      You will need to get a body shop hammer and a some blocks to repair the few dents on the body. Try it out without the body on it, it will be safer if you need to get out of it in a rush. Be safe, love your channel.

      How does he do that? Terms like -- "Fuel make-her-happener!"-- are so much a part of Derrick's vocabulary that he throws them in a sentence without pauses or missing a beat in his verbal presentation. It's a gift that is so second nature it makes him very entertaining to watch.

    Easiest way for a rough guess capacity in a ford, pull a spark plug and use a piece of wire down the hole to measure the stroke, 2.870= 221/260/289 (unless it has a 5 bolt bellhousing you can guarantee its a 289, only 65 and earlier ran the 5 bolt bellhousing and no 221/260's had the 6 bolt bellhousing) 3.00= 302, 3.5=351

    • @briannelson8373
      @briannelson8373 3 роки тому +6

      You can also quickly tell the difference between a 289/302 and a 351W by measuring the width of the intake. The 8.2" deck 289/302 is about 8" wide, while the taller 9.5" deck 351W will have a roughly 11" wide intake manifold. Also, on a 289/302, the pad for the distributor is almost level with the China rail, while it's about an inch down on a 351 because of the taller deck. Both have the thermostat housing in the intake manifold, which is an easy way to tell the difference between a Windsor and a 335-series Cleveland, which has it in the block.

There was nothing about snowmobiles and especially fast snowmobiles he did not know. That was not the only V8 powered dual track sled by a long shot, there were many that would run on Lake George for record runs. I never saw that one on the lake though. I also notice there are no studs in the tracks so I can be pretty sure it was still in development.

    Wow! What a trip down memory lane for me. My brothers raced Cats in the late 60's - early 70's. I remember when Cat brought out the custom "Boss Cat's" for attempts at speed records. They succeeded in setting a few records but the records didn't stand very long as technology allowed more traditional styled sleds with bigger/better snowmobile engines to break the "Boss Cat's" speed records. If I remember correctly a 800 cc Hirth powered King Cat was almost as fast directly from the factory. Great video.

    Hey Derek, the actual term is "Pin the ears down". Ever drive a Model T with the original drive train. The 'ears' were the throttle (right side lever) and the spark advance (left side levet). These levers were on each side of the steering column.
    I figure you have driven a T but thought I might confuse others on the Model T controls.

    Look on the Block below the exhaust manifold. That's a favorite spot for the casting numbers. ALSO the numbers aren't always in the same place because they used so many different foundries for their blocks. They didn't have dedicated foundries for each block until the early 70's.
