The head-on view of you sitting in that machine with the headers breathing fire should be considered in a future intro.
Thinking t-shirt,....
That’s what I was thinking they can let people sit there and take pictures people might pay for that, maybe even put spark plugs in the exhaust get some flames shooting
I'd pay 10 bucks to sit in and fire it up
Killer poster for garage wall
😂 just saw your comment as I posted mine! Classic!
Over here in the old UK a guy has started talking like a guy does over in the US of A and nobody here understands him anymore, so that's productive. So I'll do the right thing and keep right on doing the same. Thanks Derek. Awesome channel.
Hahaha, that's awesome.
So cool… 🤣🔥🔥🔥🌪⚡️
Same mate .I realised all the shows I'm subscribed to are American this being the best. With matts off road recovery a close second.
A feller up in canadia started doing the same thing, and you wouldn’t believe it, nothing changed here lol
@@birchoutdoorsandbushcraft7690 yeah I assumed he was Canadian at first
I'm italian and whenever you say "italian tune up" you make me the proudest italian ever
“I-tal-ion” 😆
Bieri should be an Italian last name! Wonder where his lineage comes from.
@@DScaglione. yeah I thought about that too, I looked it up and it seems to be french or from the flandres. Who knows maybe he has some italian ancestors
Same lol
You Italians have an incredible racing heritage. You should be proud!
You should because it freakin worked! lol
I just love Chris, like when Derek says something, Chris can reply with just a look and you know what it means.
That view looking back at driver seat when you were getting ready to drive with the exhaust over each shoulder was pretty epic
I enjoyed seeing the flames shoot out of those zoomies!
I could tell that Chris was really excited.
Chris: 🙄
It's pretty cool that you're helping the man's legacy live on through his one-of-a-kind project.
That’s basically what this channel is all about! It’s awesome!
@@CamelGarage I agree! I find myself quoting Derek all the dang time now and I wear my VGG gear proudly!
Damn I really wanted to see it move
Dream job
Agreed. Such a thoughtful feller. Definitely appreciates history. 👍
Dangit! I really wanna see that thing fly thru the snow like it's meant to. It just needs to be done!
I gotta say... that camera shot with you in the seat and the pipes blazing away over your shoulders is mighty badass.
Ya, that was a highlight for a guy over here for sure!
I consider your efforts to be a success. Clearly, you are one of the best mechanics to have tackled this unique machine.
Watching the flames come out of Cylinder number 2 was a great moment, she lives indeed.
Sure as hell made me a believer out of Berryman B12. Just ordered me some cans from Amazon hoping to fix loud ticking injector in my Ford 351. As soon as I seen the flame come out i was like yea that must be good s$&t.
@@JRHINE83 indeed, Derek is absolutely correct, have a 95 ford f250 with that 351, 394 thousand miles on its original fire pumpers... She gets a can of that sprayed down her throat every couple months, still runs like a top with none of the typical injector noise.
@@PhillipB78 Thanks for the heads up! I have 95 F150 with the 351 and she's got one injector that just ticks away. I can feel it on fuel rail. I've tried seafoam and nothing. Gonna jam the tank full of Berryman and see what happens. Truck is near mint but even going through a drive-through or something you can hear the tick echoing.
This was going to my comment. Was looking for that flame.
@@JRHINE83 wish that would heal a 387k miles 7.3l injector but I am doubtful haha.
Bummer. I really wanted to see a guy give ‘er the onions. Very cool to see such a beast.
He gave her a whole bag of onions...did you not see flames come out of the zoomies???
@@troycurrie7784 Them zoomies where sittin' still...
That's just kinda wrong...
Mixed emotions, I really wanted to see you get this sucker rippin but at least you are giving it back to the family. Good on ya !
It breaks my heart that those gears prevented it from running wild... when creative ingenuity and flat out ballsy design gets built out with such love and devotion it's a crying shame to not see it live in it's prime again.
You could tell it came around when the flames come shooting out the number 2. Awesome machine much respect.
"Right down the yap" buahaha 😂
Wow, that right there is basically proof that B12 works live action style. You cound literally SEE when that cylinder started to come back. Great job!
That was nifty
Freed them valves
B12 is perfect for old engines ... newer ones not so sure
"...modulate the throttle to wide open consistently..." pure poetry!
