I love that White Nights are your number one. I love my White Nights! Though I haven't tried other brands. I'm content with my White Nights right now and look forward to growing my collection of them. I wasn't able to buy the larger set at one time. So I started with the 12 pan set. It’s always such a pleasure to see foreign artists support Russian paint makers. All three listed watercolor sets are really great and universal, but they do have many differences, so it would be pretty cool to do a side-by-side comparison and analysis, though there is much stuff like this on youtube, but your vision clearly differs from the others.
Funny thing is that many Russian artists hate on White Nights just because they are a bit dull, but I think it’s just because the formulas haven’t changed much in 80 years.

I have others and do go through them. But the one thing all of these have in common for is that the color lays out smoothly. I do abstract and geometric abstract and have color lay where I want is very satisfying to me. Thank you for sharing your favs and your artwork. I had to relegate my traditional art to the waaay back burner when I started learning digital art. I spent 15 years working with computers to create my art and stay active in the work force! I choose mission gold when I came back to traditional art and as a watercolor artist I had a hard time breaking out of my mold. Denise Soden from “In Liquid Color” has converted me to DaVinci Paints! Even mixing multiple brands in one palette! This is sacrilege! My college instructor is rolling over in his grave! Don’t get me started on white paint! Hee Hee! I am still trying to adapt and continue to re-learn even extend my knowledge about my craft. It's always so much fun to hear and see another artists take on favorites. I would have to say I tend to go through fazes of what I use. I'm not sure if it's because I feel guilty to spend the money and then just let them sit on a shelf. I do use my White Nights a lot and they are one of my top favorites. In fact I have nearly all of their colors. I just ordered the new colors for 2020. I have be experimenting a lot with the Qor paints that my daughter gave me and I also love my Sennelier. All 3 are very different as I'm sure you know. I have many brands though, some in just a few colors but in most I have enough colors brand to be able to paint more than just stroke work. I love Daniel Smith too, just don't like how hard they dry in the pans.

I have a few Schminke, Daniel Smith, DaVinci, Winsor &Newton, one White Night and Holbein gouache. My first set was White Nights until I got my more saturated ones and really studied color theory. Favorite all time permanent alizarin crimson is from DaVinci surprise! Also the Cerulean blue is lovely. DaVinci is underrated as a whole in the industry and so affordable. Their DaVinci pyrrol orange is great and perylene green is more saturated then DS. My all time favorite convenience sap green is from Winsor & Newton. It’s brown madder is exactly the same as DS burnt scarlet and the burnt oranges are the same. Mixed with nickel azo yellow you get quinacridone gold or a little more burnt orange and you have a stronger version sold by DS. Phalo green mixed with the previous makes a beauteous sap green too. And DaVinci darker cobalt turquoise is a dream.

I just got that same White Knights palette last week. I’m enjoying it so far, haven’t had a lot of time to play with them because we just converted our garage to a rec room and my art space moved out there. So I’m only half sorted right now and the last bit of construction just got finished today. I have to say, I feel like I’m always the voice of dissent when it comes to Schminke watercolors. I don’t dislike them, but I just don’t seem nearly as drawn to them as everyone else. I think they are too smooth for me. I don’t do much representational art, and I adore granulation and wild pigment dispersion. So my top brands are currently QOR and Daniel Smith. I could probably just be happy with QOR but DS specialty paints are too much fun. I love the primatek range and the lunar colors. They’re just too much fun.

My favourites are Schmincke Horadam as there are easy to work with and easy to obtain here in Germany, Qor as they have kind of a modern touch compared to other brands and I like watercolors with a good flow and White Nights because they are good quality for their price, I just bought the pastel colors.
I had a 24 pan set from Mijello but sold it because there behavior was pretty similar to White Nights. Also, I got my set for a good price on ebay, I think, Mijello is kind of overhyped compared to others and you always should go for a low price.

My favourite would be Sennelier since i was able to get them cheap and have the most experience with them. I recently got some M.Graham, Qor and White nights and have been using them in the Qor tin as my main palette. White nights has a lot of unique pigments that aren't completely lightfast but make great colours, Blue lake (PB1) and Green (PG8) have become two of my most used colours.

