I had no clue that Mrs. Novik created Archive of Our Own! Mind blown today. Really enjoyed this talk, and thinking about the role of fanfiction both in my personal life and the world of stories as a whole.
This isn't about _Uprooted_, but that alright, much as I'd like to hear about _Uprooted_. It's about the history and practices of fanfiction, a very successful gift economy, and what can happen when people care tremendously about what they're doing and giving pleasure to each other and money isn't involved.
Fascinating stuff. Also: this clarifies my frustration with getting "critiques" the few times I've shared my (non-fan)fiction: I always have the impulse to discuss the comment a critiquer has; they always just want to me to accept their comment and move on. PS, Nancy! ::wave wave::

I'm reading 'Uprooted' right now, seeing Naomi and hearing her has made the book much more enjoyable. I can feel her presence in the in the book.
I love this Talk.
So cool that she also started AOOO.
