It means to tell the ordinary people lies and blame all the problems on the opposition party referred to as "the establishment" for the sake of getting power while not really doing anything to actually improve the lives of the ordinary people.Instead of educating the people about the real world, populists tell them simplified conspiracy theories to get them enraged against the establishment and offer simple solutions that in practice never work. The italian populist parties for instance want to lower taxes while at the same time increasing social spending, while the Italian state is in debt. That the European Union is actually heavily opposed to immigration, but can't really do much to prevent people from crossing the ocean without violating human rights, populist won't tell you. Instead they will claim the European Union actively "imports" refugees and is ruled by a globalist cabal that wants to replace europeans by africans. That the European Union is ruled by the European council which consists of the elected heads of the member states, the populists won't tell you. And Bannon in particular has no interest in the well being of the ordinary European people. He wants to break up the EU, because that would weaken europe as an economic competitor of the U.S.. Individual countries are easier to dominate economically and politically via divide and conquer than an economic and political union. Take Trump's import tariffs for instance. The EU acting as a block is better able to fight back than if each country would be on their own. Or take american silicon valley corporations that want to monopolize the internet. The EU can break up monopolies like google and facebook, can impose sanctions on corporations for violating privacy rights of EU citizens. Thus why american corporations want to get rid of the EU. American corporations aren't the only ones who have an interest to break up the EU. Russia wants to break it up too. And so you have many foreign interests that support anti-EU populist parties in Europe. Le Pen's Front National is getting money from Russian banks.
Carla Delastella I respect your opinion but you’re wrong. My definition of populism is taken straight from the dictionary definition. Again- populism ˈpɒpjʊlɪz(ə)m/Submit noun support for the concerns of ordinary people. "it is clear that your populism identifies with the folks on the bottom of the ladder.
Acca Van Dam populism means you're not voting how the establishment want you to vote. Another bullshit word, like islamophobia, or transphobia. Complete bullshit.
The thing about right wing populism though is that it has the facade of looking out for the common person, but it's really just a lie to get them into power so they can do what they actually want to do - hand over everything they can to the rich. The Trump administration is the perfect illustration of this. He spent his entire campaign railing against the excesses of Wall Street and how they have infiltrated our political system only to turn around and fill his cabinet with people from those same institutions and than pass unprecedented tax cuts for the already excessively wealthy
Channel 4 has always had an extreme left wing political agenda, therefore, balance is generally missing in this arena which lets down their other news they do so well.
it bothered me when the interviewer tried to claim that the right was capitalizing on anger and presented it in a way that made it sound like only the right was doing it. That shows a true lack of understanding (or lying by omission) of the situation in in the US. The left currently are the angry ones: Celebs cussing, MSM with constant race baiting and lying, right leaning pundits and politicians being accosted in restaurants by angry mobs, a nut job leftist trying to murder a group of republicans who were playing baseball, banning people from universities, attacking almost any right-leaning march or protest with physical violence... The list just goes on and on... and the interviewer had the gall to try to claim that it's the right who are benefitting solely from capitalizing on anger.
I think what he was getting at was the right was was taking advantage of angry voters. People aren't happy with the EU because of the economic decline, and there is alot of fear mongering of immigrants from the right. Immigrants are easy targets during poorer times. The thing is, I think people have every right to be angry at the EU and governments in general that have been pushing neo-liberal policies. but reverting to closed borders isnt any better. Nationalism is toxic and dangerous when its taken seriously. Immigrants having been doing alot of jobs that locals dont want to do. Countries rely on them. Im not saying that people shouldnt be angry at the EU. I just wish they wouldnt rush to trust the alt right. Steve Bannon worked at Goldman Sachs, is that someone you can trust more than the EU? The world needs for real socialists, not neo liberalist. Im talking about the Jeremy Corbyns and pre corrupted Bernie Sanders of the world..
Ok Little Gus Gone, lets have a civil debate. I'll start by asking you some simple questions. What specific European science and cultures? Give me examples here. Most people in Europe aren't scientists, so what exactly do you mean? Are you referring strictly to European laws? Second question. What inferior culture and barbaric culture are you worried about?
Rubbish interviewer...getting too emotionally involved and not dispassionately asking questions. Hungary has seen what has happened to Western Europe and doesn't want it. Good luck to them.
A fair question, which goes to the heart of the matter. It warrants the question of why a world organised into national states is better than multinational organisations based upon shared values and free trade. For me, leaving all elements of sentimental identity aside, I can't see how it makes anybody more prosperous, safe or free.
