I still get positive comments from young men and I'm 74! Makes me laugh, but it is nice to be told by several that you're "cute" or "you're still good looking" etc despite the white hair. I don't look 74, but I don't look 40 either! Lol.
I got married at 42, to a man 7 years younger than I was. We're still married 27 years later. I find that men who are 40+ are generally looking for women who are 15 years younger than they are; they want an ego boost. Younger men don't need an ego boost. I've known lots of younger men who married middle aged women - with children, too. We aren't talking about women with money, either.

I’m a 60 year old retired attorney and have always had a conservative style. In my younger days I loved Liz Claiborne but they were eventually replaced by Ralph Lauren in the shops I go to. Ralph Lauren is definitely my go to now, I love the brand.

Although I love their higher end styles that you see on the runway, my clothing budget may provide a few opportunities to purchase their Polo collection. This was a valuable presentation on how we can use what we have in our wardrobes to create the Polo aesthetic. I visited their flagship store on Madison Ave. in NYC and it is an absolutely beautiful experience. Thank you for your lovely outfits.

I really enjoyed this video because this is my style. This is how I dress and it was reassuring to see that most of these items are in my closet. I practically live in white pants come summer. Paired with denim or navy or rust, the combos are endless. Thanks for providing fresh ideas!
As a boomer , I was " preppy " before RL did his first full women's clothing line in 1972 & later , LB's " Preppy Handbook " pub. 1980 ! 😅 The style has always been classic - think Katharine Hepburn's take on the menswear look decades earlier . RL blended the US east coast " old money " w/ the Brit. " country / landed gentry / horsey set " styles & later added US western for variation . Also , it goes fr. feminine to masculine or a lovely blend of both . All in all , a very relaxed , easy to interpret & duplicate & comfortable to wear . And , don't forget to always wear your pearls - better yet if they're a family heirloom ! 🤗
Me too! I'm Irish and when RL first came out in the 70s it was pretty much what we had worn as teens and early 20s in London. Quality and style doesn't really change too much just some accessories and the way clothes are worn. Good stuff Gemma😊
My then 12-13 yr old daughter used to wear the preppy style on Fridays when uniforms weren’t worn to school. That style has dropped down to her daughter on the same non uniform days🥰

My two favourite designers are Ralph Lauren and Oscar de la Renta. Their designs flatter women instead of making them (us!) look almost freakish. Understated elegance, classic cuts and colours, rarely “trendy” but always “right.” RL pieces, whether Polo or Chaps (or their more budget-friendly alternatives) are a great example of how to build a classic capsule wardrobe.
I used to buy Oscar de la Renta nightgowns. Absolutely loved them?

RL look My favorite. I have about 6 or 7 denim button down shirts-lost count :) They are in different weights, sleeve length and shades of blue. Got most of them at the thrift store :).

Gemma, thanks for this video. It sure was helpful. I have a lot of those shirts, trousers, jackets in the right colours but hadn't put them together like that. I hung my blue striped shirt on a hanger with a red jacket over it and went to show my husband to see if he liked it. I got immediate approval! You must save people a lot of time and money. I am saving the video so I can go back and check on combinations again. BTW you look really good in your outfits!
Luv RL and his classic Americana look. I have many of his pieces. I have a small collection of his handbags. They have minimal branding and are excellent quality. You don't see them everywhere. Great video. 😊

🤔Trend led or not, I'm kinda loving the khaki beige ✂️ cropped trench. Have a sexy black Burberry of London duster trench that I adore❤, but it's such a heavy weight even w/o the thick liner😰. It's perfect for 50°F, but as soon as the mercury rises🌡in LA😎 it gets put away until min. late Fall/Winter.
🛒On my 2nd hand radar is the 🪖army green field jacket. And, also now on the look out👁👁 for the full range of tan accessories (belts, bags, shoes, & riding boots). Like the properties of nude shoes to lengthen the vertical line↕️, but they tend to strike me MORE as frumpy👵dumpy.
Prefer to wear all my button up shirts as a light shacket (or knotted open). ⏳️As a curvy (not obese) hourglass, buttoning & tucking is always a nightmare😱.
😘Do like the bold red cardi over the blue striped shirt. Enjoy that subtle collar, cuff, & tail "pop". On the hunt for a red sweater vest instead〰️need a way to tone down the stripes. The grey jogger set w/the striped shirt is sporty 💫perfection💫 in my book. Sadly, the handsome herringbone pieces are a No Go for my climate😂.
🤓Watched two other stylists saying cable knits are OUT. Such a beautiful knit is NEVER out of fashion. 🥰Loved the highly feminine trio pictured here w/varying lengths of skirts. Only own one cropped lightweight cashmere jumper though. It's purple to go w/my purple pencil skirt and also a fabulous floaty black/purple/orange/green floral skirt.
😁Prefer skirts over trousers once the Sun🌞 starts to roast us🥵.

I love classic styles, but have to have color, too. I add red a lot…red blazer or red and white striped shirt/tshirt. Have a beautiful red leather tote. Add whatever color(s) you love! I started sewing again primarily to get classic styles in linen (my favorite fabric) and in color.
This is why I like shopping in charity shops, you can find all sorts of interesting patterns and colours on the clothing and they're often better made than new clothing if they were made in the 80s or 90s.

Good job. Being a Southern American girl I have always loved preppy. Unfortunately I now live hundreds of miles from my favorite Ralph Lauren outlet in the Florida pan handle. Over the last year I've thrifted a Ralph Lauren denim shirt, a Lauren trench coat and a Lauren tan wool overcoat. That's how I do Ralph Lauren on a budget. $12.99 each!

Not a big fan of the Ralph Lauren look. I like the look Lands End does! Plus, I think your color combinations and the outfits you put together look much better than any of the Ralph Lauren looks. I like the one with the red cardigan but Ralph Lauren is really overdone at this point. There are so many other classic options out there; some with a better twist.
Land's End is my go to. I stay away from anything remotely trendy, however. I want to be able to wear my clothes for 15 years, if they last that long, and yes, I have LE sweaters that are that old.
Agree 100%. My pet peeve is the otherwise lovely navy blazer with the hideous logo on the front pocket. Plus it’s in every outlet mall. I love the preppy classic clothes, but no logos!
