This guy is really great! His videos give a lot of necessary specific information. I like how he mentioned the torque specs on both the fill plug and the drain plug. Also how he mentioned filling it till it dribbles out slightly WHEN IT'S COLD. No warming it up and checking the level. Some transmission require this. I was wondering about it and I already knew if I go to this guy's video he would specify. He specializes in Ford so he seems to really knows Ford's products real well. This guy produces very excellent, informative, high quality videos.
I really appreciate your educational and very detailed instructions on how to do things like this on Ford vehicles. It helps out especially in a jam. Thank you.
Thank you dude! Just changed the transmission fluid on my 2012 Escape Hybrid and just like you said in the video it's really easy to do. Thanks again for all you do!
Great video, thanks! I did this fluid change yesterday. Very straightforward as you describe. Great price from Rock Auto on Mercon LV, available in 5 qt container. Bought that and 1 additional qt. from them. Specification for my 2011 is 5.3 qts, and that is pretty much what it took (when I subtract my own spillage). I purchased a hand transfer pump from Harbor Freight for the fill. I noticed however that once the splash guard is off, there is enough access from the drivers side wheel well, that I could have just used a funnel I have that has an extension tube on it (around 24" long) with a tapered tip that would fit in the fill hole. Probably would have been less messy than using the HF hand pump- I should have cut down the hoses on it, they kept curling up. Thanks again!
Would be great to see your custom pump set up and other mechanic's tips and tricks you use in the shop on an upcoming video. I always want to know how you stay so clean wrenching on cars!
Is this the same in a 08 Mercury Mariner hybrid I was told that I was going to have to remove part of the transmission to get to the transmission filter
Same, The MARINER, TRIBUTE, Escape, " HYBRID", It's all the same power train, the only difference is the interior with the buttons and knobs and what not....
Thanks for the content. What about age of fluids? Opposed to the miles? I just picked up a 08 Escape Hybrid with less than 31000 miles on it. I assume it’s the factory fill. Because you show it is a simple maintenance routine I am going to change my fluid as it’s 16 years old (I assume), along with all of the other fluids.
Just bought merc mariner 07 hybrid yesterday. Engine does not shut down and go into elec only mode ever. System check in dash says all normal. Ac not on. Mpg indicator wont show more than 12mpg. Eco indicator needle gauge works, led eco readout show low end of eco scale. No warning lights active on dash. Was there a bulletin for electronic flow control device malfunction? Has non readout system diag n flow control radio. Cheaper stock radio so dont think its rranslator for steren from canbus since readouts in dash. What do u think?
Mine did that when the thermostat went out. It never shut the motor off at idle. Eventually the check engine light popped on though after several months.
Good info! Looks super easy. I got my wife a 2018 Subaru Imprezza with the CVT tranny, and not having any experience with the CVT, I had been wondering if it required any fluid changes.
Hey Chris! Yeah, I'd definitely change it, whether the manual says to or not. Can't speak for Fords, but from what I've seen of other brands, the CVTs aren't as robust as a regular automatic. They need all the help they can get. In the case of the Nissan Rogue, no replacement parts are available ... so when the thing lets go, it's over $2 LARGE plus core to swap out the entire assembly.
Hey Smitty, thanks for the tip. Yeah, this CVT is an interesting annimal... it will go from 0mph to 60mph on 25% throttle, and the Tach will never move from 2k. Yet, if you floor it from 0 mph, it has pseudo shift- points built in to the solenoids, so it "feels" like a standard 6 speed auto.
There's a big difference between a conventional CVT and an eCVT as seen in the hybrids. Conventional CVTs have the whole pulley and belt setups and depending on the manufacturer may be 'ok' to just 'bad'. eCVTs have been proven reliable and rock solid as all they are is a simple planetary gearset, no clutches or gearing. Simple and reliable electric motors in addition to the engine do the work of maintaining the gearing ratio through that planetary gearset.
