Well, you have GREAT TASTE!!! Better late than never! I had to play ":catch-up" too! Luckily, I caught up, and now own all her recordings! It's been a fantastic journey discovering the music and SOUL of THE QUEEN-MOTHER of SOUL!!! To me she is the absolute best, and I love many singers! Glad I've gotten to meet her! Her versatility, musicality, vocals, delivery of songs, are sheer heavenly, in my opinion!
DAMN SHE IS GOOD!!!! NOBODY CAN COMPETE!!! MAY GOD REST YOUR PRECIOUS SOUL ARETHA, THANK YOU FOR THE BEST MUSIC EVER AND FOR THE MEMORIES, IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY, AMEN!!!
You are right, how was it there weren't at least five blockbuster #1 hits off this incredible album with multiple Grammy Awards, people must have been in a coma...

"You" one of those OMG soulful magical musical moments never to be equaled, stunning collection sadly ignored upon release (not by this fan, had original LP) but clearly a timeless Aretha Franklin masterpiece now to be savored and enjoyed over and over, would be nice to have stunning classic released on CD in America, thankfully available here and on CD in limited supply as Estonia Import...RIP Lady Soul, love you forever
Listen to the clarity and vocal range. Only Whitney and Aretha had it. The 2 best female singers by far until they messed it up with smoking. However, they still reign the TOP 2 BEST OF ALL TIME.
For sure Aretha & Whitney two of the greatest ever...five overlooked Atlantic Lp's captured Aretha at her vocal peak. "You" is one of them and the others are amazing too, only on CD so far as Imports, got mine and cannot stop playing!!! ARETHA ROCKS
This has to be from the collection of my personal vinyl that I sold to Ameba Records in Los Angeles. If so, I'm glad I did so that others enjoy the experience of Aretha Franklin more ❤️!
I know her catalogue is extensive and there are gems I’ve yet to hear; however, “I’m Not Strong Enough” has to be one of her best and most heartbreaking ballads. The lyrics didn’t hit me in my teens (pre-love) but in my 40s.....man. This is a testimony.
She (though no more) is my Queen of music of all time, in Lagos Nigeria in those days me and my friends would go into the big record stores like the Kingsway, Leventis and others to listen and sometimes buy Aretha's records, this is talking of early seventies, may she RIP
I‘m soooo happy I finally found this album, Aretha is my favourite artist of all times🎼🎶❤️❤️❤️ love the pure Soul in here voice, she speaks to my heart ❤️❤️❤️ This is gonna be the soundtrack to Lockdown 2.0 in Austria 🙌🙌🙌🙌 and I‘ll be fine ... thank you Aretha🎼🎶❤️
A great album and deserved to be a much bigger seller back in ‘76 when released. No doubt the LP was named after “You" written by Jerry Butler, Marvin Yancy, and Randy Stewart. However 6 out of the remaining 9 tracks also have the word “You” in their title.
31:00 As much as people in 1975 been loving Ms Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin’s version of “You” should be Grammy worthy. I mean she is the Queen of Soul.
I would kill to get my hands on a CD or MP3 version of this album. It was the last album released on Atlantic and it absolutely bombed. However I played the hell out of it because of two particular songs, walk softly and the Shala Bandit. Both of these were covers of other people songs but I swear she never sounded so happy at her voice was just impeccable. Some of the albums had some rough points but overall I loved listening to it.
If you can just sit and casually listen to Mr. D.J. and not get on your feet and dance your ASS off ..... You've probably been dead for at least 6 months ❗❗❗❗❗
Watched the series Genius: ARETHA and had to check and see why this album was not a hit. I did not get it back in the day.. WOW! it is fantastic. And now it is out of print. Was it ever released on CD? THANKS FOR UPLOADING THIS GEM!
@@B4inSF To my understanding, the albums: "WITH EVERYTHING I FEEL IN ME," "YOU," "SWEET PASSION" and "LA DIVA" were never released on CD. Aretha owns the MASTER RECORDINGS, and Atlantic Records was not willing to pay her what she was seeking! Who knows, now that she's passed on, maybe her family(estate), will work out a deal???
People were into Natalie Cole at this time. Natalie couldn't touch Aretha's vocals but her style was in at this time. Plus Natalie was married to her song writer.,
@@cleopatrajones2024 Absolutely NO DIS to Natalie, but I was not one of those people! I knew with only one ear, that Natalie's voice and musicality was not in Aretha's league!!!
I actually like both Natalie Cole and Aretha Franklin tbh. They both sing amazing and have awesome performances. For example, I love Aretha’s performance of “Meadows of Springtime” from the Midnight Special in 1977. And I also love her performance of “More Than Just a Joy” in 1978. Now for Ms Natalie “Queen Diva” Cole. My favorite performance from her is “Lucy in The Sky with Diamonds” from her album ’Natalie..Live!’ and I love her performance of “I Can’t Say No/Something’s Got a Hold on Me”. The way she sings “Sometimes” and the audience just goes completely crazy
I think it was more people were a bit tired of Aretha at that time and Disco was the thing everywhere but Arethas best vocals and challenges are incased in her later 70's stuff
Her main producer and partner in music (Jerry Wexler) had actually left Atlantic Records by this time, and they didn't know what to do with her. Jerry's name is on the album, but he didn't produce it. He had been the real force behind her success and hit making when she switched to Atlantic in the late 60s.
This was not an unreleased album it just didn’t sell very well back in the day The first release “Mr D J”generated modest AirPlay it charted on the black charts. I’m sorry to sound like such a know-it-all but when it comes to miss Aretha’s music I think I do I’ve followed her all my life. In fact I defy anybody to put smtng out there of miss Franklin that IDK or don’t have a copy of!
@@stevenlewis2490 I don't think the album didn't sell because Wexler was or was not the producer. Wexler and Atlantic Records did play a MAJOR role in making her a SUPERSTAR, and you're right that Atlantic was somewhat not sure what to do with her during the mid and late 70s. However, after Wexler and Atlantic records made her a star, Aretha's name and talent alone, proved to the world her greatness! At that point, she didn't need Atlantic or Wexler. In my opinion, what she needed was a soulful or heart-felt, kick-ass ballad like 'You" or 'I'm Not Strong Enough To Love You Again,' to had been released, instead of the funky, but corny, 'Mr. DJ.' She also needed a record company that knew exactly what to do with her talent and be steadfastly committed to PROMOTING her work!
Yes, it really bombed on the charts. And it also marked the end of Aretha's association with Jerry Wexler. Apparently he was not happy with their last two albums together. I remember seeing the album for 99 cents in the window at Towers Records near 7th & 44th Street.
I'm a huge Aretha fan, so I thought! I'm discovering these hidden 70s jams and I'm just in love all over again..Soul music rules!
