Question? Theoretically if i leave the old switch on and disconnect the wire and hook up the new switch it should work? Just trying to pinpoint if it is the switch or the wiring?
Normally that should work. If there is a shortage in the mircoswitch itself than everyting should work perfect with a new switch, if it still fails to work properly than you should start looking towards the wires
After removing all the screws and drowning everything in WD40, my switch is still completely glued to the glass. I tried using a hammer, but don't want to apply too much force, or else I might break the glass. Any suggestions? Also, my inner wiper fixture (which is removed alongside the switch) does not rotate no matter how much strength I use to try moving it.
I have the same problem, impossible to remove, I am either thinking cutting into the old swith, since I am replacing it with a new one. Or did you eventually have found a way to remove the old micro switch from the window?
@@ppawlot I eventually made it. Had to use a saw to cut it in half, then remove it. As said in here: www.bimmerforums.co.uk/threads/e91-rear-wiper-rear-glass-switch.572298/#lg=thread-572298&slide=1 The wiper shaft from underneath was a big pain to remove as well. Be very patient and extra careful to not break the window.
I've got this exact same issue. I'd really like to avoid cutting so clse to the glass, but as 2 people have had success with this method, it might be the only thing left for me...
Hi Mark you have presented a good number of very helpful videos, thank you. I'm having the same trouble. Can you tell me which fuse I can remove to temporarily stop the rear glass opening intermittently please? Cheers.
Mark McKenzie Hi there. No I don’t know which fuse. I had to replace that micro switch and that solved the problem. It was a pain regularly and randomly opening. Especially at night as the interior lights would come on. MRT

my button doesn't want to come off... i took all bolts and nuts and everything out.. is superglued lmao to the metal piece beneath i think ... well i oiled the other pivot point... i dont think that button is supposed to come off... unless u heat it and ruin the seal ... but on a 17 year old wagon... that thing is cemented... better leave it as is.
@@Bacon-cn1wr yea i fixed it, now my wiper works, but i broke the wires for the actual button and i can only open it by remote. the shaft needs to be worked out carefully, the problem on my end was the shaft cause of my e46 2004 old Betsy was cemented there with lots of stuff... so yea in the end i manage to do it, wp40 a flaming torch a clenching wrench and lots of patience and carefulness but i should've tried that before i messed with the button and cut off the wires... but ehm, works atleast. the button on my end, i think the last owner changed it and when he placed the new one, he used some cement adessive or something on the button to stick to the window cause it wouldn't want to come off, the seals and everything was there just the button was stuck to the window definitely and forever.
@@GeorgeZaharia thanks for the reply. I think the problem I have is I live right near the sea and the aluminium ring has corroded and fused to the shaft. I'm going to drill through the aluminium ring with a small drill bit in the morning hopefully that works and I don't brake the window lol.

Hi Gavin, I have done a few videos on the BMW tailgate. See them all here in this playlist. ua-cam.com/video/YvM9NzIMaRY/v-deo.html Chances are you may have wires touching in the hinges and causing the glass to open. It is all covered in these videos. Enjoy your research MRT
@@jovanthomas560 Lol I have the same problem. After installing a new MPM ecu because of water in the trunk I´m now searching for the water leaks. Panoramik roof blockers have been deleted. I think there is coming water through the rear window and I can´t manage to open it. Will try to only take off the cap, and cleaning all the contacts behind.

Good job
Tailgate switch test with an ohm meter reveals a known good reading of 332 ohms of resistance when the switch is activated. Test this first.
Mine is releasing automatically randomly. Presumably it’s the switch on its way out?

Did you find the fuse?
What if you just unplug the microswitch?
@@miagreatsister9612 if you take fuse out, wipers will not work just unplug wires from the button
Hi man great tutorial. My wiper arm is fused good and proper to the micro switch housing I've tried everything with no joy any tips or ideas.
Isn’t it frustrating when things refuse to budge. I would soak it in wd40 and give it time. That will help even if it is corroded MRT
Good video but the music at the start is annoying. Mark position of nut on glass with tape so you don't over tighten and break glass on reassembly
