  • This part is super cheap and easy to replace yourself. Don't go to a mechanic if you have this problem.
Is your washer fluid leaking on your vehicle? Learn how to replace the washer pump. This guide will teach you how to replace the window washer fluid pump and grommets on a 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T FSI. This video shows the entire oil change process: lifting the car, removing panels, prepping new parts and removing old parts. Works for all model years of the VW Passat B6 generation (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011). This video is a definitive and comprehensive guide for how to repair a leaky windshield washer tank.
For clarity, this video guide is only for the 2.0T FSI engine, and might work with the VR6. While there is a B6 TDI outside of North America, I can't say for sure if the parts or placement is the same. Your mileage may vary on the VR6 or TDI versions of the Passat.

IMPORTANT - The pump he has shown is for VW Passat B6 WITHOUT headlight washer!!
For the version with headlight washer, you have to dismantle the front bumper a bit to get to it - it is basically on the same space, but not accesible from the inside.

Alan brilliant thanks, I thought I was going to have to replace bottle as leaking and take out from the top... Your video has helped me immensely 👍 Many thanks Johnny

That's exactly what I thought when I first got the leak but the pump does have a reputation to leak even when it is still working, so definitely evaluate the pump before taking the whole tank out. Thanks for your comment, it's motivating for me to continue making videos when hearing that my videos are helping people. Best of luck!

This helped me a lot! I did everything on my passat B6 without taking off the wheel, I just removed the lower fender liner. In my case I also had to replace the fuse number 42, it can be found in the internal fuse box on the left side.

Awesome, I am so glad it helped you. Out of curiosity, had you already replaced the fuse and had it pop again before you replaced the washer pump? And does it seem like so far everything is good? It's interesting to hear you say that a bad pump popped the fuse. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I found that the fuse popped after I replaced the pump, the new one was not working as well. I tested the old pump with a 12V line and it's definitely dead @@mldiy

@asteriscopuntodeb Appreciate the response and thanks for confirming that it does indeed sound like a bad pump can short and pop a fuse. 👍

This only applies when you dont have headlight washers, because the tank with headlight washer has a different tank and the pumps can't be accessed from under the front wheel arch, instead, they are hidden behind the front bumper.

The ID of the pump you listed was not the right one for my passat (2007 B6 2.0 TDI).
In the future videos I recommend you research a bit more and list all the possibilities of parts. Because there is quite a number of different types of passat B6

Hi Ray, sorry it was the wrong part and thanks for taking the time to let me know. I genuinely thought it was the same. If you have the part number handy, I would love to update my description to correct my assumptions (and I will do so even if you don't respond, just figure I'd ask for help). I definitely don't want to spread bad info on the internet, so again, your comment is much appreciated.

(Second reply) ok, I'm not crazy. We didn't get the B6 TDI in the US, so the possibility of it using different parts just never came up in my research. I'm happy to add reference to it in my description though, but I can't even search parts for it easily here.

Hi! Very curious for more details. My understanding is the wagon/avant had the washer pump in the same location, except it uses a dual pump washer pump. Thanks for watching and commenting. Please do share, I'm here to learn!