You might want to watch Norman Jewison's original Rollerball movie to get the answer to that. That's exactly how the world ended up organized in the movie and the political Left was aghast at it at the time with how life was portrayed.
37,000 auto deaths, 23,000 gun suicides and 15,000 gun homicides per annum in the USA and few of them by immigrants. Sounds like you need to repopulate with some decent people. Your time has come Murika.
I heard a lot of bad stuff about this Bannon guy but he seems very intelligent, well informed and also very fair here (talking in depth instead of just slogans). Its possible to have a debate with him which is more than you can say about most political apartchiks
It's a general arrogance that they think they are more superior to the USA (and other countries) which in the end always makes one more ignorant, just because it forces one to not be on one's guard and using effort to think.
Fox news is the only mildly conservative news on tv, and the liberal sub humans hate that anyone is allowed to disagree with them. Liberals are defenders of the establishment.
The Channel 4 Cathy Newman joke of an interview of Jordan Peterson really demonstrated to most in North America what is typical across the pond; cutting off people and putting words in their mouth to push your agenda, that's the norm in the EU seems like.
I could listen to Bannon speak all day. I love how he put the interviewer's bias back in his face. Too bad Bannon isn't still in the White House to try and prevent Trump's conversion to a neo-con.
Don’t know what you’re talking about, heard every last word he said. Sim folks just only like to hear what they want to hear and in most all cases, it’s not to hear the truth. Be honest, you’d just rather the interviewer ask questions listen only.
The majority is speaking up after waking up. This isn't about the people in power or the influence of the media (which is left wing and biased). This is the common people who want a change and are going against what has been forced on them, the EU, Islam, and Globalism. The people who are rejecting globalism in favour of patriotism and their national identity, like Italy, Poland, Hungary, and Japan are part of the majority of people in the world that reject globalism. In America, they proved they are in the majority when Trump was elected. In Britain, they proved they were the majority when they voted Brexit. Hollywood has lost billions by putting politics the majority does not want into their movies, Ghostbusters, Solo etc. The People need to be listened to. And the media and Hollywood keep failing because they don't LISTEN to what the majority and common people are feeling. It's easier for the enemy of the people to blame their opponents than accept that they are losing and the people see through them.
GET'EM BANNON! A real American right here. Worked his way from the bottom to the top and never forget the American Patriotism. What he is saying is true.
Why do these British interviewers keep interrupting their subjects? I don't get it. This guy has to impose his opinions on Bannon to make Bannon wrong instead of listening and trying to draw out Bannon's ideas. This is just like the Catthy Newmann interview with Jordan Peterson and the radio interview with Peterson by some British intellectual. They keep disrupting the talk to impose their opinions. If I was interested in their opinion, I would listen to an interview with them by somebody else. It's so offensive.
Using your method we'd get a monologue. If Bannon would stop repeating "OK" after every phrase, as an unconscious (being generous here) ploy to get concurrence from the imaginary audience, I might take more notice of him. OK?
Absoultely. I think its because many Americans are unused to having their views interrogated. If anything the interviewer was too polite. One look at Bannon's backers tells you all you need to know about his real aims. One clue. It isn't about protecting the "little man!"
Bannon really can't believe how ignorant this Matt Frei is……..I can't either……he tries to answer the questions, and Frei doesn't want to hear what he has to say…..just what is going on in the world….. if he would just shut up and listen to what Bannon is trying to tell him, he could learn something…….sickening if it wasn't so hilarious……..love you Steve Bannon
Winston Churchill was a white nationalist. After the war he tried to stop immigration into England, which had become a problem even back then, but no one would listen. Excerpt from Wikipedia: He tried in vain to manoeuvre the cabinet into restricting West Indian immigration. "Keep England White" was a good slogan, he told the cabinet in January 1955.[10] Ian Gilmour records Churchill saying to him, in 1955, about immigration: "I think it is the most important subject facing this country, but I cannot get any of my ministers to take any notice".[11]
It's so beautiful how the interviewer knows more and more the longer the interview goes that he is on the wrong side of history. Speak with the people. Get your country back. For the people and by the people.
Haha and Brexit handed the power to the elites. The uk has too much inequality and the people at the top now will have more power to control their lives. Vs. Being in Europe who has a much better balance of capitalism and socialism. Workers rights are turning into higher and fire to encourage investment. It will get worse.
This interviewer identifies so much with what he already knows that when he hears something unknown the cognitive dissonance is too much to bear... This manifests as exasperating interruptions.
He got an rookie elected to the most powerful position in the world, and with negatives. Bannon is the most important person in this movement. the media is the enemy of the nation, all nations.