Ahh, good info Matt - thanks! I'm probably 10 years away from seeing one of these in my shop, if I even see one then. Ford and Chevy country out here - 99.8% trucks. :)
Thank you for this vid, it is very helpful. I recently bought an '09 Hybrid with 22K original miles. The seller let the vehicle sit for several years due to an unsolved brake sensor issue. I've got that resolved now, but I'm wondering if I should change the tranny fluid now or is it okay to wait until 60K miles? I've put new tires on it with new air pressure sensors, and I've put a couple of tanks of gas through it since I bought it. What other fluids should be changed and maintenance done now since it sat for so long?
That's super low wow. You're probably fine to leave it for another 20k miles then change it all out and leave it for the 60k miles before changing again. Might be worth popping the fill plug to make sure she's nice and red and slowly dripping out so you know she's full. For peice of mind. My gf has one and I'm in love with this thing. Great rig at 320k km so far.
I have a 2009 Mercury Mariner hybrid that I only drive a few times per week. It hasn't reached 30,000 miles yet so I'm wondering if, like the motor oil, the transmission fluid is one of those things that should be changed every few years or so, regardless of the mileage.
Same problem for me. I had an old denatured alcohol bottle that I dumped out and used it to pump. My 2010 FEH took about 6 quarts, even though the owners manual said 5.4
Brian, thanks for another great video, I'll definitely be changing the fluid myself this next time instead of taking it to the dealer. On another topic I have an 2008 Mariner Hybrid with 115k miles and recently it's been getting a Regen Braking error in the dash text display, along with the ABS & Wrench lights. I've driven it with this condition and it definitely changes the braking characteristics. Usually if I turn the car off, wait a minute or two and restart it the error clears itself and the brakes operate normally. I curious if you (or anyone else watching this video) has ever had this issue and what it takes to fix it. Thanks again.
JIM, +, go to each wheel and check out the--" ABS sensor" and harness make sure you don't have any frayed wires, Do a good, Thural VISION INSPECTION, use a flashlight, take your time and look at the - "star ring Hub toner" , where ABS sensor is detecting a PULSE, look for any damage as you turn the wheel, Also, while you're there, clean out the sensor with "brake cleaner" sometimes if you have too much metal debris- build-up on the sensor, it can ACT UP.... Take your time one thing at a time so you can eliminate the Causes that you' ve already gone through your " DIAGNOSTIC - CHECKLIST".. Also, maybe you have a bad--" ABS sensor" , look up a video, on how to test, A " ABS - SENSOR".... GOOD LUCK, 🤞, Hope you find the issue.....
I'm having electric problems in my hybrid. Is there a knowledgeable mech who might be able to check it out in southern Cal. area that you might know of???
I have a 07 escape hybrid with 178 thousand miles, don't think trans fluid was changed for years,do you recommend changing it now or will it hurt the trans?
If it hasn't been changed in a long time, or not at all, at 190,000 miles will draining and filling it cause it to fail? I know regular automatics are like that.
1. park the car on the level serface and wait it's cool 2. turn the steering wheel all the way to the left or just take it off 3. take the filler bolt off, you should be able to see the fluid if it's full.
I have this exact same question. I bought Mercon LV for my 2013 Ford Fusion hybrid and have a ton left that I wanna use on my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. I thought the 2008-2012 Escapes were the same? Did you have any issues using Mercon LV on your 2008 Escape??
I have a 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid with 161k and did a drain and fill based on this video at 140k. Now I think there is some slipping happening now. The rpms will stay just under 3k at 70mph. Any thoughts?
I have a 2006 Escape Hybrid with 95k miles. It needs about $1500 in repairs (wheel bearings, control arms, brakes). My mechanic thinks the transmission is "bad" and will cost a lot more to fix. When accelerating is feels like it's in neutral until about 3500 RPM. Will changing the fluid make a difference? Is it possible that the transmission needs replacing with so few miles?
My 2007 Hybrid sometimes slips when it’s real cold (like 10 degrees or below) and it sounds like my front wheel bearings are loud. Are they related? I’m going to change/check the trans fluid, but is there also a filter that needs changing with this procedure?
Long shot but, I'm looking to buy a used 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid but already know there's an issue with the A/C and power steering. A/C I could care less about, and power steering from what I understood was fixable by swapping out a sensor. However after talking with the selling, he tells me that because it's electric there's no fluids so...you gotta change out the whole assembly? Still cheap to buy from a scrapyard but, not sure if this is right or if he's mistaken and I'm able to just swap out the sensor that seems to be an issue? Thanks! :)
I have a 2006 Escape Hybrid with 105k miles.. I bought it with 93k miles. Not being sure if it has been changed already, would you recommend changing it now?
