  • Choosing your yacht broker can make the difference between an early sale, or no sale at all. With over 2000 brokers available worldwide to choose between the choice can be baffling, so this video takes you behind the doors of a yacht brokerage to show you just what your broker should be doing for you...and more precisely what I do for my clients.
    If you are buying or selling a yacht then it is really worth considering your choice of yacht broker very carefully, and I would invite you to contact me at any time to discuss your requirements at david.seal@northropandjohnson.com

    David, one of the MOST professional aspects of your videos is just a very minor detail and I’m no sure how many others have noticed. And that is that whenever you are walking through a clients Yachts and the expensive woodwork you are barefoot or just a pair of slippers so as to not potentially scuff or leave marks . I have seen this in every one of the walk through and in my opinion is extremely professional as well as well as respectful. Thank you for thee wonderful vids and please keep them co.

    David is a top tier guy. I nearly bought a 73m project boat via him in 2015. He was fantastic and it would have been a great sale. Sorry, Sir, that it didn't go through. David really gave it every chance it had. Next time... I'm sure. :)

    It would be very interesting to watch a video of you showing the different steps throughout an actual sale (leaving out confidential info ofc). Explaining how you landed the central agency, what you marketing strategy was, how the buyer was introduced (in house/another broker/yacht show etc), and then the closing, survey/sea trials and delivery.

      Hi Sondre, thanks for this comment. You are absolutely right. I am planning to film a lot more this year showing exactly what we are doing to procure Central Agencies and the challenges we are confronted with. As you say, we need to be careful about not disclosing confidential information, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

    Splendid video David. I always assumed life as a yacht broker was like a floating version of Glengary Glen Ross :-):-) Joking aside, I enjoy the honesty from your videos. Keep up the good work.

    David, you're an incredible resource for everyone that wants to learn how to be professional in a business that sometimes seems too far fetched to be attainable. Your upfront honesty, passion and love of craft are all truly admirable. Thank you for the wonderful content.

    Very informative , I would certainly use you if buying something mainstream through a big broker house but have also had fantastic service from smaller brokers that specialize in more bespoke and unique yachts, in particular the low volume explorer / long range yachts , the broker we used has been specializing in those for 25 years , he literally knows every one of them , their ownership history , where they were built , what history they have had and has personally sailed on a lot of them . We nearly bought one (no names:-)) and he quickly put us off knowing it had run around and partly flooded a few years before. We ended up with an 80’ Taiwanese built yacht he put us in , great deal , beautiful yacht , impeccably maintained and yeah we have had a few niggles (it’s a yacht !) but overall saved us from a potentially expensive mistake which the listing broker house wasn’t aware of.

    So, having a broker go over everything, and make sure all my ducks are in a row, before I put my yacht up for sale is a good idea. That way I don't have any surprises come up to sink the sale, at least from my end.

    Great watching your videos David. Keep up the good Work. Do you sell a Wider 150 in 1/72 scale, not in the position to buy the real yacht in her beauty.

    Hello David. Have you ever thought about making a video about Luca Bassani/the Wally shipyard? You spoke briefly about one of their boats in a recent video but it would be interesting to see a whole video about them. Thank you

    You are outstanding, as is Tristram Mortlock in portraying the yacht industry. Is there a marine engineer channel you can recommend.

      Hi Per - YES! As a matter of fact I'll be in the WIDER shipyard tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I'll film anything yet. I may do another shipyard tour video - I'll be touring CRN, Cantiere delle Marche, WIDER, ISA (all in the same road!) and the new Rosetti shipyard between now and Friday. 5 shipyards in 3 days this time!

    Hi David, will you make a video of the wider 165 when it is finished like you did with the wider 150 (I loved that video, watched it already 4 times)

    David, as always an entertaining and informative video. When you are representing a buyer is you process to show them only yachts represented by your firm? Or do you take the buyer's brief and search for what would be best for the client from many other brokers?

    • @Yachtsforsaleblog
      @Yachtsforsaleblog  6 років тому +5

      Thanks Robert. Most yachts are sold with one broker representing the buyer and another broker representing the seller. It is really essential for competing brokers to get on with each other, since we often rely upon our competitors to help us close a sale. I currently have a buyer I am working with who came to see a yacht that I have listed for sale but is unlikely to buy it...so I'm already looking at what else is available from other brokerage houses!

    Hi David. i'm curious to know, Do Brokers charge a flat fee, percentage of Yacht worth or how much time/effort was needed to get the sale/purchase to completion ?

    • @Yachtsforsaleblog
      @Yachtsforsaleblog  6 років тому +4

      Hi David, yacht sales are based on a commission relative to the price of the yacht. More often than not two brokers are involved with the sale, one for the buyer and one for the seller, so the commission is split between them.

    I thought we should just call you? Lol.
    I did have a technical question. Recently I saw a review of the Amer Cento Quad from the boat show channel.
    They had Volvo penta engines with the ips pod drive. (Counter rotating propelled azipod style)
    How come the azipod/azipull style thrusters/engines are not seemingly very popular at all?
    I thought they would offer some better advantages over traditional shaft line drive boats?
    I think the wider used azipod style too, similar to Volvo penta. But hybrid.

    • @Yachtsforsaleblog
      @Yachtsforsaleblog  6 років тому +2

      Hi Cliff, thanks for the question - it's a good one! I'll be visiting the CRN shipyard in Ancona later today and shall ask the technical guys there, but my guess is that azipod/azipull style thrusters are a lot more expensive than the traditional inline shaft system. I'll be visiting WIDER the following day too! WIDER use VETH pods, but they are not really hybrid - they are pure diesel electric. Look out for future "Q&A" videos, I'll almost certainly feature this one!

    • @clifflee5404
      @clifflee5404 6 років тому +1

      Yachts For Sale so diesel electric means the electricity is produced by the disel engines solely?
      So it's not like a hybrid car where the electricity is produced by other means like from the heat of brakes? (KERS - kinetic energy recovery system)
      Anyone making a true hybrid yacht?
