 15-40 bucks depending on who you use and you can ship your phone to them and they will replace the power button for you and ship it back. I searched "Galaxy s2 power switch repair service" and found them that way. Just thought I would share that with everyone who broke theirs or can't get it to work no matter how hard they try. Great idea! Can't wait to try it tomorrow!! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much for sharing this info! My galaxy S2 Skyrocket i727 had power button issues ever since it hit the floor one day. I was able to bang / tweak the power button to work for a while, but it kept coming back. I followed your instructions in the video on opening up the phone and using the needle nose pliers just like you did. First time I tried it didn't work (phone turned on by itself and kept shutting off, which meant the power button was stuck), but the second time I followed the same pliers step but squeezed a bit more gently and prayed fervently. It works! You are a God-send. Thanks! :D
Wow, thanks! I recently revived my old S4 to listen to Books and music while running. After watching this video and reading some comments, I just firmly squeezed and wiggled the power button around a bit and now it's unstuck!
You, sir, are a genius. This worked perfectly. I had to squeeze the switch moderately hard with a pliers a few times until it worked. If the phone turns on immediately (without pressing the power switch) when you insert the battery (but then goes into a boot loop), then the switch is a likely cause of this fault. If squeezing the switch fails, then the alternative is to replace the switch or, if that is too tricky for some people, then replace the main board (both parts are available on Ebay).
thanks, man. My phone decided to become a bitch at midnight and i stumbled upon your video. You just saved me from paying 100 dollars to ripoff and saved me from missing morning lecture. Kudos to you, bro
Thank you for your help. I just bought a used one and I couldn't get it to turn on and off..I will try it..I think my boyfriend will be amazed that I fixed it with your help..
BRO! PURE GENIUS! I was out pricing phones today because my S2 had all these symptoms. Tried everything to fix, stumbled across this. It worked after two attempts of reshaping the power switch. THANK YOU for posting
It worked.. thank you sir.. though I did squeeze it to hard and the metal piece came off its foundation... but with some aluminum foil.. it patch right up.. thanks again man
Tried this with my S3 and it seems to be working, though it took several tries. I think Mike Plichta had the right idea about needing to release pressure. My S3 is nearly two years old and has been dropped more times that I'd like so I think it's completely plausible that after years of pushing the power button, the switch finally got "sticky." After squeezing around the metal in various places and testing the results several times, it looks like I finally have a functioning power button. Thank you for the video!
Just HAD to come back and THANK YOU for this. Just saved me like 200 dollars, dude. Thanks! I also added ONE SINGLE DROP (no more no less) of WD40 to the TIP of the power button AFTER I squeezed it (or else it will squeeze the WD40 into the circuits). This whole fix might take a few days to a week to start working as the S4's switch has a certain type of circuit board that lasts longer than regular ones. It took mine a few days for this fix to "settle in" to the switch and the circuit board. Thank you, again.
Worked for me. The problem I had was that the button was always a closed circuit (like it was being pressed). Recommend for safety and sanity sake that you use a multi-meter on resistance mode to check that the two solder points on the button have infinite resistance when the button is out, and close to zero resistance when the button is pressed. That way you don't have to keep taking the phone apart and assemble over and over (risking damage) to verify it functions. For me, I could plainly see that the button housing was touching the button circuit connection points, so I actually used a screwdriver to separate it slightly, and scrape away excess solder. I also thoroughly drenched the button in rubbing alcohol and pressed the button a bunch of times to clean it's internals. Thanks for the video, was definitely helpful for dis-assembly and diagnosis.
Yes! Thank you! For people like me with a Sprint Galaxy S2 (and perhaps other variants), please note that there are also two screws holding down the circuit board. You can't just disconnect the ribbon cables and pull the board out. After the switch-squeezing, it was still rebooting, but I wiggled the switch button a bit (before reassembly) and now it seems to be fixed. We'll see how long this lasts...
Thank you so much!!! I was bummed out today since my phone started doing exactly like yours this Christmas. I'm so glad I came across your video since I tried other and it didn't work for me. Now my phone works after I followed your video. Thank you so much again for posting this! Merry Christmas!
I've referenced this video twice and it has saved my phone both times! Thank you! Be careful when putting everything back together though, I pushed down too hard on my micro SD slot and heard a crack...still works though.
OMG!!!! It WORKS. I tried the Compressed Air, Recovery of Stock ROM etc, but it went straight back to vibrating. My next move was to replace the phone (which i already initiated). I'll watch it for a couple of days/weeks. I'll also share this across the other forums. Thanks again
yeah i did the same thing i thought it was a rom thing making my power button tripping. then realize it wasnt the rom but the power button. im so glad i found this method when i was messing with the phone trying to figure how to fix it.
You're awesome! Took like 3 or 4 tries, plus some luck, but got mine working. After the third time, it wouldn't power on at all, but on the fourth I went for broke and clamped it against the board too. That did it. Thanks!
Worked for me. Thanks a lot! Only question is, is it supposed to bend the metal casing around the button? I couldn't really see with the way that the camera lost its focus as you brought it close.
