Do they give Tony awards for UA-cam videos? My God. What a performance. What a voice. Just before the musical break I thought it was going to end and I almost screamed. I will be listening to this on repeat. Possibly the best one of these Broadwaycom videos.
They should give Tonys for “shitty show but a good song! And also a good performance!” Robert Preston sang this originally (if I remember correctly) and it’s a very weak show but it has some bright spots.
I thought Robert Preston couldn't be topped doing this marvelous piece, but Brian Stokes Mitchell did it! Absolutely brilliant rendition! Thank you so much!
I AM A VERY OLD SOLDIER AND VIEW HARD TIMES, REALLY HARD, BUT I FORGET ALL THAT SADNESS AND GUYS LOST WHEN I HEAR THE WAY HE SINGS &ACTS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS, THANKS!!!
I just love this man. Saw him twice in “Ragtime.” After one performance of “Ragtime,” he was having dinner where I was. Charming, kind and debonair. Saw him in concert once. He never fails to impress. Magnificent voice.
I hope everyone who listens to this wonderful version of a wonderful song also listens to Michael Feinstein’s version which is my absolute favorite version, lovely though this is ❤
When he played the Cam Winston character on several episodes of Frasier....who knew he was this incredible? He was hysterical on the show....this is a remarkable talent.....
I love all of these beautiful studio recorded songs! I really like how they use these videos to highlight softer ballads and songs that don't always get all the attention. I just wish they wouldn't put the outro music so close to the end of the song because it's loud, doesn't match the rest of the video, and undoes everything the performers just did in terms of painting a scene and building emotion. Editors at Broadwaycom please take note!
I heard this for the first time 3 days ago and I promise I have listened/sung it atleast 15 times a day. Lol I love Brian!! I was Don Quixote 3 years ago and since hearing him on that album I have not stop admiring this man! I was amazed when I found out he sung heavens eyes one of my fav songs growing up!
A great singer who is also a wonderful actor. Saw him in his touring one man show. After some light banter he sang “Man of LaMancha” and his voice and manner became the Don Quixote character (his Tony Award). Stunning. This is also a whole performance. For a treat, find the UA-cam of him singing “This Nearly was Mine” (South Pacific) at Carnegie Hall.
I won't send roses Or hold the door I won't remember Which dress you wore My heart is too much in control The lack of romance in my soul Will turn you gray, kid So stay away, kid Forget my shoulder When you're in need Forgetting birthdays Is guaranteed And should I love you You would be the last to know I won't send roses And roses suit you so (instrumental break) My pace is frantic My temper's cross With words romantic I'm at a loss I'd be the first one to agree That I'm preoccupied with me And it's inbred, kid So keep your head, kid In me you'll find things Like guts and nerves But not the kind things That you deserve And so while there's a fighting chance Just turn and go I won't send roses And roses suit you so
I was lucky enough to see Brian Stokes Mitchell at Damrosch Park’s Lincoln Center’s Restart Stages last night. His show was almost two hours, and of course he was phenomenal. He will be there again tonight and for three nights in August. Info is on the APP Today Tix.
Brian, your voice is always magnificent! I have always loved this song but hearing your rendition and interpretation has made me love it that much more. Bravo!
How about considering doing some of Charles Aznavour’s songs I would love to hear you perform. Let yourself go and yesterday when I was young. Oh my goodness I’d probably love to hear your same just about any of the songs I love.
just when I thought no one could match Michael Ball with Mack & Mabel - wish Brian had sung this as a show tune rather than as a lounge tune - but still -
That's talking about my husband some of it. Words romantic at a loss. It's about a film director and his girlfriend who he tries to dissuade her not to marry him but I think she does
I think this is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written.
Do they give Tony awards for UA-cam videos? My God. What a performance. What a voice. Just before the musical break I thought it was going to end and I almost screamed. I will be listening to this on repeat. Possibly the best one of these Broadwaycom videos.

What a wonderful comment!
for me it is one of the most beautiful show ever@@mejusthappyrobot1008
We love bass/baritone representation.
Bass Baritone myself
Bari here - yes!
Bass here!
I thought Robert Preston couldn't be topped doing this marvelous piece, but Brian Stokes Mitchell did it! Absolutely brilliant rendition! Thank you so much!
When the virus leaves us, I can't wait for Brian Stokes Mitchell to greet us all in a Broadway theatre. What a great talent and what a great star!
We're so lucky to have Brian performing for us still, after all these years. His presence and voice are always showstoppers ♥️😊
I AM A VERY OLD SOLDIER AND VIEW HARD TIMES, REALLY HARD, BUT I FORGET ALL THAT SADNESS AND GUYS LOST WHEN I HEAR THE WAY HE SINGS &ACTS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS, THANKS!!!
the accompanist really shined in this! and of course brian's incredible baritone richness
Such a great song- one of those "anti-love-songs-love-songs" and his voice is so sublime. And Joe Thalken is so brilliant.
A great play with great songs.👍⭐️⭐️⭐️
Love this voice. His interpretations are always on point.
This is so beautiful. And the Pianist is incredible
That pianist is all that and a bag of chips
This is not the same voice that sang that show-stopping rendition of THIS NEARLY WAS MINE: A truly remarkable singer!!!
I always loved this song sung by Robert Preston. I’ve never seen the show, but wish I could. I really enjoyed your rendition.
This man’s voice is liquid honey and he’s pouring it straight into my ear holes. ❤
I just love this man.
Saw him twice in “Ragtime.”
After one performance of “Ragtime,” he was having dinner where I was. Charming, kind and debonair.
Saw him in concert once.
He never fails to impress.
Magnificent voice.
From now on, we have to list Stokes Mitchell along with Michael Feinstein, when thinking about stellar performances of this lyrical masterpiece!!!
I hope everyone who listens to this wonderful version of a wonderful song also listens to Michael Feinstein’s version which is my absolute favorite version, lovely though this is ❤
I still remember Michael Feinstein doing it and I love that album. Another favorite of mine on his album was My Favorite Year.
If you have not been voted " The sexiest man alive", it needs to be addressed right now!!! Powerful, dynamic performance indeed ❗🥰
❤️❤️ what a lovely song and how enchanting he sounds 👏❤️
Love him. Saw him in CT a few months ago. Just wonderful
When he played the Cam Winston character on several episodes of Frasier....who knew he was this incredible? He was hysterical on the show....this is a remarkable talent.....
Why doesn't this have more views im offended
I'm crying right now. If I had a wedding, i wish he would sing at my wedding. This is too beautiful.
What a powerhouse! Even in the quieter beginning, his strength enhances the emotion and sets the stage for the dramatic finish.
Why am I crying?? @.@ His voice and the way he sings sends the lyrics to my heart hard.
I wish I could like this a thousand times. TG for BSM
Hope I meet this man some day so I can thank him for the hours of pleasure that listening to his music has provided me.
Just beautiful..
Thank you..
I sang this for my very first audition and got the job. A wonderful song sung trendously well.
What an amazingly beautiful interp!!!
So commited, so honest
.....and Lord knows - the man can SING!!!
😎😎😎
this song makes me feel a certain way and this version just ,,,,, hit.
That was... just wow. This video being live just blows my mind 👏👏👏