  • @B1ackDahlia767
    @B1ackDahlia767 4 роки тому

My main palettes are mixes of Sennelier, MG, & DS, (with 2 or 3 Winsor and Newton colors, and 5 or more Holbeins,) but the majority of them are actually QOR colors.
I love my Schmincke set but have realized that I don't use it as often because I'm not huge on semi-opaque cadmiums. (I think we may have the same set, but mine has full pans.) My set has SO many cadmiums. I feel if I'd more transparent reds and yellows, I'd use it much more than I currently do.
My very favorite watercolor paint has turned out to be QOR. I honestly didn't see that coming when I began teaching myself Watercolor and trying to learn all of the things. They're clean, bright, beautifully transparent with glow and depth, (I'm obsessed with granulation effects, but I use DS for that!) super pigmented, I adore the aquazol, and they've no color shift upon drying! The negative; the insane cost for the tiny tubes.
My White Nights are also my reliable palette. ;) I've swapped some of my yellow pans with colors from what I gather were some of the original White Nights before they were manufactured by Nevaskya Palitra to increase my pink & violet range.
Then I've a palette of DS I've made which I'm in love with, including colors like the Moonglow, Cascade, Amethyst, and Primatek greens. Love their greens & Perylenes. You know, the ones that are considered moreso as "effects paints".
*I keep the Paul Reubens metallic set & Finetech mica for effects and accents.
My Mijello Mission set is the hybrid White Class set, (watercolor/gouache.) It's absolutely fantastic, but the opacity acts differently due to its ability to act as gouache, obviously. The more water you use, the more it acts and looks like watercolor. The more paint you use, the more it behaves and appears like gouache. I look forward to having the ability to try out the pure pigment set in the future.
I am very fond of my M. Graham paints but only utilize certain colors, and the same goes for Sennelier, another brand that's reliable and gorgeous! Hoping to try some DaVinci soon.
All of my goauche is Holbein. 💜

Just wanted to say that you are one of my favourite artist and your videos and works are super inspiring!❤️
    My top three watercolours are:
    White Nights
    Van Gogh
    Rosa Gallery
(which are only three that I have tried so far, tbh:))
my first watercolours were 12 colours set by White nights, and i really love them and I so happy that you to! After I started watching your channel I was really inspired to try watercolor again, and shortly realized that I need few extra colours, and i really wanted to try some tube watercolor but just couldn't find any White nights tubes in my city, so I grab a local brand ones, the Rosa Gallery, and I really enjoyed them, there's a lot of single pigment colours in their palette and all information such as lightfastnes, coverage and pigment names is listed on a tubes and pans, and they performed very well from what I've experienced, which was a big surprise for a new and local brand. Maybe you will try these some day :) And then I just kept buy some new tubes if I was feeling like I need new colours and also gave a try to Van Gogh and really liked them too, it's a good student grade watercolours :)
(I know I'm a little bit long-winded, sorry for that, and also sorry for my English, I'm trying my best and just hoping my comment makes any sense x))
Have a great day and greetings from Ukraine!❤️

My top 3 brands are Sennelier, Daniel Smith and Old Holland! Whenever I pick up paints, those brands never fail me. Though, I do have a few little colors from Winsor and Newton (Perylene Green) or some special colors from a Chinese brand I really don't want to miss out. Recently I have discovered Maimeri Blu, and put a selection in a palette as well as White Nights! The white nights one pigmented green is just so lovely, I really don't want to live without it anymore.

After using Daniel Smith paints for a few years I recently bought the White Night set and the wooden box of Roman Szmal paints (with 4 lrg mixing areas in the lid)..I'm in love with both sets, but the Roman Szmal paints are by far my favorite now (and so much more affordable than DS). I like using the large pans better also. Enjoy from your Lehigh Valley neighbor

Oh! I am so in agreement with your #1 choice x 10! I have ordered other White Nights colors in tubes, and just...wow. I cannot distinguish between Sennielier and “Jackson’s” brand and enjoy those , too. I’m making paints, so I do like what I’ve made, too! So economical, if you add it up. I was blessed with a paint making set, including an amazing piece of heavy, beveled tempered glass. I beg for paint making vids, as you know. My binder ratios are just a bit different from yours, but the primaries are incredible. I hope to buy some of yours someday! I make smaller batches, so far, except for my first batch. I was inspired by you! I can’t choose a # 3, right now. I love granulation in watercolor and few do that well consistently.
Again, put me on the buyers list for your paints and your # 1 choice would be mine, too!

Thank you! I have been doing watercolors for a few years now, but I have only used a cheap pack (I don’t have a lot of money) of watercolors (they sucked so bad) and a six pan travel case of some nicer quality paints but not enough colors (no magenta?!?) they were still not great but they looked pretty and were smooth enough. I finally decided I wanted to get a nice set of watercolors. I have decided to get the White Knight pallet!!! I’m so exited to use it, thanks for including a cheaper set of nice watercolors!❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍🤎💗

Yay for Schmike 😃. My top three are the only three I really have fullish sets of which are 1. Schmike 2. Daniel Smith 3. Kuretake. Also have a lot of W&N professional grade which I also love and am getting into Qors because of Jenny Granberry, Oh yes, also enjoying the few Hobein colours I have. Also, have just put a couple of colour wheels in my Etsy cart because they're from AUSTRALIA!!! (yes, I'm Australian 😬). Thanks for another awesome vid x

My White Nights set is my go to - I love them a lot, I find the mixes very romantic. Schmincke is my number two - steady and bright, I use them for illustrations. And I guess The Sakura Koi would be my number 3, I like to mix them with gouache. The Mijello set looks interesting. I’ve never tried them before.