My 2010 ford escape has transmission issues, the scanner says transmission fluid overhead, and loss the power util stal , and the transmission fluid its ford and new , it's mean my transmission it's gonne?
The hybrid cvt is extremely robust. It's not even the same as most cvt. I believe in the leave it alone stance on transmissions. We have 2 with over 225,000 miles and have done nothing maintenance wise to either. If you buy a used high mileage unit, leave it alone. If you get one low miles, then do the flush.
if i start hearing a clunk at higher rpms, could bad trans fluid be the cause? I started hearing a clunk yesterday, parked it and inspected the suspension, rock solid except for worn front brakes, 195000 miles, just bought not sure if fluid was changed.
Brian, I have a 2015 Ford Focus sport 1st question where can I get a service manual? I searched but can only find up to 2014. The 2nd question is I cannot find anything that really explains what the sport model is I know the bottom side skirts are painted and the front valance(dont know if thats the right word or not) also the paddle shifter.
I went to the dealership to change transmission fluid on my 2005 FEH today and in the notes they put in Mercon LV (XT-10-BLV). I questioned them about it and they said LV supersedes V now. I have no way of verifying this. Does anyone know?
Up to 2008 is Mercon V! My mechanic double/triple checked for my 2008 FEH. Your mechanic didn't do his job properly. Mercon LV is for 2009 and after...
That is absolutely 100% true. I am actually shocked they even serviced the transmission at all. Here in Denver, Phil Long Ford claims they cannot drain and fill my 2012 Fusion Hybrid CVT or my 2015 F150 Platinum automatic 6R80 with EcoBoost engine because they are "Sealed" for the life of the transmission! MY ASS!! That is complete garbage. They both have a drain and fill plugs. I did upgrade the transmission pan on the F150 to an aluminum pan since I tow my boat and it adds a few extra quarts, easier filter changes and better cooling. Added a larger secondary transmission cooler too. Anyways. the Fusion Hybrid uses Mercon LV and I use the Valvoline Full Synthetic Mercon LV available from Amazon for $5.47 a quart and in the F150 Platinum I use the Amsoil Signature Series Fuel-Efficient Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid. I have changed the fluid Completely twice on both of them. They will run better than when it was new and the fuel mileage has gone up on both since I moved over to Amsoil or Mobil1 engine oil and better trans fluid. Your vehicle and transmission will never know the difference between Mercon V and LV. Just compare the specs of them. Ford acts like they have some magic recipe and potions and if you don't use their fluid "which no car manufacturer makes their own fluid" that your trans will fail and leave you stranded in the middle of Kansas. Give me a break. It is 2022, not 1938 with SAE 30 in non-synchro transmission. Hell, Mercon LV would work in that too. These are ZF transmissions which are gear driven, and the same ones used in many brands like Toyota. If this was a Nissan CVT, I would just wish you luck, no matter what you do. But Amsoil makes a good NS-2 and NS-3 fluid. But they are not belt or chain driven.
Thank you FTM, I found two of yours, #47 Quick Tips and another. FYI the relearn magnet by OTC is no longer available, as of 4/16/18 or out of stock @ Amazon. My vehicle 2005 Explorer with old metal stems. Excellent info from you FTM as always, thx. I have 3 Fords :)
Technically, Ford claims that transmission is sealed and claim there isn't even a part number or physical way to change the fluid. They are so full of crap. The CVT's from 2009-2021 all have a drain and fill. A novice person with a few simple tools can change it in 30-60 minutes with cleanup time. I used Valvoline Full Synthetic Mercon LV instead of the Motorcraft Mercon LV which is not synthetic. Your call but after talking to the folks at Amsoil, I would have used their low viscosity ATF, but the Valvoline is $5.47 a quart on Amazon. You just need a 10mm Hex socket/bit. Loosen the fill bolt first. Mine was so tight, it was put on by the Hulk I guess. Make sure you can get that off first. My car is a 2012 and I put in 5 quarts.
