  • My thoughts on houserules we no longer need in D&D 2024, houserules you still need, and new houserules you may want to use!

    Here's what I noticed: the new Produce Flame cantrip doesn't end when you hurl the flame as an attack, your hand is still flaming after that. The problem is that they haven't added any way to end the spell early, so you may be stuck with an awkwardly burning hand for 10 minutes producing bright light where you might not want to.

    Question on house rule for background origin feat: who thinks you should be able to choose the origin feat instead of it being locked to background? Take tough, it's probably on the background most barbarians will take, which makes more health locked to them.

    The "Daylight" not being sunlight thing just seemed to fit with some of the odd spell names. I always guessed it was some kind of inside joke like the "penny for your thoughts" thing, but we just weren't seeing the humor.

    I think the unspoken house rule on spell components, will continue to be used. That is, that you can use a focus to make somatic components even if the spell doesn't have a material component. Additionally costly components doesn't require a free hand if you have a focus in hand

    From the team that brought us silvery barbs; more broken untested amateur-hour homebrew.

    The only monster I have seen is the Dire wolf which has been nerfed to hell and back, losing almost half its hitpoints and it special ability with keen hearing and smell for perception. This seems very weird as the player power creep is quite big and would have expected monsters to follow suit, not get worse.

    Leomund's tiny hut was one of the reasons I switched from D&D to Pathfinder.

      I don't believe you. It's way easier to ban 1 spell than learn a whole different rule set. What you are saying is obviously not credible.

    • @007ohboy
      @007ohboy Місяць тому

      @hawkname1234 Imagine quitting a game and learning a whole new system all over again because you never really learned the system you were playing to begin with. Cast Tiny Hut. Cool. You can take a short rest. You can only long rest once a day.
      And thats only sort of annoying at low tier, pull that on competant monsters in low midteir play and they will eat that up. Dispel Magic and setting up Ambushes is totally in line with game lore.
      Banning spells is weak. Maybe a case could be made for Silvery Barbs, only because it's Strixhaven and not usually what campaign people are playing.
      Start banning spells I read about in lore/novels and the less Forgotten Realms I think your world is. Banning a spell like shield because the DM cant handle adjusting their encounters better and draining resources is not a table I'd play in. All my tables allow feats, multiclassing, and do not ban spells. Except Silvery barbs, out of 12 tables I've played in the last year, two have banned Silvery Barbs. That's it. 😊

    • @007ohboy
      @007ohboy Місяць тому

      The rules clearly state you can only benifit from one rest a day. Learn the rules noob. 😊
      "A character can't benefit from more than one long rest in a 24-hour period, and a character must have at least 1 hit point at the start of the rest to gain its benefits."

    I know it’s a controversial stance but if you don’t allow multiclassing the need for nearly every house rule on spells just goes away. I introduced this ban 2 years ago when I began my new homebrew campaign and it has been liberating for me as a DM who does not like the optimising style of play. It has made it so easy to balance encounters to the difficulty I desire that I can’t see me ever going back even if multiclassing stops being optional in the new PHB.

    The no save feature could easily be remedied with overhit mechanics.

  • @PsyrenXY
    @PsyrenXY Місяць тому

    I don't think the no-save Push thing is that big a deal honestly. Most no-save Push effects, in addition to needing a successful hit, are also size-limited (e.g. Large or smaller) so it's not like any martial can just grab a Push weapon and go knocking around Adult+ dragons and Tarrasques.
    (In addition, the push distance on the at-will effects tends to be shorter per hit.)

      Throw a clay golem at a party with a warlock who can automatically push enemies back 10 feet, and I have to ask you, “Why even roll dice anymore?”

    It sucks that some of these things got through. Stealth seems to be different but not better. Conjure Minor Elementals (and all the new fake "summon" spells) really sucks and is unbalanced. I would ban ANY cheesegrater actions from my table. I would also no allow Leomund's Tiny Hut. It just removes fun.

  • @ericnull3470

    You can never push anyone more than once in a combat round, regardless of number of creatures taking actions. The action represents what is possible to do... during the entire round. So any action is technically not fully completed until the end of the round. Everyone doesn't get their own 6 second time bubble to act in. Why do so many of you youtube people think this how the game works? Never has, never will, and stop telling people it is.

    • @nathanaelthomas9243
      @nathanaelthomas9243 Місяць тому +1

      You got a page # where it says that in the rules? Effects don’t take place at the end of the round, they take place immediately. If I shove someone, they are immediately shoved and now in that new state, I don’t have to wait for the end of the round for them to actually become shoved.

    The new D&D 2024 edition, is a pile of dung, full of woke shit, and bad rules. Why are youtubers fans of the new, because, they make videos of new stuff, to keep there channel running😮. But all intelligent people, can already see, that the new edition, is bad.
    Keep your old books, or try something from other roleplaying sellers. Like Free league, Cubicle 7 or Paizo.
    Dont give Wizards of the coast/Hasbro your money, they dont care about you, if you buy the new D&D books you have to be prepared, to go all digital in 2025, that is this there plan, and you have to give them 20 dollars every month😢

      What are you talking about? The only problems are in places they haven't playtested, and the ranger. I don't see the reason why would anyone be playing with old class options.