Question. If my volume button is experiencing some technical difficulties for example, I'm hearing music and out of nowhere the volume increases or decreases without me even touching it at all. Should I try out your method like squeezing the button or another? Please help.
Squeezed too tight and broke it. Then squeezed it back into shape which fixed it PLUS THE ORIGINAL ISSUE!!!! Thanks IAmKambodian, This is my 2nd time trying this. The first was with my S3 and I fixed it by pushing the button lots of times. I can say with gladness, it's been doing great. Now I have an S2 I just bought. It had an ultra sensitive power button. Just touching the button activated it. No pressure required. So I gave this method a shot. It didn't help. I tried a 2nd time and squeezed too hard, crushing it a little. I tried to push it back into shape, but the button wouldn't work after that. I felt like garbage but brushed it off. I'm tired of feeling shitty about stuff. I tried again to squeeze it back into shape. I just squeezed in the opposite direction. And it worked!!! Holy shit, thank god!!! And guess what else? IT FIXED THE ORIGINAL ISSUE TOO!!!!!!!!!!! The button isn't sensitive anymore -- it works perfectly!! Goddamn I feel good. I dodged a bullet.
Samsung Galaxy S4 here, worked like a charm. Thanks a ton dude, I was really apprehensive about having to remove the button and download an app just to start this bitch.
U are freaking awesome! that vibration sound was pissing me off so much. I was about to take it in for repair but decided to google first. So happy I came across your video! Thanks sooo much!!!
I just did this last night and so far no restarts. This is an awesome change considering I've gone the last week afraid to use my phone because it would likely set off a restart. Thanks ***** !
You sir, are a genius. This works where as the alcohol bath didn't. Something in the switch is just too "tight" and squeezing releases the pressure on it so it stops shorting out. I did not try soldering which would have been the next stop.
My S5's outer power button was broken, i used to open my phone using something sharp like a plastic card, ruler, etc. But one day, it cant.today, I have searched all part of the internet for 5-6 hours, , and found this video. i literally just banged my phone on the table for like 5 times, and i spanked the power button with an aluminum ruler, and BAM ! Praise the lord, thanks m8
Thanks, this worked to fix my Galaxy S3. I thought it was bricked and the best I could find was videos showing how to destroy the power button and learn other 'trick' methods to turn the phone on afterwards. After following those steps my phone is up and running and even if it's only a short-term solution I have a chance to back everything up. Thanks again!!
That fixed it! I grew very concerned when trying to reassemble when I couldn't get the camera attached. Didn't realize I accidrntly detached it from the circuit board. So PSA, make sure you take the camera off along with the circuit board or you'll have to do extra work.
IamKambodian, I thank you very much for posting this video. I following your instructions, and after squeezing the switch assembly repeatedly, my phone will no longer attempt to boot up upon battery insertion. The power button still does not work in powering up the phone, but that is okay because at least I now confirmed that the power switch is definitely the faulty part, and I have ordered a replacement switch already. LIked and subscribed. :)
Yes! It worked! Seriously thanks you so much! Hopefully it stays fixed. Unfortunately did a factory reset before finding your video and lost all my data but I don't care! Thanks so much again!

HUGE thumbs up!!!! Fixed my wife's Galaxy S4! 10/10 THANK YOU!!!!
I tried three times, the first it didn't work, the second time the button was too tight I couldn't press it. Finally it worked!. Thanks!
I just tried this on a failing power button and it works. It's worth a shot if you find your power button is not working. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you, I kept searching fixes but it either needed to take off the power button or other options that weren't right and it finally fixed it, I never comment on videos but I just needed to say thanks because I've been at it for HOURS and it finally worked. You're the man.

After watching this video and reading some comments, I just firmly squeezed and wiggled the power button around a bit and now it's unstuck!
glad my video still helping
You, sir, are a genius.
This worked perfectly. I had to squeeze the switch moderately hard with a pliers a few times until it worked.
If the phone turns on immediately (without pressing the power switch) when you insert the battery (but then goes into a boot loop), then the switch is a likely cause of this fault. If squeezing the switch fails, then the alternative is to replace the switch or, if that is too tricky for some people, then replace the main board (both parts are available on Ebay).
yup
Thank you so much dude! I just followed your procedure and fixed the power button of my Galaxy S3!! AWESOME!!!
thanks, man.
THANK YOU for posting
glad to help
Thanks buddy,it worked on my old s2 d710. Now I have my old phone back. Great job.
It just worked for me, and the button is not ultra sensitive anymore. Thanks BOSS
WOOT! just tried the SQUEEZE method on my S3 and it worked! Thanks for your vid, that button was driving me nuts.
i know that feeling
It worked.. thank you sir.. though I did squeeze it to hard and the metal piece came off its foundation... but with some aluminum foil.. it patch right up.. thanks again man
I was skeptical at first, but this fixed my problem. 100% Try this
does it works the same on other adroid phone ? mine's samsung galaxy note 1
It works! I found that if u squeeze the white button inward using a plier it actually works!
literally just finished doing this to my phone watching this video. so far so good! thanks for the tip!
Thanks a mill man! My phone had the same problem and I'm glad I found your video.
