Re is having so much fun on stage. She wasn't a huge dancer, but the choreographer set this up for her comfort level. Very tasteful dancing about this passion
This is probably the first time I've seen the Queen perform with dancers like this. Wow. Great interactive choreography. She looks comfortable with it all too.
Aretha lost more than 40 pounds around 1973- '74. She had said, that like most women who lose significant weight, she felt like a brand-new woman! There were photos of her titled: THE NEW ARETHA! She started customarily wearing more sexy outfits and visually exuded a more heightened degree of sexiness and femininity. Her live shows many times, had a Las Vegas flair to them, while she often came on stage singing classic Broadway showtunes being carried around the stage, on the shoulders of muscular dancers and at times, she would partake in choreographed numbers with them. Other times, she'd come out draped in various elaborate, full-length fur coats or costumes. One time I saw her do a segment of Josephine Baker songs, wearing similar outlandish outfits that J. Baker was known for!
A most favourite of mine Aretha was not only a fantastic Queen of Soul but all feelings were included in all her song! An eternal Queen and Legend! I will always miss you Aretha Franklin!❤RIP.
This was the time her voice was in the perfect spot. I was only in the 7th grade and played the hell out of this album and it was actually played in regular rotation starting with Break It To Me Gently and then Sunshine will Never Be The Same and then When I Think About You then Touch Me Up was played to DEATH on the major radio stations but it couldn't break Natalie Coles uprising at the time. I am surprised it didn't sale much better than it did. I bought the album twice and then the 8track but Natalie Cole took the nation by storm and the world was ready for Aretha to sit down. No matter how much of a superior vocalist Aretha was, Natalie was the new thing,
Every transcending, legendary superstar has peaks and valleys. In the end, Aretha remained THEE thing and even though Natalie had her "it girl" moment for a short time, we saw what happened in the long term, in terms of prolonged popularity, transcendence, and who tributed who. Not to take anything away from Ms Cole because she is a legendary singer, and artist herself. It's a marathon and Aretha will always be in the race, setting the standard for eternity, for others to live up to- whether "Sweet Passion" Ree, “I've Never Loved a Man” Ree, “La Diva” Ree, "Who's Zooming Who" Ree, "A Rose is Still A Rose" Ree, “ Diva’s Live” Ree or Ree playing Nessum Dorma for her granddaughter on the piano, on her death bed. Timeless is timeless, which is why Ree NEVER sat down- even in death. Because that's what legends do- exert sweet passion 😊
I think you hit it right on the head. We all know that Natalie was nowhere close to Aretha vocal wise, it was just the fact that the world just was ready for some one new. They are both gone but People are still screaming over Aretha not so much Natalie.
...great comment and context, Cleo! Today is my first time ever hearing this song but I definitely remember hearing "This Will Be" and "Inseperable" everywhere as a kid!! Thanks!
@@cleopatrajones2024 ...i learned that Natalie got some songs that Aretha had passed on but not which songs specifically so thanks for the info.. i watched Aretha's lovely tribute to Natalie as well last night!
Can you-we-all say: R E S P E C T!! What SEXY lyrics and a fantastic performance by the 👸🏼 of SOUL, Love Aretha’s backup dancers too. Am definitely “feeling” THIS!! … 🥰
What a thrill and delight to see this performance. I saw it when it first aired and she hosted the show. I pray that I could see the other songs she performed during this show one day, and the song "More Than Just A Joy,' that she sang when Wolf-Man Jack hosted. Thank you much!!!
ua-cam.com/video/Y5bDuW8EGoM/v-deo.htmlsi=vkwS73VOBr9TMFqn they just uploaded “when I think about you”! My favorite off the album. The horns are a killer!
@@Thinkbeforeyoutype There is a live performance of Touch Me Up that Aretha performed in Canada. It is truly on FIRE! Aretha brings the audience to their feet dancing and clapping to her powerful vocals! It's one dynamic performance!
Times had changed and Aretha was very stubborn in what she wanted herself. Every song that Natalie Cole sang in the beginning of her career, sounded just like something should have been aretha's.
@@floydfelder3580 I know that Aretha posessed the greatest voice in recording history and I flew a round trip of 6,000 miles (Twice) to see her perform - but this material was truly awful - repetitive in the extreme and without melody and all over the place with no direction. This is why nobody bought it - if it was as good as you say it would have sold. The completion was fierce and this mess wasn't cutting it.
Please stop trying to be so impressive with your speaking. I don't care if you flu 10,000 miles round trip. You speak as though you are ignorant of true vocal talent when you see it. I don't care how many albums it sold. Do you know how many albums she put out? Circumstantially, every album is just not going to be a top selling album when you put out as much music as she did. Also you obviously don't know 70s music, because this is what this is and this woman vocal is set apart from any other female artist even in this Presentation. Get some training before you come back in the big league.
The greatest singer of all time and it ain't close
🎯🎯🎯🎯💯💯💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow!! When Aretha's voice was shockingly acrobatic!!!💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Queen of soul for many reasons
THAT'S ARETHA!!!!!!
Aretha could do it without help from autotune. 🥰
perfect pitch, singing, piano playing musician she was!!!

Zzzzz @@waynedexter
If only she had stopped smoking this day. Her voice was at its peak! She sounded like a goddess in this era.
You can hear her voice being effected at this time. I can hear the heaviness. Her voice was lighter and airy and sweet

I agree 💯💃

Right there at 1:07....man, that's why I'm completely crazy about Aretha Franklin.
Nobody did it better than Aretha.
The Queen 👑
Aretha in the 70s was her prime era and Im loving this performance.
'Happy Birthday ' to the Queen of ❤. March 25, 2024. Rest in sweet heavenly Peace!
Aretha Franklin, Continue to hold the "TITLE" ( QUEEN OF SOUL)
six years after her death.. R.I.P.
Undisputed Queen
The Queen herself! Great performance! The dancers were outta sight, too!❤😅

Awesome performance!!!!!!!!!🥰

The voice is incredible!! Why wasn't she getting better songs/recording material??
Her longtime producer, Jerry Wexler, left the record label.
Times had changed and Aretha was very stubborn in what she wanted herself. Every song that Natalie Cole sang in the beginning of her career, sounded just like something should have been aretha's.
The Queen is dead. Long live The Queen.
When is her estate going to release the Sweet Passion Project!!
bobcat from soul train
What in the Bob Fosse…
This live version is better than the album version. The album version lacks soul and bite.
Her voice was at its peak! Too bad it was wasted in a 💩song!
Her worst material ever - truly awful.
