Just as an advisory to anyone who wants to visit Santa Fe. The area in and around Santa Fe ranges between 6500 and 8000 feet in elevation the air is much thiner than at sea level so just pace yourself while climbing and hiking
Thank you Michael! It's a beautiful state! We have 2 more episodes coming up from New Mexico, but a return trip is definitely needed. Still so much to see & do!
I grew up in New Mexico but have since moved to Washington state and then Pennsylvania. I've not found any food comparable to what I had growing up in New Mexico. So much love, expertise, history and knowledge goes into each dish. Anytime I go back, I have as much chile as possible and I even have it ordered and shipped to me a few times a year. Thanks for such a cool video and reminders of my childhood.
I moved to New Mexico 16 months ago. I love it! New Mexican food is my favorite in the world. Santa Fe has always been my favorite small town. So beautiful. It's a beautiful state with friendly people.
Me too. Left about 20 years ago, but make it back once in a while and never miss a visit to Blake's Lotaburger. There are also plenty of restaurants for a classic enchilada plate.
You really made me see how much more I need to get out and see what's right around as a Santa Fe resident! We have a tradition at my work that we try a different place every week to do happy hour and there are so many great options for dining!
Oh yay! We love hearing that, and what a fun thing to do with coworkers. That's a great way to try new places. You're right, there are so many amazing places to eat there! So glad you found us!
18:57 most scenic commute ever. I drove this road many times. Hwy 4 is probably easier on your vehicle, but if you go Hwy 502, it goes right up the side of the mesa.
Thank you for a beautiful video of New Mexico. The portion of Santa Fe tourism sites is the best I've seen! The OJO Spa looks phenomenal and that waffle breakfast "the bomb"!
Welcome to our beautiful state! 😊 I happen to be one of the thousands of employees at Los Alamos National Laboratory! Northern New Mexico is truly a beautiful place to live and work! Loved watching this video! It reminded me that I need to plan a trip to Bandelier with my kids now as the last time I was there was with my parents when I was young. Thank you for sharing and enjoy your stay in New Mexico! 💕
Hi Destiny! Oh how cool! We had no idea the lab employed so many people to this day. It was fascinating to learn about! The kids will LOVE Bandelier! It's the perfect park for little ones because I can just imagine how cool it would be as a kid to be able to climb into those little caves. Thank you so much for commenting, we're so glad you enjoyed our video! -Katelyn
Destiny I am like you, employed by LANL, there are almost 12,000 employees to be exact 🙂. Santa Fe is such a gorgeous, unique city. Downtown and the Railyard district are my two favorite areas. I don’t know if you got to attend the farmers market while you were here, I haven’t finished the video. It warms my heart that others can see the beauty and culture that we do. I love it here. I am not from Santa Fe originally, I am from the southern part of NM, but I have every intention of staying here the rest of my days! Thank you for visiting and showing the good this city and state has to offer 🙂❤️
There are always so many things I could comment on in your wonderful videos- I am going to concentrate on one: Jean Marie Auel and her books- The clan of the Cave Bear etc. I had to think of all those ( 6? in total I think) Whatever, I read them all. So when you clambered into that cave on that ladder I just kept being reminded of the stories. Top notch, the pools and the hamburgers. Also, I hadn't looked at the numbers but you've passed the 31k mark. Congratulations. Am so loving following you guys- to places I'll otherwise never see. Hope your week is going well. Hi Rhonda! Yes, Kakawa is amazing! Hopefully we gave you some ideas on new places to try! We loved Santa Fe, what a beautiful place to call home. So glad you enjoyed our video! Thanks for watching! -Katelyn
We went to Kakawa too! So good. We were there during Covid so some things were closed. We were a member of HH for at least 2 years before staying because we realized we weren’t prepared to dry camp. Finally we found Choteau Creek Brewery in SD and one in ? Nebraska maybe.. Diamond B Horse Motel both with electricity available.
