  • I came in too fast and look how far I went down the runway in ground effect.

You were moving on final! Mooneys are tricky like that. Took me a bit to nail them with consistency, good luck!

Power to idle over the fence would have helped.

If too fast level it off at about 3' over the runway AN CUT THE FLAPS TO HALF. I CUT THEM ALL. End of floating.

I don't see the problem if you have the runway. I would have not brought it down to 65 knots with a 19 knot gust. I would have put a wheel down and skated before that. Lucky a gust didn't pick you up and slammed you down when it abated. 18 year E driver here.

Gust factor was just 7 knots, 12G19. Apologies for confusing caption.

is your airspeed indicator indeed calibrated in knots? I have 20J as well with identical AI, but mine shows mph. I watched your AI and it was showing around 85 which would be perfectly normal landing speed if it is MPH. I always cross the numbers between 80 and 90 mph and no float

Hi Yuri. Yes, knots. 85 knots is way too fast to land a Mooney, indeed. 65-72 knots works well with mine, depending on load. My stall speed dirty is about 52 knots indicated.

When i picked up my m20c i was told to land ot at 100mph, flaps up but watch it because it floats a lot. Really?!? No wonder they wanted to get rid of it. I later found that 65mph and full flaps does the trick.

They are floatey if you're fast, no doubt. I'd be just about stalling with full flaps and gear at 65mph in my J, though.
