I first saw the Spinners in 1974 at a concert in in Akron Ohio. I was a fan of theirs every since. By far, Phillip Wynne was & still is the greatest ad-libber I've ever seen in my life.

Behind all the greateness of this performance, the nasty Junie Morrison's synth bass and Rodney Skeet's bass guitar got buried in the mix. We need to have a petition for restoring the entire show to premium quality sound and visual. This was epic at so many levels I can't even begin to tell.
Wish there was a complete concert somewhere lingering in the shadows of UA-cam. I belive this entire show to be THE BOMB. Even the Beverly Theatre show isn't as good as this one.
Philippe Wynne left The Spinners for Parliament-Funkadelic due to a mix of creative and personal motivations. As the lead singer of The Spinners, he contributed to their string of hits in the 1970s but eventually grew frustrated with the limited creative control and the constraints of performing primarily smooth soul and R&B. Wynne sought greater artistic freedom and a chance to showcase his dynamic vocal and improvisational skills in a different musical setting. By joining Parliament-Funkadelic, led by George Clinton, Wynne entered a collective known for its experimental, boundary-pushing funk music and theatrical performances. This move allowed him to explore a more eclectic, freewheeling sound and engage with a band renowned for its groundbreaking creativity. Wynne’s contributions to Parliament-Funkadelic include standout performances such as on tracks like "Rumpofsteelskin," where his charismatic delivery and vocal improvisations added to the group's unique flair. Ultimately, his transition from The Spinners to Parliament-Funkadelic was a bid for more artistic independence and a chance to tap into a different, more improvisational and electric funk style than what his previous group had offered.
This concert was here in Houston, Texas @ The Summit. This is my favorite version. (Not Just Knee Deep Version) "I got ants in my pants and I need to dance". 😉
