  • Episode 71 and we talk to CJ about his time in and out of The Wildhearts, UK's version of Guns 'N' Roses!, his short lived but critically aclaimed band Honeycrack as well what he's currently up to. The Wildhearts were renowned for their partying and general Rock 'N' Roll debauchery, this ones not to be missed!
Welcome to The Stupid And Contagious podcast, a podcast focused on bringing you interviews with the bands that defined a generation!
That generation grew up in the 90s with the Grebo bands (Senseless Things, PWEI, Neds Atomic Dustbin, Mega City Four, The Wonderstuff and many more) on the UK side of the pond and quickly joined by the grunge bands (Nirvana, Mudhoney, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and many more) on the US side of the pond.
We are not limiting ourselves to these genres though, we will chart the guitar bands from all genres throughout the decade that was the 1990s.
If you are into 1990s guitar music or just a music lover in general then this is the podcast for you!

Wildhearts with love/hate was incredible at Norwich UEA. Plus Oval rockhouse, and honeycrack at Norwich art centre.

Saw them in 94 with Kerbdog supporting the Almighty in Wolverhampton. My first gig at 14. The Wildhearts are so under appreciated. Incredible band. You know you've got to get Ginger on next boys!

Mine too, it's a classic 'no filler' album, great from start to finish. I know CJ said he likes the early 00's Scott Sorry period, which was great too, but for me they never bettered Earth Vs.

It's bizarre that for a band of the current stature of The Wildhearts that the T-shirt for the record is still getting printed under license, never mind the actual CD.

You know why CJ still looks cool? ... because he IS cool, always has been always will be. The Wildhearts were always the coolest when CJ was in them too. They were always missing something without him.

Saw the Wildhearts open for Alice in Chains at Nottingham Rock City in 93. I loved the Wildhearts but was gutted because they replaced the Screaming Trees who couldn't make the first show of the tour but opened for the remainder. The Wildhearts were everywhere at that point, their own shows, festivals etc, so saw them loads....Screaming Trees not so much.

Same tour we saw them on at Brixton Academy, Screaming Trees would have been amazing! 🤘🏻

I love The Wildhearts. There's a lot to be said about happy sounding songs about really miserable things.

The G n R thing is probably more about attitude than the punk/hard rock crossover greatness of their sound... no other British band could ckaim to be as '4 real' bar the manics in those early days

They definitely captured the attitude and balls out rock n roll that GnR brought to the table 🤘🏻