This video ranks with the best you've done, a lot of fun! I keep on marvelling at how you bring those old engines back to life. That 289 sounds amazing.
What a gorgeous machine. Would love to see it ripping through the snow!
watching you flush the coolant system with an air hose reminded me of the time I got the trots in Bangkok.
I was yelling NOOOOOO! at my computer screen when Derek said they had to shuter down! I so wanted to see that thing go down the driveway!
Please dont give up on her yet, we gotta see the old girl scootin around on its own power. Just been a tease up to this point ;)
Ikr....That's about the gist of what I was fixin'' to post. STOP teasin'/testin' the audience & GIT 'ER DONE, lol!
ya you gotta fix it, at least 1 drive!!! gotta see it haul............___-->
thanks for the inspiration your awesome. i just bought my first project truck. its a 1971 w200 power wagon. picked it up yesterday for $260. probly in over my head but i will give it my best shot.
I think you’ll git er done. Especial if you’re wearing a VGG hat 👍🏽
A guy can love Derek for being who he is and getting me over a rough time I am having after some nasty surgery.
Thank you for what you do, VGG. Mike.
I appreciate the fact that you recognize hot rod history, in all its forms, and respect it so much.
You are the kind of guy that I could spend an hour or two just showing ya the neat stuff in my shop, the things I've collected over a lifetime, and you would appreciate all of it.
"our" history is way too important to let rot away, and this machine is history.
My grandfather was a Texaco dealer for many years, I have his "Authorized Texaco Franchise" certificate framed, hanging on the wall in my shop. It is dated 1933. Also have a bunch of gas rationing stamps from WWII.
I got a feeling we could burn through some wobble pops out there one day.
I'll be dipped!! That's a bummer, oh well like you said at least you got it running. Thanks for sharing the story behind how it came to be .Try to stay safe Sir!
11:27-11:34 That's a ringtone right there.
Music of the elders
You gotta put the cogs back in it and run it OMG can't quit on it.
Ahhhhhhhh, that 289 is music to my ears. had one bored .40 over with roller, heavy harmonic balancer, 650 cfm holley splitfire plugs and the kitchen sink. Best little motor ever. It was in my 1966 fastback mustang. Long tube headers to silencer mufflers. Definitely a sleeper. Worst thing about that engine was the fuel pump. Always needing a newer diaphragm. It required more fuel than that lil pump could give. Taking me back a few years. Thank you.
-You are a good man, for doing what's right with that rig. No losing, no winning, just doing whats right. Thanks!
I hope there is somebody who has this spare parts and when this somebody sees these video he wants that beast to actually work and just contacts you and sends them :D
Installing the drive cogs is the hard part, unfortunately. He would have to pull the whole track apart and shit which would take days
brutal amount of work, the track system is full of magivered unknowns and would be a thing that could make a guy pull every hair out of his head right quick
Would be easier to find 2 newer track and just swap these old piece of shit
Hopefully someone in the know takes the time to fix the cogs and we get to see it run one day.
That would be awesome!!!
If theres a drawing/blueprint for it, there are people who can 3D print them out of Polyamide or Polycarbonate filament. That would be incredible.
@@GRIMRPR6942 It's not impossible for sure. Just unfortunate that it is a time consuming job and the cost....oh, the cost. This repair is something that needs NO middle man. I personally would start from scratch back there and rebuild it my own way...old tech, new spec.
I really like when your brother joins you. He's a great addition to your channel.
He's as sharp as whip to like music runs in some families mechanism must run in their's
Derek, Hang on a minute here. You are a fellow MinneSNOWtan.. You cant give up on this one even if you give it back to the builders family. It HAS to be gotten to where it can be taken for at least a short run by you. It AND you both deserve that honor and respect and as a tribute to its creator it Must be done. That is the MinneSNOWta way... always has been and always will be.
I almost shed tears because of the fact that you didn't get to ride around on it but you taught myself and a lot of others that ideas. motivation and creativity can make great things happen. Thank you so much for sharing that awesome snow dragster with all of us.
