On the subject of buckfast, I loved listening to the local jakies as who had the lowest number stamped on the bottom of the bottle, as they belived the lower the number the better the buckie, hilarious, the number was the bottle mould number we used when making the bottle
A great podcast once again and a very interesting outlook from Mark and managing the finances and a stark reminder that second hand equipment can do as good a job as new equipment.
Iona, just to let you know, I also studied Latin in an all girls private Convent school in Montreal “back in the day”. Only difference was that we had Latin for FOUR YEARS. I can still remember Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative and Ablative ! Cammy, we never learned how to speak that dead language per se but it did have a gigantic impact on the development of my day-to-day English vocabulary. It also taught us invaluable skills of analysis that easily transferred to other contexts.
Dumfries and Galloway corresponds to the historic shires of Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, and Wigtownshire, the last two of which are collectively known as Galloway. The three counties were combined in 1975 to form a single region, with four districts within it.
Question. Here in the US spreading human waste has been found to contain PFAS or forever chemicals. A lot of land here in Maine USA has been banned for agriculture due to past spreading of same sludge.
I had to go and ask google: The surname Bowran is an English habitational name that originated in Boldron, County Durham, formerly part of North Yorkshire. The name comes from the Old Norse words boli, meaning "bull", and rúm, meaning "clearing". The distinguished surname Bowran emerged among the industrious people of Flanders, which was an important trading partner and political ally of Britain during the Middle Ages. As a result of the frequent commercial intercourse between the Flemish and English nations, many Flemish migrants settled in Britain.
Another interesting guest on the podcast, the kids near us used to drink white lightning and mad dog 20/20 mix. Right what they say alcohol would never pass the health and safety checks. Can't get over how people spend so much money on kit for so little return when you think of how much the driver can earn for no outlay and a months paid holiday.
Fab podcast as usual. No matter how down in the dumps I feel you and Iona always put a smile on my face. Looking forward to Fridays podcast. 👍
