I am totally amazed at how you can take some piat colors and make that vehicle look like a real weathered 1/2 track. I hope mine turns out as good as yours did. a real work of art.
Love the 4K.... and yes I do watch a lot of your videos on my 65" for all the great details !
That moment when Andy's "not very neat paint job" is better than anything you've ever created...
look at all those model kits!! Man I miss having a hobby shop with a larger modelling section :/
Dear Andy,
Thanks for sharing excellent modeling tips.
In video 2:00, you make a coat of hairspray. Is it feasible to use Tamiya LP22(lacquer-based) instead?
Thanks
Love your videos, im a 14 y/o beginner and you always inspire me. Amazing job
You came to the right channel.
vin is cool I'm the same age. What models do you make? I build tamiya tanks an a mix of revell and airfix aircraft
vin is cool me 2 but i'm 13 y/o
I'm 14 as well lol I'm making a 1:16 tiger atm
Craig Wilson ive been building the italeri Tiger 1 world of tanks model and built a few cars, an abrams, M24 chaffee, and an early production M4 Sherman
Good Modeling Tip, You do a GREAT JOB!!!
Andy, I like to watch your videos! I have a suggestion though:
Would it be possible to do in a tank model those anti-tank weaponry impacts? Meaning, like anti-tank round has hit the armor but not penetrating it. Or anti-tank round ricocheting off from the armor, leaving kind of a embedded streak in it. And so on?
I am not building models, but by watching your videos, I have been thinking that these ammunition impacts might be done with soldering iron, maybe?
Or maybe even a diorama with a disabled tank having those clear penetrations and insane scorch marks in the vehicle and on the ground around, in front of busted-up and wrecked building, shell holes in ground etc etc.
I hope you get the idea I am looking for here :)
Thanks for all of the very informative and entertaining videos. I have recently gotten back into modeling and using an airbrush. I'm not having good results. The paint ends up as a fine powder residue on all surfaces. I tried diluting with thinner as you suggested with Tamiya paints (2 Paint to 1 thinner) but get terrible results. Any suggestions? Tks
why in my Latvia no such shops?
(i bad speak english, I'm sorry if there are errors).
😭
latvia still be small country,my country-vietnam had one model shop and it is at the other side of the country
I have noticed that when 'chipping' it is always done in black. As far as I know, the Germans never used black as a top or a primer coat ???
This was a very helpful video for me. I am going to test my skills on some older models.
If I don't have any Tamiya TS80, is there another clear coat product that I can use?
I don't build models anymore, but I love watching this guy. Truly a master.
Andy, On the first model can you tell me what the point of the hairspray is ? You have the acrylic flat matte coat on top of the german grey paint to protect the german grey paint. So i dont get the point of the hairspray. Is the hairspray helping you remove the brown paint when you use the brush with water ?
Andy when are you going to start that su-76i which you promised you'd make a couple of months ago?
Nice video! Love this techniek of wheathering! The 4K works perfekt! Greetings Wesley!
Is this really on 4K?
*Switches to 4k*
Oh my God, i can see EVERYTHING!
Nice work, keep it up good man! I enjoy every Video from you!
Thank you! This came just in time for my new Afrika Korps Panzer 3. Perfect timing. 😁
So the secret of weathering effect is chipping for African desert vehicles
I didn't know about the hair spray trick.
I really enjoy watching your videos during building my StuG. Greetings from Poland!
Thanks for this nice video Andy
Great instructional video Andy. It was nice to see the comparison of the "chipping technique" on the Deutsches Afrika Korps "DAK" Opel truck and the M3 American Halftrack.
super tutorial and very helpful thanks a lot our master.I use your tips all the time and it makes me know and learn a lot. You are a great help to amateurs as well as the more advanced. Extend your help further. Greetings from Poland. I am now assembling a US M1A2 SEP MBT model from Trumpeter in 1:16 scale . I could really use some help with this episode.
For my models I use REAL rust. I put a roll of fine steel wool into a quart jar and cover it with vinegar. After about a month or two I pour the liquid into a stainless steel photo developer tray (mine are 10X14) and wait for it to completely dry. After it is all dried out I then take a single edged razor scraper and scrape all the rust out of the tray. It usually comes out as a fine powder. Some batches come out orange rust and if left a little longer I get a deep red rust. I then store my rust in little snuff containers. When I get ready to use it I mix it in a communion cup (great little mixing cups) with some alcohol, a little Elmer's glue and a dab of water soluble glycerin. I then paint it on my model with a small paint brush and finally top coat with dull coat acrylic. Really makes the model look like metal. Sometimes I will make a wash out of my rust and paint it all over the model to give the plastic a metallic look. Works great for me and looks realistic 'cause it's REAL rust.
in 4k but why only 360p again on my phone? Good video none the less.
youtube is slow today give it a few minutes and it will update to 4k
The vehicles we’re not that shipped
I had not seen this one before Andy!!!
Wow!!! Cool love these tips amd techs
Thank you Andy !!!
360p all the way.
Never changed to 4K...