It is extremely annoying, that the interviewer barely let Bannon speak. So typical: they keep interrupting because they don't like what you have to say.
John J. Todora challenge .. we do that here; don’t let the interviewee crack on, spouting their own views. Challenge it, force them to explain the ideology behind their thoughts and opinions and don’t let them move on before they’ve done it. Cuomo is the best you have at this. Don’t fear it, it’s journalism, fact finding and pinning down. Truth comes out under this kind of pressure.
I understand your view of challenging the interviewee's view, but there is a respectful way of doing that. I would not call this fact finding at all, in order to find the facts, you would need to hear someone out. This was a perfect example of not letting him answer the questions he asked, because Bannon's answers did not fit in the propaganda the interviewer likes to force on the viewers... I wouldn't call this journalism either, a journalist does not take sides, they should be fully objective.
fiona wilson They can't explain the ideology behind thier views if they're interrupted every second. Besides this interviewer kept trying to put words in Bannon's mouth. He even insisted he knew that Bannon was seeking and missed the limelight. Talk about projecting! The interviewer was the one who chose a career that would get his face on TV every night, not Bannon.
The interviewer is a fool if he thinks nationalism 80 years ago was a bad thing. German nationalism nearly destroyed Europe. But British nationalism saved it. You can't blame Europe's problems on nationalism. Grow up!
23:50 "You loved the attention." Bannon- "no" Interviewer-"Yes you did" Bannon- "No, I couldn't stand it." Interviewer- "Nah, you loved it." hahha... What kind of "interview" is this?
Because people don't really want the individual liberty to live the lives they see fit right? Europe's problems are there own creation and its largely due to a co-dependent citizenry that wrongly looks to a bureaucracy to solve societal problems.
Ladies and gentleman, this is NOT an interview. In an interview 1) the interviewee tends to do most of the talking, and does not have to 'fight' to get a word in. 2) An interviewer normally has more at their disposal than a series of ad hominem insults. 3) An interviewer, at least a professional one, actually LISTENS to the interviewee, and does not use the time to simply line up another attack.
As someone of a leftest disposition, I'm sick of seeing the Media and politicians act in this way. It's no more intellectually advanced than a chat over beers. This journalist is simply stating his favourite points of view, instead of observing and unpacking the thoughts of a man who has been at the centre of huge political shifts. The right needs the left, the left needs the right. Powers needs balances. Listen, question, grow!!!!!

25+ years ago when we visited myriad European countries, my friends and I loved speaking with and learning from young Europeans. They both challenged us and educated us as to why their nation(s) and their continent were great. History, culture, values, people, achievements, contributions, erudition, multilingualism, beauty. The spirit and the pride of Europeans was palpable and I thank them for sharing their ideas and culture with us! 25 years later, and I ask: Where do you go, Europe(ans)? What happened to that pride?

Again-
populism
ˈpɒpjʊlɪz(ə)m/Submit
noun
support for the concerns of ordinary people.
"it is clear that your populism identifies with the folks on the bottom of the ladder.
Acca Van Dam populism means you're not voting how the establishment want you to vote.
Another bullshit word, like islamophobia, or transphobia. Complete bullshit.
It's an extremely vague term. Developments that might be decidedly described as 'populist' go back at least to the Roman Republic.
Let. The. Interviewee. Speak.
Brilliant Bannon
Channel 4 has always had an extreme left wing political agenda, therefore, balance is generally missing in this arena which lets down their other news they do so well.
ok so why don't you bring balance to the video's debate HISTORY INTIME .. tell us whats wrong with this video and back it up with facts..
it bothered me when the interviewer tried to claim that the right was capitalizing on anger and presented it in a way that made it sound like only the right was doing it.
Bannon is a nationalist What's wrong with putting citizens of your home country ahead of foreign countries? Semper Fi.
A fair question, which goes to the heart of the matter. It warrants the question of why a world organised into national states is better than multinational organisations based upon shared values and free trade. For me, leaving all elements of sentimental identity aside, I can't see how it makes anybody more prosperous, safe or free.
jkirk1626 And you are a moron. That is the most demented analysis I have ever seen. Lock yourself up as a traitor to rationality.
@@rory7590 what have you learned from coronavirus bioweapon?
This Bannon guy makes a lot of sense. He's bang on about wall street.
Never listened to Steve Bannon before, Very convincing and articulate.
Same. Puts an interesting alternative narrative to what we usually think of Trump.
Stop comparing Trump to Hitler you swine liberal
And very down to earth
He tried to save the west from the banking war we are in.