I love your video. I have a question, my Rv 2015 super duty . Hit the SELECT/RESET button can't find “SETUP MENU” just Trip A and Trip B. Please tech me how to find this "Setup Menu" Thanks
Curiosity got the best of me...I reset from gas to electric, literally 5 minutes later 2006 ford escape hybrid stalled, hubby has tried several things, but won't start. It's been 6mths or so. We really don't want to junk it, if it has a not so expensive solution. PLEASE HELP!
So what was it. I hope you got it fixed. I don't understand you reset from gas to electric? I have 07. It's doing great except when going into 2nd its shifts hard and Veers to left. I'm guessing its low on trans fluid.
Thank you! What brand fluid will help with some pinon noise after changing the fluid? 2011 Runs great after the change but when very lightly turning the wheel side to side you can hear the pinion. Used Valvoline MaxLife Multi-Vehicle Full Synthetic for two refills so far ... gets dark after about 30k here in the hot south using the LV fluid
I changed my transmission fluid (MERCON V) on my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid at 90,800 miles, and my gas mileage appears to have decreased from 28.5 to 27.8. The transmission feels smoother, but I am puzzled by the slightly lower gas mileage. I expected an increase in mpg, not a slight decrease. Any ideas why the mpg is lower?
It may be that the fluid was a bit low, and the new higher fluid level causes a very slight increase in the amount of parasitic drag on the moving bits inside the transmission.
Can bad fluid cause the wrench light? my door actuator for the battery hvac seems to be fine opening and closing fans working as should for the ev, i ordered a filter for the rear EV but if i turn ignition on and wrench is there I can turn it off then on again and it may go away. Could this be the trans fluid also its a 2008 with 162k on it NO other issues
motorhead there were quite a few issues with the zf Batavia cvt in mid 2000s that ford did not address for sure. But time has proven the 05 to 12 hybrid trans. Millions of initial taxi fleet miles and no failures.
Great video like always. Simple, yet precise. Question: While you’re under these cars, what do you do when you see the rust? (This vehicle had surface rust on the components forward of the trans) Do you tell customer to have it replaced, or sand and repaint it to make it last? Just curious.... there’s so much rust underneath these cars. I’m spoiled being in SoCal where the underside always looks dirty but not rusty. THANKS!! 🍻
Question, So only the Hybrid have the eCVT? My wife has an 09 escape not the Hybrid. You are right about maintanece is a big part of making your vehicle last. Thanks for sharing.
I have a 2007 Escape Hybrid with CVT transmission. Lately I've noticed my rpm's just about red lining at higher speeds on the freeway. Almost as if the transmission is slipping or not shifting to lower my rpms. Any advice?
Our 2006 is having the same problem. I'm still working towards the cause, but I did find both output shaft seals leaking so it may be that it is low on fluid and either causing the issue or caused damage and this is the outcome of that damage.
@@foggiapainting It's possible. It's also possible that majority of the leaking happens while the vehicle is in motion. I'd simply check both seals for leakage. I never noticed any wet spots.
I'm not sure I agree with your fluid choice. I'm fairly certain these transmissions use Mercon LV, not Mercon V. LV is for CVT transmissions specifically. Are you certain on your fluid recommendation?
The fluid specified for the Ecvt is mercon V yes, regular cvt transmissions from Ford as found in the Ford Freestyle take a CVT specific fluid whereas Mercon LV is used is most if not all of Fords new conventional 6+ speed transmissions. Your statement is so far off in so many ways please heed my advice I have been a Ford Tech for 15 years I work on Fords 7 days a week I know what I am talking about thanks.
@@FordTechMakuloco Good to know. The reason I made that statement is because my OEM Ford dealer (Anderson Ford in Lincoln, NE told me that my eCVT Escape takes Mercon LV. After more research I see that you are correct. Scary to know a dealer told me the wrong information.