Hello! I live in Los Alamos, so happy you highlighted our cool, secret city on the hill! I came up with the idea of turning the pull off bathroom at the entrance of town into a replica of the main gate guard shack, then made it happen! So fun right?!? Next time you come back film the main hill road coming up into town. It's truly breath-taking. Happy travels!
I know how the stair case was built. He laminated the center boards around a big pine tree and he used the steps to help bend the boards as levers. Trish, thanks so much and glad you're along for the journey! We loved our time in your beautiful state, and can't wait to explore more of New Mexico! 👍 -Howard
Just visited Santa fe this Christmas and I wish I saw these lists before. My husband and I anniversary, I would have loved to stayed at ojo!! I went to Buffalo thunder hilton which was still lovely! But the foods we were lost and this would have helped lol. Now I gonna keep these in mind for next time!
Thanks for sharing we felt like we were watching old home week. We lived in Santa Fe for 15 years and recently moved to Portugal so it was nice to reminisce, made us miss those chilis though. You have to remember that Santa Fe is at around 7500 ft. in elevation and Los Alamos is higher so being out of breath is easy if you are not used to it.
We loved our time in Santa Fe! So glad we could take you on a trip down memory lane! Oh, Portugal sounds wonderful too! Ah yes, it is much higher elevation!

Wow! I can’t believe we missed all this on our trip they Santa Fe!…that’s because we never made it TO Santa Fe! I-25 took us up TO it, but our campground turned out to be way out of town, and we had a family reunion to attend, so we had to push-on, completely missing one of my fav cities! 😢 Well, now that we’re able to, we will return soon for all the great adventures you once-again, took us on….HOWEVER, you will NOT get me to go up and down the cave dwelling ladders! Nope. No. Nada! And again, I blew any semblance of a diet I pretend to be on, just watching all the yummy goodies you found! Another, completely wonderful video Howard and Katelyn! Thanks again for your beautiful videography. 📹💻📷
To cold and snowy to ride my motorcycle up to Santa Fe tomorrow (2.17.2023) so I’m taking the Rail Runner up from Albuquerque for a solo lunch and back.
Woowww! Santa Fe looks amazing. What a wonderful place to visit! Anne would LOVE the chocolate store, for sure. 🤩😋 And the experience at the spa seem fabulous. Anne & Eric
Such a lovely video. Would love for you to come and visit our healing and horse riding center it's 5 minutes from the plaza I would love to meet you guys even if it just to give you a hug and you can meet our furry babies. Much love and light 🙏🐎🐎🐎
Welp....I wished we would have watched your video before we visited so we knew the spots to see.🤷🏻♀🤷🏼♂ Good job guys, your videos are so well done....we need to go back! 😊
We are going to visit Santa Fe and wondered where the camp spot was that you camped in? Love all the great info in this video as well as all your videos. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
There’s so much they didn’t capture and did highlight the typical tourist attractions. Theres trails that people casually walk by daily that have stones seats by the people for gathering. There’s smaller restaurants that have been around way longer. Where are the respects paid to the Mexican cultures? There’s an amazing story behind Meowulf and GRR Martin
Love New Mexico; and such an informative video!! (as always). Coincidently, I spent the night in T or C two weeks ago (3/20); I dry camped in Elephant Butte state park in my van (Revel), enjoyed a couple of nice beers at the T or C Brewery and ate the (best I’ve had) green Chile cheeseburger (take out) ordered from across the street at the Grapevine. I met some very nice people and T/C was an unexpected pleasure. Other fun stops on my 8 day trip were Silver City, NM, and Tombstone and Bisbee, AZ. Cheers from the Denver area:)
Entertaining and informative video, as always. What camera gear are you using? I went to your website - which looks amazing, by the way - but I couldn't find any info on gear. :)
Loved Santa Fe so we’re going back this time with our new class C. Please tell me about parking situations for Kakawa, Ojo, downtown restaurant. My husband is freaking out about the parking!