That's bcos right wingers are noble liars and black magicians.
I heard a lot of bad stuff about this Bannon guy but he seems very intelligent, well informed and also very fair here (talking in depth instead of just slogans). Its possible to have a debate with him which is more than you can say about most political apartchiks
or even Apparatchiks - (think "apparatus.")
the interviewer interrupts more than andrew marr
Pim David They interrupted each other, that's quite normal in interviews.
He is a TERRIBLE interviewer
JR
More than Alex Jones
NEVER TRUST Steve Bannan 100%%!!
Do you mean kook?
I'm a British deplorable and so proud. If being deplorable saves your country, count me in.
Have a revolt in your country and send all the leftist politician to gallows and start from the scratch and expel all Immigrants.
And when you proudly exit the EU you can say that you took your country back
Sadly - it won't save your country. It will be a failed state of deplorables.
They call this "journalism" in the UK?
There is no journalism in the UK. They just locked the closest thing they had. The "media" is simply the globalist PR arm.
JR
It's a general arrogance that they think they are more superior to the USA (and other countries) which in the end always makes one more ignorant, just because it forces one to not be on one's guard and using effort to think.
At least we don’t have one media outlet in the U.K. that helps sprouts lies to the people like Fox News does
Fox news is the only mildly conservative news on tv, and the liberal sub humans hate that anyone is allowed to disagree with them. Liberals are defenders of the establishment.
The Channel 4 Cathy Newman joke of an interview of Jordan Peterson really demonstrated to most in North America what is typical across the pond; cutting off people and putting words in their mouth to push your agenda, that's the norm in the EU seems like.
The interviewer should look at what has happened to Sweden.
I could listen to Bannon speak all day. I love how he put the interviewer's bias back in his face. Too bad Bannon isn't still in the White House to try and prevent Trump's conversion to a neo-con.
OC Run - Yeah, I spotted that too😩
OC Run trump is doing just fine.
Please don't listen to him. Right wingers are noble liars and black MAGAicians. They'll put you under a spell.
7:29 - Bannon nails it perfectly: "You guys love democracy when you win elections..."
Whatever you think of Bannon, you've got to hate this terrible interviewer.
If you don't want to listen to him, DON'T INVITE THE MAN!
I am with You 100% Mr Steve Bannon. Greedings From Poland Mr Bannon.
gabriel jaszcz
You should work to ban clrcumclslon in Poland.
gabriel jaszcz 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
You're a thick fucker
Poland must be kicked out of the EU.
Go for it Steve!
Anyone who calls out the (so called ) elite the way Bannon just did, is OK in my book.
But then again, you're just a random idiot. So who cares.
John Verhoef - no one- so what’s your problem?🙃
Thank you Channel 4 for posting this it is quite hard to find videos of Bannon
GET'EM BANNON! A real American right here. Worked his way from the bottom to the top and never forget the American Patriotism. What he is saying is true.
"Real Americans" are demons from Aldebaran. You must be deported.
#BANNON2024 The Winning Continues
The first time I heard the word "alt-right" was out of Hillary Clinton's mouth.
alternative to George Bush conservatism has be evil right? lol. Alt right are good people.
I hope that Steve Bannon comes to Europe and Germany as soon as possible!
Channel 4 news interviewer hiring criteria seems to include "Capability to interrupt" (Peterson, now this)
Winston Churchill was a white nationalist. After the war he tried to stop immigration into England, which had become a problem even back then, but no one would listen.
Excerpt from Wikipedia:
He tried in vain to manoeuvre the cabinet into restricting West Indian immigration. "Keep England White" was a good slogan, he told the cabinet in January 1955.[10] Ian Gilmour records Churchill saying to him, in 1955, about immigration: "I think it is the most important subject facing this country, but I cannot get any of my ministers to take any notice".[11]
Intellectual dishonesty is when you espouse and debate your views - which you have a right to do - but you also claim that you're a journalist.
Your side is Hitler's side.
Make Europe Great Again.
This is worth watching. A very rational explanation of how we can all co-exist together.
Is this Cathy Newman's brother?
Steve has much more patience than I do. m m m m m m m m m m m
When does the interview begin?
Thank you!! Exactly!
This interviewer identifies so much with what he already knows that when he hears something unknown the cognitive dissonance is too much to bear... This manifests as exasperating interruptions.
Bannon Is the best...
True Channel 4 is a propaganda arm. How can people not see this.
Gothmatix we do
Why he wouldn't let Bannon speak is beyond me..