@@TheeFlyingK It would not have hurt that transmission one bit by using Mercon LV. Compare the two, all the info is online side by side. You would have never noticed a difference. Your local dealer was probably recommending what they put in those transmissions because LV is a better product. Most of the guys on the Ford Forums use Valvoline Full Synthetic Mercon LV or Amsoil Low viscosity ATF. Ford acts like they transmissions aren't even serviceable because they are "Sealed" Sealed my ass. Same with the 2015 series F150's with the automatic trans in the EcoBoost, "sealed" Which is complete garbage. As you can see in this video, they are all serviceable but Ford refuses to do the work because they claim there is no way to drain or fill them. Valvoline makes a great Mercon LV Full Synthetic or you can use the low viscosity Amsoil ATF and it will run better than the day you bought it. Ford acts like they put some special additives and magic spells in their fluid. Give me a break. This isn't a dual clutch racing Ferrari for God sakes.
I'm hoping you'll answer this comment or perhaps someone can. I have a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid but I can't seem to find anything on the internet saying what the Fluid Capacity is. I asked the Ford Dealer and they said 4.28 but that can't be right because I have put in 5 and it's still not dribbling out. The vehicle is fairly level. Maybe it's a little over 6 like this SUV in the video. It would be great if someone could answer this for me or let me know where I can find this information on the internet.
@@FordTechMakuloco I was hoping you would say something else. I must have some sort of oddball. You can have 2 Ford Fusion Hybrid both 2010 yet they will have vastly different air filters. Mine has the " Forever Air Filter". (They actually have to be replaced around 100k and it cost like around 200.00 or so. Others have the regular replaceable air filter that might cost 10 to 15 bucks. My transmission says CENMC on the bottom next to the drain plug. Both drain and fill plugs are M18 - 1.5. Both are heads Torx T55 but can easily be mistaken for hex key 10mm. Both heads easily stripped with either tool. The Ford Dealer said those plugs are obsolete and didn't offer a substitute. I replaced them with 3/8 drive heads and remove the magnets and machined them to proper length. ( .475 "). My vehicle is level and it's up on 4 ramps. (2 in the back are modified so they don't hit the frame when you drive up.) I lowered the corner (took the wheel off) and tried to get it to dribble but nothing. Not trying to argue or be a naysayer. I'm a big fan of your videos and always give a thumbs up. I'm just going to have to buy 2 more quarts today. This transmission and plugs although not identical looks very similar to the one in your Hybrid SUV video and might take the 6-7 quarts like that one does. So far 5 quarts and no dribble.
Today I still may try lowering that corner even more to see if it dribbles. I was using a bubble indicator to measure the level but depending on where I set it, it might be wrong. I figure if I can make the car obviously low in that corner and it doesn't dribble that will mean it requires more fluid. If it does dribble that means I didn't have the car level enough.
@@FordTechMakuloco I finally got it to dribble out at somewhere around 5.5 quarts. I even lowered that corner a little more to make sure it needed that amount. Perhaps it's some sort of oddball. I drove it today and it seems to be fine. I was concerned about over filling it. I didn't want to do that. I did drain it like over a couple days because I had to find a retrofit solution to the obsolete drain and fill plugs that are matching. Maybe that's why I had to fill it more. I'm also doing it in the winter with temps below freezing. Not sure if that might make a difference.
I have the owners manual for my 2012 Ford Fusion hybrid, it states 5.3 L. I drained out around 5 liters and pumped in 5 liters which is pretty much the whole bottle. But yeah like you said you filled with around 5 L so you’re good. Shouldn’t be any different for the 2010, same model and body.
Brian, I have a 2013 CMax, is the change procedure similar? I know the transmissions are different . I haven’t tackled this yet, about to hit 100k miles.
I'm also curious about this as well. Apparently the 2013-2017 eCVT's in both the C-Max and Fusion hybrids and Energi's are similar to the Escape transmissions from 2008-2012 just updated so it may be similar but I, too, am curious if there are any good recommendations for these vehicles. My 2013 manual has a recommended transmission fluid change interval of 150k miles.
From what I've researched the early Hybrid models used an Aisin transmission that is the same model that Toyota used in their Hybrids and the 2013+ Ford Hybrids use a Ford built and designed transmission that is very similar to the Aisin units.
Yep. You're right. I was mistaken. The 2013-2017 models have the Ford built HF-35 hybrid eCVT transmissions where I think either 2017 or 2018 model years they have an updated HF-45 which is still built in-house. I was thinking they started the in-house models earlier in the Escape Hybrid's lifetime.