The Italian tune up certainly kicked number 2 into life
I was wondering if it ever came around
I got pretty excited when I saw it shooting fire. Knew everything was up and running purdy
That was a great tribute Derek! Kind of a bittersweet deal, at least the engine and the memories will live on
That's one of the things I admire about you, the need to make sure that history is preserved, told and passed along, not only to your family, but to everyone. This is one thing nobody should pretend they didn't see. A lot of people will be amazed when they h👀k their p👀pers onto that big old sled.
Thanks for the kind words
When I saw that flame fly out of header number 2👌🏼 Italian tune up at its finest
A guy can’t just leave us hanging like that.
Hell yeah Derek! She’s Americana on tracks!! Love the vidyas and can’t wait to see what a fellers got goin on next!!
That thing is SO America, makes me wanna salute, it's awesome, fer sure!!!
Seeing that I'm not to far away from Thomas Sno Sports, it seems a road trip may be in order to hook my peepers on it!
I’m close to that
I remember the 1st video i watched aboit two years ago on this channel, i think we were at 215k subs. It's amazing how fast this channel has blown up in that short time! Congrats Derek!
Thank you
Those V8 from the 60's were special, 289 wow sounds amazing 👏
Cool how cylinder started firing after the tune up.
If the Italian tune up is good then would a Japtalian tune up be even better?
@@JD-iu3viYes but an axis-powers GermoJapTalian tune would probably be the best
Subs going through the roof , awesome channel 👍❤
Thank you so much 👍
Darn I was really hoping to see that in action. V8 power and two tracks just wow. Would be awesome to see it moving in the future but also cool that it just runs. 😁
My late friend Jeff Kohnke (RIP) had this motor in a '66 Bronco and it was a ripper, I can only imagine how good that thing sounds. To put that in something that weighs I'm guessing around a half a ton on the snow with 1970's snowmachine suspension with those zoomies must be a wild ride. I hope you guys get'er moving by next winter!
What an amazing creation!
Thank you so much for giving it some love and time! And sharing it with us!
this man is like the best youtuber ever
Thank you 🙏
20:39 I don’t care what hombre or feller a guy is , that sounds amazing. Hello from south Texas.
it reminded me of the episode of Eddie Munster and Herman when they were tuneing up the coach with the Flames coming out of the pipes.
Dereck and Chris - Almost the Penn and Teller of mechanical fellers.
For the T-stat: The spring is just to hold it shut. That brass cylinder in the middle has wax in it and when the wax melts, it expands and that opens the thermostat.
When I got my house, the master bath shower valve had the same type of doodad in it - super nice, until I broke the shower pan. Been six years and still haven't finished tiling it...
Good job saving a one of a kind! I am sure he could hear that monster singing!
This is a wonderful story and some truly inspirational flame throwing exhaust tubes. I say: keep going-- the thunder needs to be brought!
I now know I’ve been watching you too long when I told my boss that the “dustcotaler was full and needs a sssssttt, and and bleep bloop”. It was an awkward moment but really funny in my head.
I've found myself at work and home for weeks now saying "just help me to understand".
@@Swoldemort500 I say that and "I'll be dipped!"
@@SYBEX21 same!
I sent an email to a colleague a few weeks ago, and asked him what he thought of a situation at work. I told him to bleep bloop any interesting thoughts... The funny thing was, he replied with... Ah, well I'll be dipped... Another vgg fan among us... Turns out, of the nine of us who work closely, seven know what Vice grip garage is, and five are members, that's on my to do list very soon!
@@PhillipB78 sounds like the kinda place a guy would want to work
I love your problem solving process.
Like checking the temp of each cylinder by holding each exhaust pipe.
I LOVE the sound of the old V8 running with 8 pipes.
Even if she don't move, it's just screamin' BAD ASS!!! What a glorious sound! Great job Derek!!!
I like how Chris casually just moseyed off the screen at the beginning of the video. He's the king of silent comedy. He's the reincarnation of Charlie Chaplin.
Zippo marks
"He's the reincarnation of Charlie Chaplin" So your saying he's not funny?
@@anonymouscoward7559 ...Chris is the RECLINER KING.
The picture of you with eight flaming zoomeys behind your head should have been the thumbnail
"We confirmed the tracks are gonna explode immediately, so that's good!" 😜😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That thing sounded good. Even better with ear buds in. Was really hoping to see that thing fly, but you did it a good service cleaning up the gunk and fixing the fireing issue. You got another like out of me sir!
