Thank you for the video, got a 2015 1.4 6 speed. You helped me save a tremendous amount of time!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for this fantastic video. What I've learned so far is that I don't think I want a manual renegade anymore. Lol. I have heard several reports of early clutch failure and the teardown doesn't look like anything thrilling. For the most part, I like cars that run and just stay running. I'll go find an auto ;)
I mean if you baby it im sure they would last awhile, i definitely dont baby mine 😆 but at the same time i definitely wouldnt get another one. There are a ton of good things about the renegade but seems like the bads are expensive and a pain in the butt.
Thanks for the video. I have the 2wd Latitude that I bought new in 2018. I have the 1.4 6 speed manual transmission that has 109k miles and the tranny is starting to make noise so I either need a rebuild or replacement. Your video showed me that I'm going to pay someone else to do it. Thanks again.
Honestly you might have an easier time with the 2wd version. The ptu was a huge pain in the butt with my awd rene. Hopefully i can get rid of the thing before i need to do it again 😆
Just wanted to say you can remove the stud that goes through the block and starter when getting the trans back back in there then when it's basically in place you reinstall the stud. Saved me a ton of time
100% I ended up wiggling the motor just enough out of the way I finally got that stud passed. But I'll definitely be removing that stud if I need to pull the trans again lol. I also removed the stud at the top of the trans for the shift linkage aswell.
Thanks for the video but I would totally recommend my 2016 renegade 1.4l 6 speed it's about to turn 107,000 miles and it doesn't know what a mechanic is it's a total work horse I definitely don't treat it like a pavement princess but thx for the video in case I have to change mine good video
Thanks for your video. I tried to replace the clutch today for my Jeep renegade sport. I tried multiple times but no way to get the half axles out. I would like to know what special tool you used to take out the half shaft. Thank you!
A good ol flat head screw driver or pry bar! Pops right out every time.
Stoked to find this video! Where did you manage to hunt down a clutch set of you don’t mind me asking?
I got the cheapest clutch disk from rock auto! These clutches dont come with an alignment tool though so i printed mine but you can get universal alignment tools on amazon pretty cheap! If you can get the single mass fly wheel and toss the crappy dual mass flywheel it comes with!
I work at a transmission shop. Im doing a clutch in 2016 1.4 awd tomorrow. Direct hit says it pays 11.5 hours to do clutch. We got clutch kit and dual mass flywheel from the dealer. It took 2 months to get a clutch finally.
11.5 sounds about right. Good luck man! Hope you knock it out in 8!
@@EmxBrandon or less 😆
Man I think I'm in the same boat so this was a great video but I do have a question and hopefully you will be able to answer it or see this so I have a 2016 and it has the manual trans but do you experience any sort of vibration from the engine to where you definitely feel it and then when you take off and then say first second and third up to 3 Grand you feel a pretty good vibration ?
I mostly get hard vibration on cold start but nothing like what your experiencing. The easiest thing to check out would be motor mounts.
those axle snap clips are suuuper tight
For real man, i was like bro i just wrestled a 100+ pound transmission back in and this axle is whooping my ass 🤣
haha I had a similar experience with my coworkers honda. we gave it a clutch and a new driver axle and like everything went okay including wrestling an entire subframe. up until it was axle install time. I got it what I thought was all the way in and completed the job took it for a drive and it ran. made a u turn and got it up to like 10 mph and the fucker popped out. fortunately had enough speed to coast it back into the garage and went to town with a wood block and a huge mallet and got it all the way in past the snap clip
Great video thanks for posting it. Can I ask did you have any trouble getting it to fire up after? I've just completed the clutch on my 2018 renegade and it cranks over but wont fire. I believe I may have let the flywheel turn just a little as I started on the pressure plate and forgot to lock it in place first. Any advice?
It has to be something else, you can turn the fly wheel as much as you want and it wont do anything since it has nothing to do with the timing of the engine. You may want to check your clutch safety switch? Did you bleed the clutch already aswell? Mine started right up since i didnt unplug or mess with anything on the engine side.
I didn't mess with much on the engine side. I bled the clutch but maybe I need to try and bleed it again? This thing is seriously a pain. I'm about to have it towed to the dealer to have them plug it in. The motor turns over, starter engages it just won't fire up like there is no spark. Thanks for your reply.
Are you seeing the tach move at all when your turning it over? Seems like a sensor got unplugged or maybe broken in the process?
Update, vibration coming from engine at idle and otherwise is likely the dual mass flywheel, it wears along with clutch clutch, pressure plate
My rene with 50k clutch is gone. Brutal. Would a Dodge Dart 1.4t clutch kit work for a same engine Rene? Should i have the flywheel replaiced as well or typically should that be fine?
Damn thats a bummer. I honestly think the disk i got was meant for a dart and it works perfectly. You should be fine! Id probably change the fly wheel out aswell to a single mass flywheel. Mine sounds like shit from all the abuse ive thrown at it and now i gotta re pull the trans. Also be careful with the passenger side trans seal when putting it back together.
Since I'm assuming we all have manual transmission Renegades has anyone else noticed like when you're at idle a pretty good engine vibration and then like when you take off and first and second there's a pretty good like vibration that you feel go through the drivetrain and it almost feels like it is going through the drive shaft even and I went and replaced the motor mounts already so I just don't know if that's just normal for these to vibrate like that but I've owned many a manual transmission and never had this sort of feeling
Probably the flywheel. In process of replacing my mom's in her renegade.