I enjoy watching your vids and listening to you talk about watercolors - hearing your passion makes me excited too, even though I’m just starting out and learning all this stuff. I want to get that 36 White Nights set so bad, but it’s so difficult to find here and buying from amazon would cost me 3x as much with shipping and other fees :( Hopefully one of the shops here restock soon-ish. Get well soon and take care! I’m fairly new, but I looooove your content 💚

I feel the same way when I get a good deal on my paints too - making me feel good so I use them more often :) I love all the three brands (and have all of them too). I have a set of Aquarius and a few of its individuals pans; and I love them too... As far as professional paint goes, I like everyone of them - and use them depending on my mood (I'm using Maimeri Blu set today). I saw that Daniel Smith is finally coming out with two sets of 24 in metal tins; and Da Vinci has its Jackson's signature 20 colors in a metal tin - both are on my wish list for this year. I'm just waiting for a good deal!

I was going to buy the Winsor and Newton cotman 12 set, it's so beautiful tiny and pretty but then i saw white nights and i felt in love of the 12 FULL pans plastic set. Also tiny and beautiful.
I understand the little higher price is affordable if you're offering FULL pans and more pigmented and vibrant colors. Also i start doing my own research, reviews tons of reviews on Google and in UA-cam.
I'm waiting to get my white nights set. It's already in transit the set. *__*
I made a really good choice.
    And they are artist grade.
    :)

I have a few m graham, Winsor and Newton, and schmincke that are good but not ones I’ll replace once they are used up.
I have a sample set of the mijello pure pigments and they are on my wish list along with qor and sennelier. But I have enough right now though 😏... maybe.

I haven't tried that many brands, only three (sakura koi, the fold out pallet, and the mei liang) the mei liang pallet is $19.90 USD and comes with 36 colors, the 24 color set is $14.90 I think, and from what I've used of them they are great!

Nice to see White Nights on the list! I am a (Russian) beginner though, a bit hard to compare yet as the collection is dollar store paints vs some set I've got in Winners, which actually seems not bad as my friend who is watercolor instructor said. Love the stencils also ;)

I must say I love my paints to be reliable as well but by now I am COMPLETELY over colors by brand. I completely gave up buying new paints, for the reason that my “literally every brand” mix in my main pallet does EXACTLY what I want from them! Also, the color wheels oh my, that first one, gorgeous

I went on a watercolor journey starting about 2 years ago and I tried a lot of different brands, and somehow managed to not try any of these (with the exception of a single tube of mission gold I got on sale). I don't actually have 3 favorite brands I have 2 atm and they Daniel Smith and Qor. I like Qor because they're just so fun and vibrant and I like Daniel Smith because they are unique and a pretty reliable selection. Both of these brands are fairly accessible to me as well. I have been interested in Schminke from the beginning but I shied away from them for 2 reasons: 1. They are very expensive and 2. they didn't to my knowledge have options without oxgall which at the time was something that I was trying to avoid. I've been intrigued by both White Nights and Mijello paints but I decided that I was more or less happy with the collection that I have amassed and I don't want to be wasteful, so I am using up what I have (which includes paints from atleast 5 brands) before I experiment any further. I think my next watercolor exploration will be from DaVinci because I'm super interested in the palette that was created by Denise Soden. I don't know if it's still available but I think I can at least build it up by the tube. After this video I am definitely interested in Whites Nights now too!!

I really wanted to try Mijello paints but in my country there were only available the non-pure pigment set. I bought it and I wanted to love them but I had such a hard time with them. They were too bright too saturated for me and when I tried to tame them down a little bit they started to get to muddy...

I love those brands! I just recently got my schmincke palette and I love it but I have to get to know it better and play more with it before I call it a favorite. I really like mission gold, but I only have 3 colors so far 😄 I like them but no set spoke to me so far so I just hand pick singles. My white klnights are the most used but not the big set but the little selected color palette. I found I prefer very small amount of paints over a big set with only the paints that I really like

I use different types of watercolor paints - normal, pencils and gouache. I'm not too fussy on the normals. I buy the best quality I can afford, which is low cost.
I save my money for wc pencils, specifically the
    Faber-Castell Albrecht Durers.
PS I'm in Canada, and the brands you like are not available here in most art stores.

    My top 3 are
    1. M Graham. Because they are juicy, luscious, easy to rewet, pigmented, and made in my state.
    2. Mission Gold. Because they are juicy, pigmented, easy to rewet, and were the first watercolors I bought when I decided to start painting.
    3. Daniel Smith tied with White Nights. DS for effects like splitting pigments and granulation. WN because they’re awesome, cheap, and full pans.
