Yeah, it seems that the self-employed tend to find life harder when dealing with financial institutions and insurers.
Why not set yourself up an LLC and simply hire yourself as an employee of that company. This would change your status to employee rather than self-employed and that could help immensely.

An option, but not cheap and you need a board to do it, thus people you can trust, you could easily get screwed over and lose it all. (Not sure about how that is in the us, im not in the us)

@@rochendlywouters9113 you absolutely do NOT need a board for an LLC.
An LLC is VERY easy. If you use it at a VERY VERY basic level, all you’re doing is paying the state (or service) to form the LLC, then you delegate the responsibilities to yourself, and then you can effectively “invest” assets into the business. Practically, that’s just “declaring” that X or Y money or object is now owned by the LLC. And the taxes are passed through. You only pay them if you take money out to “pay yourself”. Other than that, it’s as simple as equipping a shield in a video game. And usually under $100 too. Also, all that stuff you invested into the company? First off, it’s tax deductible. Also, if the business spends more than it makes, EVEN IF only by a technicality because you’re moving assets between yourself and the LLC, then that means that the LLC *TECHNICALLY* was in the red. It LOST financial value. That means no taxes, and it’s ALL tax deductible from YOU (as in you personally. Since your money got “lost” to the now “unprofitable” LLC).
Also, I’m not sure that an owner of an LLC is allowed to “employ themselves”. In fact, I think that you CANNOT do that. If you want paid, you take a disbursement. NOT a paycheck. Not the same thing AT ALL.

For insurance purposes this really wouldn't benefit him. Insurance companies have small group and large group policies for employers. Generally you don't see the kinds of group discounts until ar least 30, sometimes 60 or even 200 people in the group depending on the carrier.
My mother was self employed for over 30 years and always carried health insurance. It got very expensive to keep but it was that or pay out of pocket for everything. She had a corporation for her business but was still the sole employee and therefore the only person in the "group."

As a father of 6 myself, and knowing how much I love them, and how lucky I am that they are so healthy... And hearing this story, is absolutely heartbreaking. I'm so sorry Brett. God bless your little boy, I pray he gets thru this all.

I hope my praying for your family helps. And I encourage everybody to pray. Even from the scientific way of looking reality, consciousness can manifest changes, so you don't have to be religious for praying.

Get a job at a company, get good insurance, and then do UA-cam part-time. Even now, the cost of hardware is so much -- that no one is building systems. Since you are making a life change, go into the "Cave" and think about the "Next Step". Relax, take time to do that, and let stuff like this go. You can always come back. Get on good insurance, then a lot of your problems will go away. And, you won't have to keep looking like "A Begger" (because I've been that and know how it feels). You could get great pay at a job managing people. Take the "Safer Route". That's what I'd do. I've had to make that decision before ... between self-employed and W2-employment. And, it's not that bad of a trade-off. Also, people on YT can get tired of people always asking for money, which I guess this is what the video will eventually get to. None of us are responsible for your situation. That is your "Cross to Bear" ... not ours. So accept it, do what you need to do, and get a monetary situation (since you have an unexpected situation -- like your son's needs) that will support that. And, quit always asking everyone out there (like us) for donations, because we've got our own damned problems too.

Praying for you and your family. I know it sucks to think about, but a good friend of mine had the severing surgery of his 14 month old and it worked so far. There are lots of things to do for physical requirements and therapy but thr seizures have dropped by at least 95% or more since then. God bless, my friend.

I just stumbled upon your channel from watching a Gamers Nexus video. You are an incredibly brave person, and you have my utmost respect (as a father of two myself). You have made and continue to make incredibly difficult decisions for the wellbeing of your family. I hope that soon you get the peace and space you deserve to begin living happily with your family as opposed to existing day to day.

UFD Tech is a family and we are here for you! I have lived in Florida for 27 years, on and off. My wife isn't the healthiest and we definitely found the healthcare in Michigan to be much better than Florida. Health insurance being interwoven with employment in the U.S. is a real impedance.
I'm sorry. I know that I'm a nobody that is just another random wannabe UA-camr, but I'd be more than happy to take a road trip up to Pennsylvania to help w/ anything you or your family needs. I'm originally from New Jersey. My in-laws are originally from the Philadelphia area.
You know, I'm pretty handy w/ a hammer and saw. I can just envision the UFD Tech basement HQ or the UFD Tech country farm.
I'm no expert here, but we need to get you restructured into an LLC or something, so you could potentially purchase a small business health insurance plan. I honestly don't see UFD Tech having a separate business location, like Bitwit or JayzTwoCents has. Your home & UFD set are one and the same, unless you want that separation of concerns.