That bumper actually comes off easier than you think. The center grill is riveted to the bumper but there is just like 6 or 8 push pins at the top of the grill that mount it above the radiator. Once you get those and take out about 6 screws at the fender wells and below the bumper (8:54) it pops right out. Those black clips at 19:39 you push with your thumb or a small flathead screwdriver after getting the tabs and screws out and it all falls off the front after a few tugs
Edit. This one is a latitude FWD. So the bumper might be slightly different. I had to unplug a few fog lights
Yeah mine has 5 rivets holding the bumper to the fenders on both sides, found out later than all the other models arent riveted. I was definitely not trying to deal with that 😆 but regardless that wouldnt have helped getting the transmission out.
@@EmxBrandon yeah I actually just dropped mine on the ground about 30 seconds ago. This one vibrates like crazy and has no running issues showing. Has new motor mounts so we figured the flywheel flung a weight or has one seized or something. Looking at it now, it is wiggling alot and I havent touched it or the clutch yet. Ive done a few clutches before but have never had one loose when removing it. Yours wasnt like that was it? Also, the only thing the bumper helped with was the crash bar bolts.
@Embarassmental yeah those crash bars were a bit of a pain to get at, but not too bad with the swivel head. And the renegades/fiats/darts all share the same motor and the flywheel is a dual mass flywheel (dmf) so its a 2 piece flywheel with springs inbetween them so when the cutch is engaged it softens the transition. Garbage design as you can see yours is all wiggly too lol they start getting sloppy and clanky which might be what your hearing. Unfortunately they are about 800 bucks to replace 🤦♂️ and even the single mass flywheel (regular flywheel) is 600 bucks.
Yeah it came apart internally. Comepletely destroyed the pilot bearing and ate through the center support on the flywheel. I got a lightweight flywheel and new clutch. Awesome video. Thanks for the help!
@Embarassmental no problem! If you remember, let me know how you like the new flywheel! I see people doing the single mass flywheel and clutch delay valve delete and it makes the renegade soo much better. Im just not sure if i wanna keep mine or not long enough to do that stuff
I'm looking at buying a Rene with a blown up 1.4l at 90k. This video will be helpful if I end up buying it since I'd be crazy not to replace the clutch at the same time. I just can't confirm if I can use a 500/Dart 1.4 turbo from an auto car. All of the salvage yards separate them by manual/auto and FWD/AWD but I suspect they're the same minus accessories bolted on.
I wish i could say for sure, but id imagine the donor motor should just slap right in and hook up to the blown rene engine harness 🤞 worst case im sure the long block is the same incase the auto has different sensors and what not for the intake/ect. If you end up doing it let me know how it goes!
@@EmxBrandon Thanks for the reply. I will let you know if I take the plunge. I'm just trying to decide how low of an offer to make. It has been for sale for a couple months, probably not worth very much.
No prob! How much are they asking if you dont mind?
@EmxBrandon they're asking $5,000. Since I'm seeing running examples starting at $6000 with a rebuilt title or $8250 with a clean title, I think their price is way too high.
@@EmxBrandon what do you think it would be worth?
Why would you replace the flywheel.??
Are the Renegades weak or made bad?
Generally it depends on the condition of the flywheels mating surface with the clutch, if its really beat up with scratches and you throw a new clutch in, it will wear it prematurely and youll be dropping the trans real quick again. In the renegades case it uses a dual mass flywheel which is a 2 piece flywheel with springs inbetween which is supposed to make for smooth engagement. But if you beat on it like i do those springs dont last causing alot of clanking and rattling.
Any one know where the position clutch sensor goes my renegade 2018 no start p0807
Should be up behind the clutch pedal. Ita just a little sensor that tells the jeep the clutch is pressed alowing it to start.
Thank you for this so much
No problem!
Been working on it all weekend. Still can’t get the trans in
Try proping the motor up at different angles, i think when i got mine back in i let it hang a little bit. So i just lowered the motor from where i had it propped up and put my jack back under. Also i removed the shifter post on top of the trans to get it out of the way. But the main issue is that damn stud sticking out of the mating surface of the trans. You almost need to put the transmission in sideways then twist it back right side up into position.
Great video thanks.
Appreciate that!
I do have questions I have the same vehicle you have I have vacume port behind my air intake with no hose that is connected to anything dealers nor anyone knows to what it connects. So I plugged it and I have a check engine light that shows large vacume. 🙃
thank youuu very much good sir
No problem!
Thanks for video
No problem!
Hell yeah babe ❤
😍😘
I have a 2015 1.4 manual with 168k. No clutch and brakes done fir the first time at 120k. Seruous inconsistencies with these
Agreed I see alot of horror stories and I also see alot of people with plenty if trouble free miles. My brake pads also wear inconsistently seems like one side of the pad wears wayyy faster than the other lol. Also had blinker socket issues (not the bulb) and my evap system is throwing a code. Otherwise it runs and drives fine.
Thanks bro
No prob!
My clutch lasted 140k km, but it's 2wd.
That's still not good lol these clutches should be lasting way longer
This means there’s more than one bad renegade clutch. Ours only has 7000 miles.
Yours is going put after 7k?!
