Been messing with supercharged and turbo 3800s for years. I tell folks all the time that the engine is actually bulletproof if you do these things before any other mods. Get a ZZperformance basic tune and 2.5 down pipe. Next get front power log. You can buy headers later if you plan on going over 300whp. Turbo guys just need the front log can’t use the headers. Next, GET AN INTERCOOLER! This should actually have came stock on these. If an intercooler is immediately done I can guarantee your engine will last unless you do dumb shit like run it without oil or coolant. Do those things first and you can mod away. Everyone wants to drop pulleys so bad when Zoom has the record on like. 3.4 pulley or something like that so just going to the smallest pulley isn’t gonna get you the fastest gtp. The engine has to make up for that little pulley. Build the motor up and worry about the pulley last.

I've always been told that 1* of KR is too much. I've done supporting mods on my GTP. ZZP tune, u-bend delete, CAI, 104 plugs, 180 T stat, front plog, magnaflow catback exhaust and a throttle body spacer. Right now I am still seeing the occasional blip of 0.8* KR when accelerating WOT.
I've been considering a 3.6 pulley, but I don't really want to see my KR go up.

Hey. Just subscribed. Really enjoy your channel. Had a question. Getting a vibrating from my drivers side wheel when making right turns when accelerating. Also a slight clicking noise from drivers side when turning. I bought. 2 cv axles and decided I’m going to replace them even though mine have no tears or rips. My car is a 2000 Grand Prix Gt and had it since it was new. Also have every receipt from everything ever done. I recently put over 13,000 dollars into this car over the last three years because it’s such a great car. My rack is new, tie rods, ball joints, idler arms, everything. Rotated tires, and had car aligned and tires rebalanced. Driving me nuts with this vibration. Do u think the cv axle is the issue. Just driver side tire vibrating when turning right and accelerating. By the way, the same subframe bolt fell out of my car. And that’s a pretty long bolt.

That was the end of the line for my 1998 GTP at 225,000 miles 😭
I would have kept it forever if the rust cancer didn't kill it. With the exception of the shitty brakes and headlights, it was the best car I've ever owned. Replaced it with a 2008 G8 GT, and I liked the Grand Prix better...

I had a 2003 Impala LS. Lots of shit broke at the same time and I couldn’t afford to fix it so I got rid of it.
Don’t like the new car I got so after a few more paychecks I’m buying another Impala and letting my sister drive the new car

Mine is a 2005 gtp. First and foremost ABS system. Traction control system, wheel sensors and axel. Do a little research and you will find out really quick

Junk...pure junk, if you had to make 2 videos on what to know clearly indicates these cars are garbage. I also had a 2000 GTP that I owned from new and was properly maintained and not abused and it was the biggest hunk of junk I've ever owned. Series 2 and Series 3 engines were total garbage and the lowest quality ever produced by GM

Many 3800 series ii engines have made it way over 300,000mi and still run great. The highest mileage one that I’ve seen had about 480,000 on it and never rebuilt. I wouldn’t be scared to say some have probably went 500,000 plus. It’s not the engine that is garbage, it’s some of the owners who treat them like garbage. Keep it serviced, tuned, keep it from overheating and it will keep you riding. Keep oil and coolant leaks fixed because they do happen with these.

@@jeremytart639 I have an 07 Pontiac GT supercharger with just over 130,000 miles on it. I would agree the 3.8 Engine is pretty durable. The rest of the car after about 75,000 miles an owner of these cars will do more than just maintenance they'll be fixing some things. I've had Transmission rebuilt in 2015 with barley 80,000 , about four water pumps, a couple of tensioner assemblies, crank shaft seal, Oxygen sensors, CV axle, seems like always something. The only check engine light I have ever had though is a P0171 System Lean Bank 1. All in all Grand Prix or W bodies in general require frequent maintenance and it really helps if you can find competent mechanics to service these cars.