Called the Ford dealer I bought my 2010 Escape Hybrid and they told me the Automatic Transmission fluid is permanent and does not need to be replaced. It also states that in the owner's manual.
Almost as easy on the newer escapes (2013 onwards) - no need for a pump as you fill it from up top, but you do have to check the level when hot and running which is slightly more challenging.
I have my 2005 Escape hybrid at the dealer now. I brought it in for a CVT Oil change. They are saying this hybrid transmission is "not serviceable". What are they talking about!?!? This vidoe makes it seem like this is something they can do for me. Are they just not trained on hybrids??
According to FORD, the transmission is "sealed". The lubrication is designed to last the lifetime of the car. You should just drive it til it makes a crunching sound, then walk away, marveling at the wisdom of FORD. The transmission will have lasted exactly as long as the car!
From the Owners Manual of my 2015 Ford Escape Hybrid "4. Using any transmission fluid other than those that meet the recommended specification may cause internal transmission damage. Do not use Motorcraft Continuously Variable Chain Type Transmission Fluid (blue). This vehicle uses only Motorcraft MERCON LV ATF.
,,, I need a video on a 2013 model Ford Escape all wheel drive,,, for transmission fluid change transfer case fluid change rear differential fluid change,,, radiator drain and thermostat replacement,,. Do they even have power steering fluid,,. ??? What else do I need to do at the major preventive maintenance at 60000 miles,,,. ???
I have a 2009 hybrid with 289000 miles on it. I have never changed the fluid in it. Not sure if it was ever done before I bought it. If I change it will it cause the transmission to fail.
My 2009 has 276,000 and the same deal. I've had since new and just figured that since Ford did not mention it I don't need to do it. However, in the last thousand miles I've heard "the noise from my CVT but ya know, I've not sure I care...
Please help!!! I have a 1999 E350 5.4, it runs bad. # 2 cylinder misfire and #3 There was 4 misfire and it was running lean, so I put a new fuel rail and injectors all the way around. Then it ran better for 30 minutes. It shatters really bad in overdrive and less you give it gas. Very low power, i've changed coils and spark plugs. Number 2 cylinder you can tell by The spark plug was running rich, not the other ones. Also the number two cylinder coil boot look deformed in the middle like it got hot. But the van has never overheated. The egr Value was full of nasty crap so I changed that and the thing that has high side and low side that has little tubes the hook up to the exhaust manifold. New pcv value. I knew propane and strong for them to see if there was a leak in their intake and it did not show any vacuum or intake leaks. As you are driving it you can feel it at normal for a split second go back to running like crap then do that back-and-forth. But when it's in overdrive it shatters really bad, i've also put a new mass airflow sensor. Now only 3 codes come up and egr exhaust flow restricted and #2 and #3 misfire. There was 19 codes before I started, I'm just frustrated so bad right now. I've tried so many things now. So if you have any suggestions please, please!!! Let me know.

FordTechMakuloco is this the same for a 2008 escape awd v6
Can you please make a video on how to change transmission fluid on the CFT30 CVT in the ford five hundred and freestyle
I'm glad to hear that these transmissions are so reliable. From what I'm hearing the new Ford Maverick is going to use something similar.
Thx much for the vid. My #1 ford resource! Remember the PTU for you awd folks!!! I believe every 30k
Thanks for all You do for us! You Make A Difference in our lives.
Just want to say thank you so much for all the information you give us!!!
I was told that the transmission is sealed and should be never be changed. And said not to let anyone talk you into it!
wow
Would be great to see your custom pump set up and other mechanic's tips and tricks you use in the shop on an upcoming video. I always want to know how you stay so clean wrenching on cars!
I have a video on the pump cart. I should have that video out wednesday.
Best video I've seen on this subject and recommended item list thank you
Thanks for sharing. I am about to buy an 09 Escape Hybrid. Will do this in the very near future.
Excellent video, Straight to the point, good video angles. Thanks 1000 likes👍
Awesome Toyota design ECVT on a Ford. I think even the 2020 Escape Hybrid uses the same design !
