I missed my invite in the mail ;). I thought this video was excellent. Great tips and everything made perfect sense. I’ve only been to one organized tasting and 2 of the 3 of us were “experienced” and even I benefited greatly from many of the things the host provided which were similar to what you provided. A flavour wheel would’ve been a nice bonus as that’s still something I struggle with expressing. Nice work Paul!
Great tips! I'd like to do some tastings in the future and there were a number of things that I hadn't considered. I'm curious as to how the six whiskies were received by a group of mostly inexperienced whisky drinkers. Were some generally liked more than others? Thanks for the video!
Jon Wilkinson the Springbank was almost universally disliked, everyone liked the Dalwhinnie I think, but the surprise of the night was the Ardbeg. The vast majority really liked it, which was a shocker to me.
Jon Wilkinson man, I had the CR of the Kelpie and traded it. Not a huge Ardbeg fan to begin with and considering Kelpie is the seaweed/moss the collect to make Kelpie I was sure it would be the worst. Since then I’ve had the Grooves and really liked it 🤔.
@@robklompstra2976 I think you are confusing Kelpie with kelp. A Kelpie is a mythological creature in Gaelic folklore, often described as a black horse-like creature that would devour people who wandered too close to the lochs (the Loch Ness Monster is a Kelpie). Kelp is a type of seaweed. In any case, I served them the non-committee release version and they loved it.
Excellent video! Loved the tips and particularly the very useful practical suggestions about the score card and aroma wheel. Thank you.

Believe me, if I had the space and funding, I would have invited a lot more people!
Is there anyway you can share a link to your scorecard and flavor wheel?

@@dapperdrams5512 Interesting! The Kelpie was apparently great pick. I missed it, but I'm told it is more sweet and accessible than most Ardbegs.

Dapper Drams maybe it’s the briny seaweed description it’s often given I was thinking about. I wasn’t aware a Kelpie was a mythical seahorse, lol.
