Astounding that this place is so well preserved! I saw a video about this place about 10 years ago, and it looks like it hasn't changed a bit even since then! No vandalism, leaky roofs, broken windows, rotten siding, rodents, etc like you'd normally see. I guess it helps that they have care takers and that it is so remote
Yeah I wonder if that caretaker is literally cleaning and dusting those “public” spaces on the tour in addition to just making sure nothing is falling apart. I think he must be!
It would be a nice place to come for a nature holiday. You could turn it into a great nature resort. There are already facilities to offer courses and conferences etc. I bet there are some beautiful walks around there.
I tried finding Kitsault march 2021. I was so close but I couldn’t find the last road in to town. I made it to a dead end road an I suspect I missed the turn off into kitsault. I was a little disappointed not being able to find it but the scenery over in that part of the country made it well worth the travels from Vancouver.
Contact Rob Bryce here: northernbcjetboattours.ca He's the tour coordinator. You'll have to get to Terrace, British Columbia, and from there he will drive you to Kitsault. Enjoy :)
Great footage. Fascinating place. Sad to see all those resources going to waste. The place is in remarkable condition for having been abandoned for nearly 40 years. It looks like people could move in tomorrow and pick up where the former occupants left off. Beautiful location too; hard to believe people would not want to holiday in the area. Word of feedback though - the captions are a bit jarring. Maybe next to make them a small font and offset them to the bottom or a corner so they are not blocking the video?
I think that It would be a great place to make it the first town that has only electric vehicles also it would be a great place for people with addictions to get the help that they need we should be making anything to do with clean energy I would love to live there and try to make this happen
Have prices of Molybdenum stayed low? Isn't that the main product in LiquiMoly, a very popular motor oil? I remember watching the old Global news article on this place like a decade ago, thought the new owner was going to make it an artists collective community.
I tried to make it to this place when I lived in Smithers but I took the wrong road! Didn't realize there are two lol I research better now! Gonna try again :)
I was not more than 15 minutes away a few weeks ago. On the hunt for wild mushrooms. I wish I at least made my way to the gate. That would have been cool ahah
I'm surprised it is still abandoned, there was a story done by Global News I think maybe a decade ago that said a wealthy businessman bought the entire town and began to restore it. I'd be curious to see what happened to all those big promises during the years just before and during the pandemic. Surely with everything going on right now, people would be clamoring to move somewhere affordable and away from the noise such as this.
My guess is the owner doesn't know exactly what he wants to do with Kitsault. When he bought it in 2005, there probably was a lot of enthusiasm for a revival. But now? Convincing people to live there is a tough sell. Only the hardiest souls who want real peace and quiet would choose to do it.
You don't have to ask me twice, I'd love to live there! I was originally from NYC, lived in NJ for 40+ years. It's so densely populated that I'd love to get some peace and quiet!
I went with Northern BC Jet Boat Tours. They operate out of Terrace, British Columbia and organize group tours to Kitsault. Kitsault is eerie, not only because of the empty buildings but also the sense of isolation. It closes in after a short time.
Quickest way is to fly from Vancouver to Terrace, British Columbia. From Terrace, the drive to Kitsault is about 180 km. The cheapest option is to drive from Vancouver, but it would take 18-19 hours.
@@andoy8449 Cool. Just a couple of things you should know: The next available tour date is June 11, 2022. You can't visit Kitsault by yourself. It's private property, and not accessible in the winter. Check out this website: northernbcjetboattours.ca
The businessman who bought Kitsault wants it preserved. There is sense of nostalgia inside the shopping mall and empty houses. It's like stepping back to 1983. No one lives here. A few caretakers do repairs and maintenance.
If I owned it the public would never see a thing, build a bigger fence. Hire more security. BC does not need a neither retirement community the whole province already is. Cool as hell though.
It looks as if it’s quite well maintained
Yeah, buildings definitely don't just stay nice without human intervention. Someone is keeping the place up.
Such a beautiful town, I'd love to live there!
I live so close to Kitsault, but have never been. Maybe this is the year I'll take a tour. Love the video, thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you. It's worth a visit.
The distant muffled chatter makes this even more enjoyably eerie.
😁
Worked for Bc Moly in 1971/72.Was United nations of guys, lots of fun in that bar, when not working double shifts.
Awesome! Hope it doesn't go to waste. 👍🇨🇦😎
this town looks better than some towns do today ....such a shame no one is there

It certainly is off the beaten track, almost 1500 km north of Vancouver.

Beautifully shot
Thanks
I really love the editing

Not surprised you missed it. There are so few road signs up there.
Great movie set !
omg I'd love to see the books =D I was hoping maybe they'd be for sale haha
Or just any of the 80s stuff lying around. aaahhh that would be cool.
There's nothing for sale :)
how do you book private tours? i’d love to go there in the summer this year! :)

Northern bc jet boat tours. Is the only way to get into kitsault
The ghosts are doing a heck of a job cleaning and maintaining. Do they take other jobs ?

Beautiful country.
Why is the electricity still on? Why isn’t there dust on anything?
A team of caretakers maintain and clean everything year round.
I've watched several videos about this town. I am coming to the conclusion the powers that be keep this place so well maintained for a reason.
I think that It would be a great place to make it the first town that has only electric vehicles also it would be a great place for people with addictions to get the help that they need we should be making anything to do with clean energy I would love to live there and try to make this happen

What are his plans for the town?
It's hard to say at this point.
Have prices of Molybdenum stayed low? Isn't that the main product in LiquiMoly, a very popular motor oil? I remember watching the old Global news article on this place like a decade ago, thought the new owner was going to make it an artists collective community.
Haven't heard anything about an artist's community. It could happen in the future.
I tried to make it to this place when I lived in Smithers but I took the wrong road! Didn't realize there are two lol I research better now! Gonna try again :)
It's easy to get lost up there :)
I go there all of the time.
That 1 caretaker is doing a hell of a job.
Wow... awesome
I wonder what the name means. I live in Sault Ste Marie which roughly translates to Grand Rapids of the St Mary's.
who is talking in the background in these clips? are there other explorers there / some people actually living there? people with you?
They were other explorers 😄
I wonder if the books I'm looking will be there?😀
They're not going anywhere.
@@AnObservantTraveller74 sad cause no library in BC has them either😛

Can you tell us how you managed to tour it?
Was it creepy?

I agree with him 100 percent.
I would move there keep getting chickens and pigs and take over

And there is electricity. ?
Yes
@@AnObservantTraveller74 can we get in touch the owner ?
Why don’t they create a farm coop and have people move there buy into the coop and work it
Good idea, in theory. But first you would have to get people willing to farm, and live in this isolated area.
There must be a caretaker right? Someone has to be looking after the town for it to be in such good condition after 30 years
Yes, there are caretakers staying there full time.
Yes. There is a caretaker.
I thought someone bought that town.
You're right. It was bought by an Indo-American businessman.
Makes no sense that everything looks staged and still in good condition. Does anyone live there? What I mean is usually the elements move in

I'm not sure that would happen. Kitsault is miles from anywhere and the winters are brutal.
That RBC looks like exactly like the bank i opened my first account in.