Is this the same in a 08 Mercury Mariner hybrid I was told that I was going to have to remove part of the transmission to get to the transmission filter
Should be the same
Same, The MARINER, TRIBUTE,
Escape, " HYBRID",
It's all the same power train, the only difference is the interior with the buttons and knobs and what not....
Thank you Sir, just did my Daughter’s hybrid , piece of cake!!
Hi
Thanks for the tips. How often should we change the cvt fluid ? (2010 escape hybrid)
Thanks
Every 60k miles
Will a general automotive shop take and dispose of the old transmission fluid?
Yes
Great instructions. Followed today and it worked out great. Thank you.
Does a 2009 FEH need its transmission filter replaced? Or is it not possible to replace it?
Mine has a small leak on the passenger's CV axle, coming from the transmission, are there any special toola needed to replace the seal (5m6z-1177-ra)?
Basically like a snowmobile, or a Polaris ATV, except with electronic controls. :)
is a 2015 mkz hybrid the same fluid?
Hello, I wanted to know if it would help me to send a 2007 Ford Escapep
I find it interesting that you recommend pennzoil for oil in the ecoboost, but you use motorcraft everything else.
Pure Plus Natural Gas base oil, no one even comes close.
I have a 2009 Mercury Mariner hybrid that I only drive a few times per week. It hasn't reached 30,000 miles yet so I'm wondering if, like the motor oil, the transmission fluid is one of those things that should be changed every few years or so, regardless of the mileage.
wow 4 miles a week on average since 2009?
You should anyway
Is valvoline dextron Vi / Mercon LV an OK substitute ?
Great video. Discovered that my quarts bottles had a gallon sized opening therefore the recommended pump was too small
Same problem for me. I had an old denatured alcohol bottle that I dumped out and used it to pump. My 2010 FEH took about 6 quarts, even though the owners manual said 5.4
Can you give us any help on the dreaded P0A7C?
Thanks for the 7qt info.
Jim Miller
Check the tone ring if it cracked or broken for ABS warning light.
There are video on UA-cam.
Jim it might be a PCM issue
JIM, +, go to each wheel and check out the--" ABS sensor" and harness make sure you don't have any frayed wires, Do a good, Thural VISION INSPECTION, use a flashlight, take your time and look at the - "star ring Hub toner" , where ABS sensor is detecting a PULSE, look for any damage as you turn the wheel,
Also, while you're there, clean out the sensor with "brake cleaner" sometimes if you have too much metal debris- build-up on the sensor, it can ACT UP....
Thank you for video. I have 21 escape plug in hydride with cvt transmission, oil change procedure the same or they made it more complicated?
I'm having electric problems in my hybrid. Is there a knowledgeable mech who might be able to check it out in southern Cal. area that you might know of???
I have a 07 escape hybrid with 178 thousand miles, don't think trans fluid was changed for years,do you recommend changing it now or will it hurt the trans?
Change it as soon as you can. It will not hurt your transmission.
Is this the same on the new escapes with the ecvt??
If it hasn't been changed in a long time, or not at all, at 190,000 miles will draining and filling it cause it to fail? I know regular automatics are like that.
On these no concern at all.
@@FordTechMakuloco Sshould I do it warm or cold engine, and sitting for awhile for fluid settlement

Is there a way to just check the level?
1. park the car on the level serface and wait it's cool 2. turn the steering wheel all the way to the left or just take it off 3. take the filler bolt off, you should be able to see the fluid if it's full.

I used the Mercon LV in my 2008 escape hybrid, is this a really huge problem?!!?
I have this exact same question. I bought Mercon LV for my 2013 Ford Fusion hybrid and have a ton left that I wanna use on my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. I thought the 2008-2012 Escapes were the same?
Did you have any issues using Mercon LV on your 2008 Escape??
Mercon LV is specified for my 2009 Escape Hybrid
I have a 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid with 161k and did a drain and fill based on this video at 140k. Now I think there is some slipping happening now. The rpms will stay just under 3k at 70mph. Any thoughts?
Kyle Cornelison how did it hold up ?
did it slip I have one one with same mileage
I think at 70 mi/hr that seems about right for the RPM on these.
