Dude you just save me $150 +. Ill be honest i got scared and got motorcraft but i used your exact procedure and the difference in shift is significantly different. Before this it would kick when shift to reverse but now is buttery smooth.
Just flushed mine completely and changed the gear oil in both differentials. 120 k on my mercury mariner 2010 model. You can't even feel it shift now it's amazing
Was your front ptu real yellow, mine looked that way. Three changes before colour was to me normal, my transmission change Sunday coming. Have good weekend. 🇨🇦
Wow this looks easier than an oil change with no filter to mess with. Back in the day on the old cars the entire tranny pan had to be dropped and spring loaded filter replaced inside and new gasket put on. I was going to have it done at a shop but now I plan to do it myself. Thanks! My 09 only had 50,000 miles on it when I bought it last fall, and now I'm up to 57,000. My fluid is still nice and pink and clean but it shifts a little rough and sometimes does a hard jerky downshift when I get off the gas a little. According to the service records, it's never been changed. I'm hoping freshening it up helps it operate more smoothly. The dealership quoted me $359 to do it there! Even if I buy 2 or 3 gallons and flush it through a few times I'll still be saving $300 or more. But as clean as mine is, I'm hoping once is enough to help it. Now the one question I have is if I switch to full synthetic like you did, will that mix alright with the remaining old fluid? Excellent video, thanks again for posting!
Thanks for the comment! Yeah it’s not a bad job and certainly not worth $300+ to do!!! Yeah you should be fine, same fluid just synthetic and I didn’t have any issues. Should hopefully resolve the shifting issues!!
Great video! Some of these take LV and others take Mercon V. It actually says on the dip stick which to use and though the engine is the same, my dipstick is a different style and in another location. Very thorough video and I had to rock my head at every fast forward moment. Something about that smoooooth sax.
I have to do that too..but I have another problem..the front radiator is leaking..it is dirty and I coudn't undertand where this comes from until have watched a few videos here..thanks
Thanks Great video. Our escape was also in a wreck and the fluid leaked out of the trans cooling lines. Escape went into limp mode. Engine runs fine. Once I get it filled back up with trans fluid do you think the limp mode will clear?
I just did mine and 5 quarts came out but I only had the 4 qt bottle on hand and no extra. I get about 1/8" on the very bottom of the dip stick but nothing near the full range. Will it hurt anything to drive 15-20 miles to town to get another quart? I live out in the country nothing closer.
Thanks for the video it helped me a lot but i have another question i have a escape with the same engine 2.5L and i changed the engine oil i put a galon on it but the oil lipstick its barely in the first dot, do i have to put more oil o what, i also checked the engine and didn't see any oil leak, Blue smoke neither
So I have a 2010 ford escape, 150k miles, 4 cyl and in the almost 4 years that I’ve owned it I can’t recall us ever changing the fluid, although now it’s having problems shifting into that 6th gear (idk much about cars so I’m sorry if that doesn’t 100% make sense.) idk if any of the previous owners changed any of the fluid either 😅 would I risk damaging my transmission if I changed it at this point? (ie slipping or failing completely) I’m supposed to go on a 6 hour road trip later this week and don’t want my car to have any problems 🥲 any advice would be greatly appreciated
I have the 2010 2.5L it shifts hard around 40mph, slipps a little near 40mphs. Would you recommend a fluid change? It has 120k never changed the fluid.
I’m not aware that these have a transmission filter. Doing some research I believe it is internal to the transmission and not meant to be replaced. The case would have to be split.
@@matt-diy bro I can’t thank you enough I was at 160,000 miles. Pretty much the same thing on this vehicle. And most vehicles. We are changing and flushing. You have to flush because you can’t get all of the fluid out at once.
@@bradleymaravalli2851 I see. In my opinion a flush would mean you are doing multiple changes over and over so I would say a flush is much better, but a change is better than nothing for sure. Hope this helps!

Do you recommend cycling through the gears before adding more transmission fluid?
Yes!

Yes, make sure the level is between the marks when the engine is not running.
Can you use Lucas even if you don't have a leak will it help?
I’d be careful, sometimes it will but I’m careful about pouring things into the transmission.
Nice video👍, I am curious if there is transmission filter to change on these cars?
Never mind, scrolled down 5 comments and discovered that you already answered that question!😁
My car has almost 300,000. I dont know if it ever had a transmission change but can i replace 1qt to make it run smooth?
Chances are slim if it has been that long but if you have nothing to lose try it!!

No worries on it causing more problems. I would do a few drain and fills until the fluid coming out is closer to red color and it should shift better!
I appreciate it my mans. Definitely helpful.
How would you go about disposing the old fluid? Also a great, concise video!
Thank you! I take it to my local advance auto for free disposal.
that looked like an oil change when you removed plug. Zero reddish tint.
Yeah it was definitely time for a change!
Does a 2.3 08 escape need mercon V or mercon LV ??
Not sure but it will say in your manual.
Very helpful video. Are you familiar with shift solenoids and the replacement of them in the escape?
I am not unfortunately.
Is it the same for the V6 motor? I got an 09 Ford Escape V6 and it’s low on tranny fluid and I want to drain and put new tranny fluid in
Not sure on that sorry!

how you explained it....thanks for the info a the step by step

Probably not it needs to be specifically for this transmission like I show in the video.

You can find them at most auto parts stores or even walmart sometimes.

As long as it will work for this car’s requirements, brand won’t matter.

do you have to change the transmission filter fluid when you change the fluid?

its best to do it every 30,000 miles,
