wow I LOVE this! this is exactly how my mom raised me and my siblings. I grew up in the 60's and 70's, and our snacks were raw carrots and apples, and the occasional clove or cinnamon stick (I loved cloves and always begged for them!) we played outside, and didn't have a TV. Mom made yogurt at home, and we ate a lot of fruits and veggies, although we did eat meat too, but almost nothing that today would be called processed. we didn't drink sodas, it was water, and ice cream was a homemade treat. I'm nearly 63, and I have no health issues. I prefer eating whole plants, and enjoy simple, nourishing meals. in fact, I regularly hang out with people half my age, and I have no problem "keeping up" with them!
I have newly found your videos. I am binge watching them. Wish I had the 45 years ago raising children. Started vegan with little kids but didn’t stick with it. My husband and I are now whole food plant based 15 years. We have incredible health at 70. Wish my kids and grand kids were. But they see what we are doing and respect our choices.
As a father of three and a vegan, I absolutely love this! I do have to say, though, I wish you would update your language to include dads, and not just assume that moms do all of the cooking and meal planning. I am the only vegan in my household, my wife and daughters are vegetarian, and my son is an omnivore. I do about 90% of the cooking in our house, and that often entails making three different meals at a time. I am desperate to get my son to eat more vegetables (or any, for that matter), and I’m hoping your resources can help me. I think you can reach a wider audience by including all parental units. If clever marketing turned men meat eaters, it can certainly help to turn them into plant eaters. Thanks.
Hey thanks so much for the feedback. My site (feedthemplants.com) is speaking directly to moms mainly for simplicity in language. It feels more relatable to talk to fellow moms rather than to "parents or caregivers," but I realize that could turn off dads! I hope that doesn't discourage you from finding resources there. It sounds like you're exactly the kind of person I'm trying to reach: One who's trying to get more vegetables in their kids' diet and needs support. Kudos for prioritizing your family's health. You're giving your son the power of your example and persistence may yet win the day.
Soooo for the longest time I was urinating white blood cells and I would go to the dr and they would test for UTI, but it was never positive… I was always on antibiotics and after having my kid, I was struggling so bad to keep food down and then one day I decided to cut out dairy and now I can hold food down and the white blood cells are gone🤯 no dr ever told me to switch up my diet
same for me but with protein and low ph (frothy urine that sometimes hurt). doctors said i had pelvic floor issues, never got it resolved, just got it manageable. then i switched to vegan (was already flexitarian) and lo and behold my urinary issues disappeared. what the actual f, all these years and nobody once suggested this.
Your kids are the bomb! We raised 4 who love veggies. Wish I would have known to go vegan. I raised them like meat was a side dish and very limited dairy. But, my kids loved veggies because we ate them. Beet tops and salad was a staple in their diet. My mother in law was a proponent of Gerson Therapy which is vegan. She had my kids convinced that romaine lettuce was an after school treat. Kids eat what parents eat. Btw. My kids were thin too and 2 were not overly tall(I’m 5’2”), 2 are are tall. I cringe when I see what’s in peoples carts at the store. Great job in making people aware of what they are eating and feeding their children.
They're certifiably false. All plants have all the essential amino acids, though with a lower limiting factor amino acid than animal products. Even eggs which have the highest compatibility score are still limited to only 50% of the ratio we need. You need more protein but also varied sources to lessen the limiting factor amino acid, though your body has a protein pool during synthesis thanks to our recycling of proteins, so it doesn't have to be in the same meal.
What are the main benefits of fiber? It's a major argument of going vegan or vegetarian but I've never seen a good rational for it. One thing that all diet experts agree on is that successful healthy diets have in common is eliminating processed foods, seed oils, and sugar.
Their philosophy is to go 90% whole plants and allow for some indulgences. Over Christmas one night they had whole grain crackers & breads with an assortment of cheeses and fish. A few of their recipes have eggs in them. I have seen them have occasional ice cream but while I was there for a month we had plant-based ice creams like Oatly a couple times, but I didn't see them eat real ice cream.
No, not for health reasons. I sometimes wonder which is healthier, whole plant foods with a little bit of fish or just whole plant foods. I wonder if anyone knows for sure. Valter Longo is a very respected longevity researcher and he believes people over 65 do a little better with fish a few times a week, but I really don't know about children.
Great message - would recommend keeping all messaging to “parents” and not just moms who prepare food for families. As a whole food plant based dad who cooks all the meals it’s just a little disappointing to hear that. Not a big deal, just a recommendation towards a more inclusive message.
Thanks, Plant Chompers! I'll head over to her site to say thanks to her. I must say that I'm shocked that she didn't mention you as being the person to win her over to veganism.
@@Viva-Longevity 😀 In a way, I can`t blame people. I noticed that almost all perceptions of vegan meals are of fake patties in burgers, which seem to resemble fake veal cutlets, as opposed to great burgers in their own rights. At least this was the case for me. When a vegetarian restaurant opened up nearby, I went there as soon as possible, because I wanted to give them support. Their menu items seemed so unappealing unfortunately. I wish that these restaurant owners would browse UA-cam for modern recipes.
My favorite picture is still the soccer image that you did! Anyhow, great information. Riley is a little older than Bodie and he never missed a carrot tossed his way. Celery? Not so much, that and bananas get spit out (yup! ejected!).
I got lucky, I always felt weird eating animal products so going vegan was so easy. Vegetables are amazing and I feel so good stuffing my face with a homemade stir fry.
Ha! We feel your pain. Our extended family has plenty of people who think we have eating disorders and that we're wrecking the kids by raising them mostly plant based. Ironically, the most vocal ones are high-meat, low carb, talk about how much weight they lost initially on their diets, but are battling heart disease, yada, and attribute it to genetics.
Wait!!! Dr. Bean works in my town. I tried to contact him once because I offer plant based Nutrition Counseling in the same town where he practices medicine. How funny to see his picture on here!
EHat do your kids do at other peoples homes etc birthday parties.. Just so you know We eat your way too but wonder if you had this issue about BDay Parties etc
If all meat was bad then all Vegans and Vegetarians would live as long as those on the Mediterranean diet, but they don't. Eating a lot of fruits and vegetables is good, but we need some meat even if it is in extreme moderations.
Vegan does not equal healthy. You can eat only Oreos and it would technically be a vegan diet but extremely unhealthy. There are also several videos on diet and longevity on this channel, if you're interested.