I'm not a motorhead but your videos are very good. I'm picking knowledge up and chuckling at your terminology.
So close, I was really looking forward to see that beast ripping up the lawn.
You did Mr. Carmen a solid Derek! We know he heard her singin!' Awesome content!
Perfect time to refresh youtube, let's see this thing rip.
My I can't stop watching your video s going on a week straight nothing but vice grip garage get home from work click on your channel .love the old cars sleds trucks tractors .minty ...
Derek.. may I suggest "rubber bottle stoppers" to plug holes in engine water ports. Drill a hole big enough to fit compressor fitting in the stopper and you should have no leaks. I even built one with a garden hose fitting. Super cheap... Works awesome!
"A hard left at 107" LOL, where do you come up with this stuff - hilarious.
Damn was so looking forward to seeing you rip this thing
I was rolling at the “shoulda done the ole fit test earlier in the process” predicament.
Jessica would fit in that seat.
I was crushed when the track thingamabobber crapped out..but I loved the video..never saw a machine like that..good thing to museum the piece..💪💪
It's great, being able to check on cylinder performance, by putting your hands over those zoomies. No EGRs cadillac converter, detoxing mallarky.... just perfect.
Takes "Bring the Thunder" to a new level.
The person who clicked the thumbs down doesn't know what they're doing with their life. A guys videos are always amazing! 🙌🏻
👍
Dang it! I was hoping to see it go down the snow covered road
Rev her til ya float the valves! Love it!
A guy has to see her run in the snow now though!! Keep going you've almost got her there!
Good video that is quite a snow machine I think Carmen will be smiling down at the good job you guys. have done getting it running thanks and take care
Dang it... a guy was really hoping to see you drive it.
That was disappointing that you couldn't go for a blast on it.
Jeff Goldblum comes to mind when I see this thing, "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Yeah...I wouldnt drive it myself. But I will dang sure watch the feller that does 😜
@@firebythewater4477 I'm small enough to fit into it.

Been enjoying your content recently. Your problem solving skills are really interesting. I don't know jack about automobiles and engines and its impressive seeing how much knowledge you have at your disposal. Your kids are very fortunate to have a father who teaches them these skills.
This is by far my favorite italian tune-up. Just rev-heaven 👌🏻
Was looking forward to seeing the terror on your face opening that critter up....
Excited to see the cold snack engineering moving under its own power😍😍
WE NEED A KRANG CAM! I wanna see Krang’s expressions like Jim from The Office staring straight into the camera 🎥
Wow at how plugged the water pump and the block is wow nice catch on camera Derek @ViceGripGarage
Good times, Ridin since 67 had a new Evinrude, like the one in the shop! sweet..seen a few V8s come around here in the 70s,here in central oregon. Get it on the Snow.
11:30 a Canadian mouth breather is yelling fuxx yeah mintttt! Right in the danger zone. Straight in the ketchup
God I love me some zip ties
Well done getting it running :)
Surely there must be some snowmobile UA-cam channels that would take on the track work or replace with new or used snow mobile tracks?. Anybody out there help a guy out? :)
Just needs ne cog drive prob get some at tractor supply they got the way back then prob of a old hay conveyor
You can update to newer style drivers. Go on vintage sleds dot com
Thumbed-Up ... hitting play “Right now!”
Gotta love simple machines! The old 'let her rip and blow her out' trick works great!
Derek: you looked, and sounded, helluva disappointed at the end there and your bruvver's sudden out-pouring of emotion certainly made his feelings clear. Reading the comments, it's not just you two who want to see this beastie scoot round a field or two.
It's certainly your decision but I/we/you know that you two could fix this monster and, having got her running like she is, it seems a real shame not to fix on the ol' gal.😢
No! you need to fix it! that thing is awesome!
My heart broke when I saw the pieces of those drive clogs. I wanted to see it drive so bad. Just bad luck.
The zoomies really make a fella feel like he's a top fuel crew chief
Ah man. Awesome video Derek!! I wasn’t surprised those plastic gears turned to dust though. Be super cool if someone with the time and money ripped this thing completely apart and brought her back to “new”. What a cool piece of history.