Bannon spoke most of the time
Bannon is brilliant - never saw that before I’m ashamed to say.
He got an rookie elected to the most powerful position in the world, and with negatives.
Bannon is the most important person in this movement.
the media is the enemy of the nation, all nations.
This interviewer is just poking at him over and over again. Is this an interview or a debate?? Let him answer the questions you ask.
It is extremely annoying, that the interviewer barely let Bannon speak. So typical: they keep interrupting because they don't like what you have to say.
I see this a lot. Not sure why you interview someone that you don't want to hear out. Do the interview and and argue with the guest less.
Grow up!
How many times did the interviewer evoke the Nazis? His whole stance boils down to "You can't have a sovereign nation because Nazis!"
bannon what a man knows exactly whats happening to his brothers and sisters
GOOD MAN STEVE BANNON you are always WELCOME in the UK.
I thought Bannon was evil, and then I listened to him.
Spent 2 minutes talking about the financial meltdown, 10 minutes on 'don't you miss the power'
A true warrior against global bolshevization.
23:50 "You loved the attention."
Bannon- "no"
Interviewer-"Yes you did"
Bannon- "No, I couldn't stand it."
Interviewer- "Nah, you loved it."
hahha... What kind of "interview" is this?
The reporter has contempt for the average man.
43 minutes of interview (22 of which are Matt Frei interrupting his guest)
Because people don't really want the individual liberty to live the lives they see fit right? Europe's problems are there own creation and its largely due to a co-dependent citizenry that wrongly looks to a bureaucracy to solve societal problems.
Jack Jones
You are right sir. 👍
Could someone tell the interviewer to interrupt Bannon a bit more. Please do it more often.
This reporter is totally outclassed
Ladies and gentleman, this is NOT an interview. In an interview 1) the interviewee tends to do most of the talking, and does not have to 'fight' to get a word in. 2) An interviewer normally has more at their disposal than a series of ad hominem insults. 3) An interviewer, at least a professional one, actually LISTENS to the interviewee, and does not use the time to simply line up another attack.
Steve hasn't forgot his working class roots.
Listen, question, grow!!!!!
didnt realize how smart Bannon is. glad i watched this.
The Interviewers platform was "People in the country, and the working classes are fucking idiots, and their votes should not be counted"
Discussing
This guy sucks...You are fired!!! Great Bannon!
This is not an interview but a debate.
Outclassed.....Bannon is an Oracle. Dangerous for any interviewer to have a go. He needs more airtime, now that he's over in Europe things are gonna get interesting. Good on ya Steve
The interviewer is afraid Darth Vader's coming to Europe
This guy has been a Lt in the Navy, wolf of Wall St, film maker, media executive, and political strategist. The smartest man in the room who often gets under people's skin because of it (see above).
Steve bannon would be a great European President
Matt Frei, please let the person you are interviewing have the chance to answer your questions. You constantly interrupted Steve, talked over him and sounded more like a politician than a journalist. Poor show..... really.
It’s impossible to listen do Bannon, the interviewer simply doesn’t let him speak.
This Channel 4 guy loves his own voice, he did not allow Bannon to talk.
I suggest Matt Frei look back on this. He hasn’t aged well - what Bannon said has come to pass in the large part
So you're saying....................................................
Yevgeny V Prigozhin's troll factory.(Prigozhin(restaurant owner) is Putin's favored caterer).Prigozhin's troll company is at 55 Savushkina Street in St Petersburg, its called the Internet Research Agency. The Internet Research Agency was registered in the Russian Unified State Register of Legal Entities on July 26, 2013.
It's embarrassing how bad this interviewer is.
He's a patriot reincarnated from our countries very beginnings. MAGA
Bannon fries Frei
Congrats, Mr Bannon. You resisted calmly the almost obnoxious interviewer who presented himself as a real pain in the a*s w/o good manners but a whole pocket full of prejudice.
For the love of GOD shut up and let the man speak! You might learn something.
Channel 4 reporter "I am not a part of any propaganda" I spat coffee all over my keyboard lol
Who is interviewing who? seems the journalist is a protagonist for the liberal order. Not even bothered with keeping a neutral appearance, and trying to probe more into Banon's mind. poor interview. pathetic interviewer.
The European media's fear and loathing of Bannon
So what you're saying
Steve just talked circles around this goof. Jesus. You're interviewing someone. Stop interrupting.
That interviewer was terrible. He interrupted constantly. He should be forced to go back to journalism school. He's clearly a propagandist.
25 years later, and I ask:
Where do you go, Europe(ans)? What happened to that pride?