Thanks, this worked! The 1st time I tried it didn't work. Took everything apart again and squished harder, and voila perfect!
happy it work for you. now enjoy your phone again
this one really works i used the same procedure for my Galaxy Y...Thanks a lot man!
Thanks for the video, was definitely helpful for dis-assembly and diagnosis.
squeezed the power button box thing onto the logic board hard, this fixed it! Thanks
Yes!
We'll see how long this lasts...
i never had screw holding the mother board. probably for different model phone. and mine still working havent had problem still.
thank you !!!! took a few tries of tightening, thanks for pointing out if it turns on by itself it's still loose.
Thank you so much!!! I was bummed out today since my phone started doing exactly like yours this Christmas. I'm so glad I came across your video since I tried other and it didn't work for me. Now my phone works after I followed your video. Thank you so much again for posting this! Merry Christmas!
no problem.
I've referenced this video twice and it has saved my phone both times! Thank you! Be careful when putting everything back together though, I pushed down too hard on my micro SD slot and heard a crack...still works though.
glad it help you
OMG!!!! It WORKS. I tried the Compressed Air, Recovery of Stock ROM etc, but it went straight back to vibrating. My next move was to replace the phone (which i already initiated). I'll watch it for a couple of days/weeks. I'll also share this across the other forums.
Thanks again
yeah i did the same thing i thought it was a rom thing making my power button tripping. then realize it wasnt the rom but the power button. im so glad i found this method when i was messing with the phone trying to figure how to fix it.
after i put it together, i had to tap it on the counter, but son's phone works now. Thanks!!
I couldn't really see with the way that the camera lost its focus as you brought it close.
i dont know. mine had a crack right in the middle of the metal on the power button. and it was bend alittle nothing major
I was thinking to change the button, but this way easier... I'll give it a shot, thanks alot
Took me a couple times to do, but it's working right now. Thanks man
this actually worked my note 3 power button was cut and it was stuck rebooting and never turned on you saved me thanks
Just tried this - so far so good. Thanks for posting!
awesome instructions. worked perfectly. I was ready to buy a new phone. Thanks
Thank you so much!! I had to retry it 4 times, but it finally worked!!! I definitely would not have been able to fix it without your video. =]
Not only did you make feel smart but you also saved me some money , thanks man !
Thanks IAmKambodian,
This is my 2nd time trying this.

Dude, you're a genius!!! Also a great guy for sharing this info. Thanks!!!
U are freaking awesome! that vibration sound was pissing me off so much. I was about to take it in for repair but decided to google first. So happy I came across your video! Thanks sooo much!!!
your welcome.
omg it really works!! i squeezed the power button with my finger nails and it stil worked! thanks you saved me cx
finger nail squeeze work too haha. that a first
I just did this last night and so far no restarts. This is an awesome change considering I've gone the last week afraid to use my phone because it would likely set off a restart. Thanks ***** !
i know what you mean. i was in the same situation
Thank you! I saved my phone's life with this trick! Smart thinking.
You sir, are a genius. This works where as the alcohol bath didn't. Something in the switch is just too "tight" and squeezing releases the pressure on it so it stops shorting out. I did not try soldering which would have been the next stop.
alcohol bath? sound stupid. soldering is hard unless you have experience. and replacing the power button is hard.
Thank you so much for showing us how to easily fix the s2! You are awesome!!! ^_^
awesome trick!! Thanks! now my Galaxy s3 works!! you are a genius!!
this saved me from buying a new phone! thank you so much!!
Praise the lord, thanks m8
ill upgrade my phone soon, ill just try not to turn off my phone till the day i upgrade my phone, and clone all the data, thank you so much :*
Thanks. This worked great for me. Was soo frustrated with my phone
Just saved my old S2. Thank you!
THANK YOU for taking the time to post this great video!! It was a BIG help to us!!!!
+Da K Man no problem
worked 100%
Been madly clicking for 2 hrs and its working perfectly
Thanks, this worked to fix my Galaxy S3. I thought it was bricked and the best I could find was videos showing how to destroy the power button and learn other 'trick' methods to turn the phone on afterwards. After following those steps my phone is up and running and even if it's only a short-term solution I have a chance to back everything up. Thanks again!!
no problem. it been almost a yr and couple months since ifound out this method and still havent failed me yet
That fixed it! I grew very concerned when trying to reassemble when I couldn't get the camera attached. Didn't realize I accidrntly detached it from the circuit board. So PSA, make sure you take the camera off along with the circuit board or you'll have to do extra work.
You are a genius, it worked in my S4, very good tutorial, greetings from Mexico
IamKambodian, I thank you very much for posting this video.
I following your instructions, and after squeezing the switch assembly repeatedly, my phone will no longer attempt to boot up upon battery insertion.
The power button still does not work in powering up the phone, but that is okay because at least I now confirmed that the power switch is definitely the faulty part, and I have ordered a replacement switch already.
LIked and subscribed. :)
your welcome, happy to help you
Yes! It worked! Seriously thanks you so much! Hopefully it stays fixed. Unfortunately did a factory reset before finding your video and lost all my data but I don't care! Thanks so much again!