You definitely made up our minds about visiting Bandelier while we were out there! And yes, the food scene in Santa Fe is SOOO good! Definitely add Ojo Spa to your list next time, you'll love it!
I would have been in the peanut gallery watching you... lol. I did good at not leaving a comment during you holding the chickens... lol... this is the first video that I have seen that actually made New Mexico look awesome. We did not find those cool spots when we went through but we are going back this year so thanks for opening up some options.
😂😂😂🐔 Aww we're so glad that we were able to showcase NM in a positive light! There are definitely some hidden gems in the state. We have two more great videos coming so hopefully you can enjoy the nicer side of NM!
This was such a fun one. Thanks so much for sharing. 🎉 I think that I'm going to call all of my drinks 'elixirs' from now on. 🤣💞 That Hello Kitty ish mug was super cool. 💖 Loved the silkies. 🐔 💜 That waffle looked amazing! 😲😋 Best burgers - 'I'll be the judge of that!' 🤣 I didn't know axe throwing was a big thing but we have places in western NY that offer it as well. An actually physical book - how quaint. 🤣💜 I am so proud of Katelyn. I would've made it up the first ladder and Troy would've been filming the rest on his own. 👍 -Troy & Aimee
'Elixir' just sounds way fancier! Haha. Also a bit like a potion, which is fun lol All the food was incredible! And thank you!! I was so glad I did it once I was done 😅
The Mayan glyph for the chocolate joint means cocao. The fish is 'Ko', and the 2 dots over the fish mean to repeat the sound of the glyph. Hence 'KO' or fish repeated = KOKO, now cocoa.
Thank you for showing a kinder side of New Mexico. I got a speeding ticket driving my way through the state in 1978. The trooper pulled me over, I admitted I was speeding. He wouldn't just give me a ticket....nooo. nooooooo. We had to drive to the next town and I had to put cash in a envelope in a mailbox or he said I could spend the night in the towns "accommodations" until the judge got there. I swore the Land of Enchantment would never be on anymore of my travel destinations. 😂😂😂😂😂
Make sure you visit Tia Sophia’s - the best and truest New Mexico food you will find in the city. If you didn’t stop here you missed something special. Open every day for breakfast and lunch.
Wonderful update ! I'm with Katelyn - I'd want to bring all the puppies home with me. I was wondering what is the yellow pole that you have on your RV ladder ? How is it attached ?
Thanks Bonnie! Oh the puppies are so sweet! that pole was for our cellular booster antenna and was attached to the ladder with brackets, but we just got our starlink so the yellow pole is no more! 🙌

Welp....I wished we would have watched your video before we visited so we knew the spots to see.🤷🏻♀🤷🏼♂ Good job guys, your videos are so well done....we need to go back! 😊
Oh no!! I hate when that happens haha yes, definitely just means you need a return trip soon! Thanks so much!! ❤-Katelyn
We are going to visit Santa Fe and wondered where the camp spot was that you camped in? Love all the great info in this video as well as all your videos. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Great video! Thank you.
I’ve been to Santa Fe New Mexico before and I love it I might go again next year
Thank you for doing Santa fe justice! So many people just focus on the typical tourist destinations that they really don't highlight the real city!
Santa Fe is definitely on my wish list! Looks beautiful! Resort looks incredible! Have to go try that waffle!
The waffle is amazing! Chef really did a great job with all the flavors. Santa Fe is a gem. Hope you can visit one day!! :)
It is startlingly to see Scout running free. Glad her training now allows her this freedom and you, peace of mind.
Such a change!! She loves her freedom now and we love not having to worry about her running away anymore! 😅❤
This was a nice video 🙏🏿
How funny!! We must have just crossed paths! We also went to the brewery and I had that same burger from across the street. It was SO good!!!