YES! I’m trying to have a good cry and then that blasted music...
Great acting and vocal performance! This is one of the great baritone ballads in musical theatre.
I heard this for the first time 3 days ago and I promise I have listened/sung it atleast 15 times a day. Lol I love Brian!! What a singer. Man oh man.
Brian is a genius on delivery of a song he knows what it s all about.
Out of the park as usual. 👏🏻
So beautiful thankyou
This is my ABSOLUTE favorite song to ever come out of Broadway.
This is the heart and soul of this song.
Brilliant!
I won't send roses
Or hold the door
I won't remember
Which dress you wore
My heart is too much in control
The lack of romance in my soul
Will turn you gray, kid
So stay away, kid
Forget my shoulder
When you're in need
Forgetting birthdays
Is guaranteed
And should I love you
You would be the last to know
I won't send roses
And roses suit you so
(instrumental break)
My pace is frantic
My temper's cross
With words romantic
I'm at a loss
I'd be the first one to agree
That I'm preoccupied with me
And it's inbred, kid
So keep your head, kid
In me you'll find things
Like guts and nerves
But not the kind things
That you deserve
And so while there's a fighting chance
Just turn and go
I won't send roses
And roses suit you so
Beautiful.
this guy is amazing also love his 'this nearly was mine'
I love everyone of his songs. His voice sends shivers down my spine.
This is just so beautiful it truly blows my mind

What a remarkable voice: bass-baritone, lyric baritone, what-have-you!!!
This is sublime.
He is wonderful!!

Breathtaking 💖💖💖
Always the best, Mr. Mitchell.😍
Brian, your voice is always magnificent! I have always loved this song but hearing your rendition and interpretation has made me love it that much more. Bravo!
magnificent
Beautiful. And he can sing, too.
Okay, now I am crying....
Great Rendition of a Great Song
I have seen him at the Hollywood Bowl and he is SPECTACULAR!!!! This is one of the best versions of this some, even better than Robert Preston, IMO!!!
Stunning
BSM is a national treasure
Havent heard brian in those higher registers very much, interesting... glad he got a chance to carry it through with that great britone though!
Rachel Berry’s Dad?! *gasp* The Berry talent
thank you! I was wondering where I knew his face from
Emma Meaney i was looking for this comment 😊
i thought i recognized him
Fantastic!!!
You break my heart.
love him
Wow!
What a great performer he is.
What a Talent !!!!!!!
How about considering doing some of Charles Aznavour’s songs I would love to hear you perform. Let yourself go and yesterday when I was young. Oh my goodness I’d probably love to hear your same just about any of the songs I love.
oh my goodness he tested positive for covid-19 :( thankfully he's recovered!!
perfecto !
Gorgeous.
Wonderful voice
Wow!!!!
Who's the accompanist? He's amazing!
He puts a softer touch to the song than Robert Preston did on Broadway. But the song is solid whichever way.
I agree. and yes either way is great for this song. Still listen to my cast album of the OBC.
Terrific
This is a rough song. It’s taken me quite a few listenings to understand the meaning of the song but Brian sings and delivers it well.
Also. Thanks to the pianist
The guys a pro.
always imagined this song as a duet or am i referrinng to YOU DONT SEND ME FLOWERS
Mack and Mabel doesn’t have many duets. Most of the songs seem like soliloquies, very personal.
Right. --- "Bring"
Barbra Streisand & ..somebody...
"....you don't bring me flowers....any-more" 🏆.... 👍 right. Different song.
Прекрасно!
Finally a song I can sing from Broadway that isn’t boring 🥲
Edit: except the last climactic belt is at the very top of my range 😞
❤
FANFUCKINGTASTIC !
Robert Preston is sitting on a cloud; smiling.
Don't forget Jerry Herman.
just when I thought no one could match Michael Ball with Mack & Mabel - wish Brian had sung this as a show tune rather than as a lounge tune - but still -
No one but no will ever match the great robert preston
😔😔❤❤
Does anyone know where I can find this particular arrangement of the song?!
Not just words....................................
Personally I think Robert Goulet did the very best version of this great song.
That's talking about my husband some of it. Words romantic at a loss. It's about a film director and his girlfriend who he tries to dissuade her not to marry him but I think she does
