lol I found the conclusion odd. 1080 showed the most stability. Also when zoomed in more, 4k looked smoother in some parts. This kind of test can only really work if used 3 osmo actions at the same time. Every single time you move/run, you will have a different outcome. In conclusion, can't take this video as 100% solid. But still pretty good in almost all settings. Hower lower to 24fps if want a cinematic look (which is smoother).
Numbers mean nothing ultimately. Some of the best videos are less than 4k quality that I've seen but the content is 100% Looks like 2,7k is the sweet spot having said that.
Thanks for this! I was very disappointed flying my FPV drone with the DJI Osmo Action at 4k. I found 1080 to be way superior with stabilization but image was way to soft. Will try this. Thanks!
Thanks! But... it seems that the 1080p tests are slightly grayer / darker -- due the choosen resolution or is it just a moment where the sun was not as bright?
I am wondering, when using 4k with Rocksteady, the camera has to crop into the sensor resolution in order to achieve the stabilization(digital stabilization). I am wondering if 4k with Rocksteady is just 2.7k upscaled and maybe sharped more. Does anybody know, when using Rocksteady, there is a real resolution difference between 4k and 2.7k?
Yes, I think OA has fake 4K. It also shows same 84 minutes of capacity for 4K and 2.7K with 64gig memory. Both resolutions has the same bitrate (around 104000 kb/s) so 2.7 should provide better image quality which is not true. They are practicaly identical with only digital sharper 4K image. And that's pretty shi*y cause I would not expect such a bad moves from company like DJI.
2,7K is at the sweet spot: Best stabilization, less memory and power consumption compared to 4K with only a small loss in quality.
I'm glad to hear that. I just bought a new 2.7K camera for kayaking, so stability is important as well as a decent picture. Thanks for the info.
Thanks friend this is really helpful.
1080p: for wide and slow motion.
2k: for high detail shots with good dynamic range
Danke. Wollte für mich genau so ein Video machen um die richtige Einstellung zu finde. Vielen Dank für den direkten Vergleich.
Thank you. Good to actually see side by side to be able to compare each of them.
Great video. I have always wondered which is best. No matter what settings, the Osmo Action camera & rocksteady are amazing. You have just proved it.

Thanks for a great video... Maybe it's my eyes but I honestly don't see that much difference between 2.7k and 4k
I think that narrow has less shadows and even more less shadows on 24fps and the gopro doesn't have to struggle on stablization because its 24fps
I'm looking to buy an Osmo Action. The Rocksteady is a feature that Osmo Action has correct? It's not something I have to buy extra?
its built in
really useful - thank you. And what FPS were you at?

don't you think the only difference in quality between 4k and 2k is that at 4k is Osmo using lot of image sharpening (due to upscaling) ?
Very good. Just what was needed to A! the Q? Thanks for your effort.
2.7k what fps did yo use? is it 24? 30? or 60??
What’s really important is the FPS. I use 60 fps instead of 50 or 30 for the smoothest video
more fps - more noise
Just because you can slow footage down doesn't make it smooth
When I run with rocksteady on it get's super blurry, and it's not very smooth
How was the camera being held or mounted? Great test!
By looking at his shadow it seems like he is just holding the camera in his hand
how many minutes is shooting 1080p 60 fps when rocksteady is on?
Hey, I followed the 2.7 advice but now all of my ski videos are ruined with 4:3 ratio! I love widescreen. What to do???
Strech it to 16:9 , it's pretty easy
sorry I can ask you why you record in 4: 3 instead of 16: 9 directly is there a specific reason? Thank you
Thanks! But... it seems that the 1080p tests are slightly grayer / darker -- due the choosen resolution or is it just a moment where the sun was not as bright?
Yes because of the Sun!
@@gimbalguru360 that's unfair! :(
Great video. Very useful to select
1080p was the most steady. Very obvious when running. Why did you say 2.7K is?
Overall image quality and compromise
So, 2.7k has wider angle than 4k? That's good 👍🙂.
is 4k smaller FOV than 2.7K?
...I can never see the answer to this basic fundamental question?
watching this on a 1080p display without glasses. 1080p ftw.

I'll go with 1080, thanks bud
ride a bike for a smoother effect
4k is over rated! 😉
Yup, still watching in 480 lol
4k is better than 2.7 and 1080p. Always…
good