@@NewstateNomads Ha! I won’t ask which beers you got:) … habanero sour and raspberry choc. porter for me👍Safe travels
Haha! I did a flight so I tried 6 of them 🙊🤣🍻
The stairs freaks me out I been there it’s well built solid wood ..
Whats the name of the restaurant at 23.30 in the video with the delish burger?
Hi! It's Sirphey's at Bandelier and it's located at the National Monument ☺️🍔 very delicious!
Entertaining and informative video, as always. What camera gear are you using? I went to your website - which looks amazing, by the way - but I couldn't find any info on gear. :)
Hey there! Thanks so much 🙌☺️ It's in our Amazon shop under filming and gear! www.amazon.com/shop/newstatenomads
Y’all too cute 😂 love it ending ❤
Loved Santa Fe so we’re going back this time with our new class C.
Please tell me about parking situations for Kakawa, Ojo, downtown restaurant. My husband is freaking out about the parking!
Wow....you two should enter the Amazing Race! You'd be winners for sure!
Haha!! I think Howard would be great at it! And I would be the weakest link 😂 but I'd be willing to try!
Kenny and I loved Santa Fe! The food was so good and Bandelier was awesome. That spa looked amazing. We will have to catch that next time.
You definitely made up our minds about visiting Bandelier while we were out there! And yes, the food scene in Santa Fe is SOOO good! Definitely add Ojo Spa to your list next time, you'll love it!
Beautiful bathing suit ❤ what brand are they?
I would have been in the peanut gallery watching you... lol. I did good at not leaving a comment during you holding the chickens... lol... this is the first video that I have seen that actually made New Mexico look awesome. We did not find those cool spots when we went through but we are going back this year so thanks for opening up some options.
😂😂😂🐔 Aww we're so glad that we were able to showcase NM in a positive light! There are definitely some hidden gems in the state. We have two more great videos coming so hopefully you can enjoy the nicer side of NM!
I was just wondering what you do with the dogs when you go to events and hotels?
I’m headed there for my bday in November
Wow, a great place to spend your birthday! Have a great time and let us know how your trip goes! 👍 -Howard
This was such a fun one. Thanks so much for sharing. 🎉
I think that I'm going to call all of my drinks 'elixirs' from now on. 🤣💞
That Hello Kitty ish mug was super cool. 💖
Loved the silkies. 🐔 💜
That waffle looked amazing! 😲😋
Best burgers - 'I'll be the judge of that!' 🤣
I didn't know axe throwing was a big thing but we have places in western NY that offer it as well.
An actually physical book - how quaint. 🤣💜
I am so proud of Katelyn. I would've made it up the first ladder and Troy would've been filming the rest on his own. 👍
-Troy & Aimee
'Elixir' just sounds way fancier! Haha. Also a bit like a potion, which is fun lol All the food was incredible! And thank you!! I was so glad I did it once I was done 😅
You got any glazed donuts?
Love that story! 😂
Ouch! Out of State license plates = revenue in every State. That would definitely have put a damper on any future plans to travel there.
Oh my goodness, what an ordeal! I can understand why you'd have a sour taste in your mouth after that. Haha
Welcome I’m from New Mexico live 30 mins away for Santa fe
Very cool video. Thanks. Travel safe.
Thanks, Bob!
Make sure you visit Tia Sophia’s - the best and truest New Mexico food you will find in the city. If you didn’t stop here you missed something special. Open every day for breakfast and lunch.
Waffles, whipped cream, and pecans speaks to the “heritage” of New Mexico??? All jokes aside, it looks like you had a lot of fun.
You two sure have had some fantastic adventures.
Thanks Dave!! ☺We definitely have!
Flying in from NY next week.
Any decent Tex-Mex restaurants in that town?
Ax throwing...How cool is that!
Like snow falling in desert/there but an hour then gone without a trace -- Kahil Ghabram (SP?)
Santa Fe seemed like it was awesome!
