An architectural firm, Unecon, designed the buildings and an engineering firm, Associated Engineering, designed the roads and services. I was responsible for the engineering design from 1979 through 1981. And worked with Ian Waters, the architect, to site and develop every lot individually so that the town did not look like a typical ;mine town'. At the time there was no road access and everything was either barged up from Vancouver by Rivtow, or flown in, usually in a Grumman Goose, from Rupert. We put in the sewer and water systems, and even had as satellite dish. There was a strike at the Endako Mine and the price of Moly hit around $30US/lb. The strike was settled and the price soon dropped back to something over $3US/lb. And that's when the mine shut down. Thanks for the posts. Bring back a whole lot of really good memories.
In 2004, the ghost town was bought by Indian-American businessman Krishnan Suthanthiran for $5.7 million; he has spent $2 million maintaining the town.
@@katherineniotis4900 Thanks for the information Katherine! I will put it on my list of places to know beforehand the coordination that you indicate. Greetings!
Phelps Dodge acquired the Moly deposit in 1999 after it was shut down in 82. AMAX reopened the mine in 1980, years after it had been operated by Keneco Exploration. There are a lot of incorrect facts in this video.
This is incredible footage I remember 1992 very well this is a prime example of boom and bust out west I bet today these dwellings are probably used to house the immigration boom going on today
Still empty besides caretakers. Guy in the states bought it while ago and owns it all. Talks of opening it for mining operations round area but nothing as of yet
@@terencechevalier5756 well hope this dude gets around to opening the area for those purposes... this style of residential housing is what I grew up in hopefully it doesn't go to waste
@@stevemino142 ya itd be cool but hes owned town for long time now and highly doubt hes opening it. Theres others that make arrangements to tour it but thats all. This is some of the best footage I’ve seen! Thanks for uploading this!

I'd love to go there...It looks like a nice town.
No annoying neighbours I guess!
😂 for now, anyway! After living in NYC and NJ, maybe a nice quiet place is what I need!
Was just there this past summer. Looks the same just with way more of the nature taking over.
I love Kitsault a lot! It's not such a bad place to live
It looks just the same, I was there in 2018.
How did you go I thought the owner denied public access?
True liminal spaces...gives ya the creeps! It's crazy that this was when it was abandoned 10ish years and now it's been another 30 years!
If the mine had not shut down, I would probably still be living in Kitsault. I really love that place.
Beautiful place that I hope I can go to know. Do you need any permission?
I heard that you have to call the caretaker to see if you can have a tour of the awesome town. 👍🙂

What a tragedy. Such a waste. Glad to see this footage get uploaded instead of just sitting on a shelf somewhere.
That mall reminds me of Northshore mall in kamloops
Turn it into a vacation / wilderness / ski resort town !!!