@@nocarsgo23 agree rpm's are right going 70mph. you have no issue.
Is it possible that the transmission needs replacing with so few miles?
any leaks? have you fixed it?
Hi Brian.
Curious - Why no thread sealant and new washer for the drain plug in this scenario?
Thanks.
No need
My 2007 Hybrid sometimes slips when it’s real cold (like 10 degrees or below) and it sounds like my front wheel bearings are loud. Are they related? I’m going to change/check the trans fluid, but is there also a filter that needs changing with this procedure?
👍🇨🇦 awesome video, I use Amsoil low viscosity
Long shot but, I'm looking to buy a used 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid but already know there's an issue with the A/C and power steering. A/C I could care less about, and power steering from what I understood was fixable by swapping out a sensor.
However after talking with the selling, he tells me that because it's electric there's no fluids so...you gotta change out the whole assembly? Still cheap to buy from a scrapyard but, not sure if this is right or if he's mistaken and I'm able to just swap out the sensor that seems to be an issue? Thanks! :)
Hi, does the engine need to be turned on or off to check the proper fluid level? Thanks
I have a 2006 Escape Hybrid with 105k miles.. I bought it with 93k miles. Not being sure if it has been changed already, would you recommend changing it now?
Yes
Where can I find the drain plug for the front differential TNA..
I want to say the same about my 2017 Rogue but I know better than wishing for the impossible. LOL.
That's what the Ford dealer next to me said. They let them go 150,000-200,000 miles before changing the trans fluid
Is there no filter to replace on these transmissions?
no
if i start hearing a clunk at higher rpms, could bad trans fluid be the cause? I started hearing a clunk yesterday, parked it and inspected the suspension, rock solid except for worn front brakes, 195000 miles, just bought not sure if fluid was changed.
Thanks dude!!!, Much appreciate
your expertise..!!, 👍👍👍💯
Where do you put the jack in the front?
On the pinch welds like any other unibody vehicle.
IT DOES NOT!
I did a part search on a Ford website and another auto part website and it calls for Mercon LV in my 2009 Escape Hybrid
But they are not belt or chain driven.
do you have any videos about changing the TSS and OSS on the 11-15 explorers and the fluid change procedure for the PTU on AWD models?
Off topic but can you make a video of the TPMS?
I have many.
What about 2017 fusion hybrid cvt transmission
How many mile you must be changed
Is there a transmission filter that needs replaced too?
no

Is it safe to do this at 150,000 miles for possibly the 1st time on a 2006 ford escape hybrid?

STEEVE DAVID Nicolas the hybrid ones are bulletproof. Very rare to have any issues.
daryl turcott thanks for the info, I'm familiar with nissan cvt which are trash by the way, don't know much about ford cvt's
STEEVE DAVID Nicolas time will tell get an extended warranty asap. Ford rarely makes good on major defects. Shalom
motorhead there were quite a few issues with the zf Batavia cvt in mid 2000s that ford did not address for sure. But time has proven the 05 to 12 hybrid trans. Millions of initial taxi fleet miles and no failures.
STEEVE DAVID Nicolas a shame about Nissan, I really wanted a cube, but was scared off.

Question: While you’re under these cars, what do you do when you see the rust? (This vehicle had surface rust on the components forward of the trans) Do you tell customer to have it replaced, or sand and repaint it to make it last? Thank you for the info.
@@TheeFlyingK I would imagine that in my case if the output shafts were leaking I would see an oil stain in my driveway. Dont you think?
4.28 quarts is correct
(2 in the back are modified so they don't hit the frame when you drive up.) I lowered the corner (took the wheel off)
and tried to get it to dribble but nothing.
Thank you so much 🙏
How many liters of oil I need to do the change?
Brian, I have a 2013 CMax, is the change procedure similar? I know the transmissions are different . I haven’t tackled this yet, about to hit 100k miles.
Justin LaNoue I have the same question.
Yup cause no fluid breaks down ever. You want to change it yes but not as often as a clutch based system.
Using any transmission fluid other than those that meet the recommended specification may cause

There was 4 misfire and it was running lean, so I put a new fuel rail and injectors all the way around.