Coing Back to modeling after more than 40 years without even touchons à boxes kit. Things sure have changer since the 70s. Love your videos and am amazed by your weathering techniques and airbrush. You are helping a retired serviceman enjoy his retirement. Keep up the good work sir. 👍
Eres un artesano! Fantástico trabajó, gracias por publicar tus vídeos. 👍😉
4k all the way
I had just finished weathering a german sdkfz 251half-track in a desert camo before this video came out using those same techniques from your previous videos :) Great Video Andy!
Great video as always Andy. Many thanks for sharing and enlightening us to this way of chipping and weathering a vehicle. I think I might just give this one a go and see how it works out. I do not have 4K, but the video quality was superb in 1080P.
Have a great weekend and have fun my friend,
Joe
Brilliant, well explained and perfectly filmed.Thank you. Will now review British armoured vehicle primers for an accurate base coat on my Humber Mk.2 then have a go at what you showed. Breath holding commence. . . Now!
Weathering in 4K 🥶
When you stipple the buff colour with water, is the buff colour fully dry/cured/hardened (ie a day or more), or is it within a few minutes of the buff going on?
Do you dull coat over the hair spray after you get the chipping? Thanks man
I really enjoy watching your video sir..inspire me a lot...Greetings from Indonesia!
Andy, do you use vallejo weathering effects, or just prefer MiG?
For ammo mig streaking products is recommended to let it dry with no white spirit/enamel thinner beneath it and then, blend it when we'll dry
And now I've got the old jingle from the tresemme commercials stuck in my head .. thanks /s
Nice video, Andy. I was not watching in 4k (I can, I just didn't have it hooked up) but it looked great in 1440 resolution. I use to model a lot in the 70's and 80's and your videos make me want to get into again.
Cheers
I have a question for you how long after you apply the top coat of pain on to the hair spray should you start to chipping?
I watch your videos for a long time and I hope you will make some Tamiya Sdkfz 251/1 armored vehicle pleas
Thanks
Can you do some how to's for realistic battle damage? Bullet holes, RPGS and full bore shelling would be fun! Love your work!!!
I don't build models yet but I find your builds and tutorials fascinating. I watch many of them and enjoy your enthusiasm and craftsmanship. Thanks, have a great day!
Great work like always. When you're going to get to battle damaged models, painting and weathering is all great, but try driving a combat vehicle in a war zone without damage, I'm missing that part
When you watch this and realize all the models you built before we’re just a waste of time.
I am going to start building models again, this time I will be using your methods of painting/ weathering and shading.
Thank you
Thanks Andy, another great video. The 4K quality definitely seemed to pop! Keep em coming.
what is mineral spirit? What is that called in Tamiya? Is it equivalent to thinner?
I really enjoy watching your videos. You explain things clearly without big words.
Another great tutorial.
Plasmo and Andy upload in one day? Thanks for making my Friday great!
once again Andy another great simple guide on how to. love your vids. keep up the work :)
Great, just finished a Panzer IV desert model, going to try these tips. THanks.
Is there any chance that you could do a tutorial on Vallejo streaking paints? I've been trying them via their tutorial but can't get them to work the best.
Thank you, finally know what the hairspray method is! Great videos, by the way.
Some good, basic techniques. Great tutorial!
Great video again Andy, looks fantastic.
Does Tamiya send you the paints as sponsorships or is that just with the model kits?
I was cipping a panzer iii l for DAK when this came on
The 4k looks no different than usual, a little sharper, maybe.
love the 4K . Great Technics and very informative.
2:05 - women's hairspray! ;-) Ha ha, no men's hairspray left at the store Andy? They're always running out! Just kidding - great tutorial.
I don't think Elmer's Spray Adhesive would work very well for weathering
4k is the way to go
Another great tutorial, thanks Andy :)
Would spraying hairspray and brush painting work the same way, or am I stuck with weathering by hand? Great video Andy.
It might if you put a light coat on then still seal it with lacquer
Andy's Hobby Headquarters Thanks for the reply Andy.
NICE with the 4K. Keep em comin Andy !!
what happens when some body comes in to your shop when you are filming?? do you have to stop filming??
yes I film between customers usually morning and aearly afternoon
It's 2K not 4K
Why do we only get 360p, Even though its recorded in 4k?
TEGC Tom it takes some time until the higher resolutions are uploaded. Try again in a few minutes.
youtube is slow today give it a few minutes and it will update
Yeah its all fine now
Andy's Hobby Headquarters this is verified awesome from everyone in canada. So cool
Yes I needed this! Thanks!
Is there any models that have battle damage? Or damaging techniques?
placid renegade from what I know you can do chipping using a really fine (thin) paint brush and/or deform the model by cutting it or using a lighter to bend the plastic, but don't my word for the second one. Also this lighter thing needs some experience and steady hands, so I would recommend having some assistance or avoiding this method completely. In the end though the best way is to experiment and do some good research, but keep in mind the ones I mentioned above and don't take really big risks...
your welcome....I guess? :)
the scout 4 I thought there may be some videos on UA-cam but havnt come across any as yet! Cheers.
placid renegade just keep searching...you'll bump to something; I'm sure 👍
absolutely good
4 K is the way to go Andy !!
awesome work!
Pretty good
4k was nice.
Nice!
What thinner did you use at 09:48? Tamiya x20-a ?
he does
odorless mineral spirits
Will the Tamiya x20 work too ?
Nice picture, but sound is awfull, thats humming is very distructing.
