It’s easy to pay big money, have a guide and a lodge to fall back on with absurd animal density and find success. Those “hunts” pale in comparison to the grind of a solo public land pursuit of a giant. Kudos to you Samong. Your effort is honorable buddy. I’ve done solos myself in the Pac NW, and although I’ve shot larger bucks, the Muley I got on a solo public land grind in the snow of Montana still ranks as a top hunt for me. This is a great example of what it’s really like.

This was very enjoyable to watch I commend you for your efforts my only question is why you spent 12 days in the same exact spot most guys that hunt elk are very mobile calling and moving to where they hear the elk respond glassing valleys and being on the move

@@mikekupetsky6879there are many different strategies for hunting and knowing that Boomer 6 was a frequenting that particular spot that he knew he had a wind advantage in it just made sense to stay in. In that dark timber it’s also not really an option to spot and stalk because of how dense the terrain is as well as how loud you are traversing, they’ll hear and smell you way before you lay eyes on them.

@@josephbaker4319 Hunted several times like this in Colorado and Montana alone, all public and no guide and have killed some extream nice animals. Being alone is like paradise. But I'm used to it since when I was 12 years old when I started hunting alone is southern WV. My dad drew me a picture of a couple ridges and hollers and an old strip mine to hunt, and thats how I got to where I was suposed to go and to get back home. Imagine a 1965 TOPO Map. LOL. I guess thats why I have never got lost in the mountains, and never needed a compass. Some how I just know where I am and how to return to camp.

Really enjoyed this 2 part series. I truly mean it when I say thank you for taking us along. The effort & mental strength it takes to not only grind out a hunt like this, but to film & put together a great story is absolutely admirable. Keep at it man. I look forward to seeing your future hunts.

I like that you show what it’s really like to hunt. The ups and downs. The weather. The fact that you don’t always get what you came for. You showed a great respect for nature by not taking a cow when you could have. Now there are two more elk in the world. It’s a great video. You’ll get him next year.

Good luck in 2024!

I hunted the same buck for six years here in western Iowa named him "Top Hat". The last three years I watched as regressed but still remained the king. One cold December evening and I let the Knight muzzle loader and Barnes sabot put in some work and now Top Hat watches me write this from his perch on my wall. My point is you are not alone in your obsession and love of this great sport. Thanks very much for sharing.

I've been hunting and fishing for 54 years I enjoy your videos almost as much as being in the field. Keep up the good work and never lose your passion for hunting, fishing, and just being in the outdoors. Remember this, with big game hunting the fun is over when you pull the trigger, all the rest is work. You may not bring an animal home every hunt but you're building a lifetime of memories so you can always look back in your mind and relive those wonderful days and nights in God's Creation. Happy Thanksgiving to you and the whole family.

Awesome adventure thanks for taking the time to video it for us. Couple of ideas for the future... take some 1 inch Gorilla duct tape along, wrap a couple feet around a leg of your tripod if you don't want to carry a small roll. It can be used to fix many things like the holes in your screen and tent fabric. Thanks again and way to gut it out.

It was just the opposite for him I am sure. he was fine except when he got wet and That will kill your spirits real quick, because if the temps suddenly drop, you could find yourself in a life and death situation. Alwasy take half a dozen large plastic heavy duty lawn bags in your pack, to store things inside of it needed and a small 5x8 tarp. Only on one of my solo hunts I got wet, just like him, and I said never again.

Great solo hunt! Being an ethical hunter you will lower your chances of success by far but you also show great respect for the animals. I went to wyoming this year it took me 7 years to draw a archery only any elk tag. I had plenty of opportunities to shoot cows and small bulls but i was after a giant nicknamed Sampson by the locals. I had him twice once at 38 yards and anither time at 42 yards. One time to dark for a clean ethical shot( dark timber) and tge second time to many tree branches. Passed up several 5 points and half dozen rag horns n spikes also cows. Had the time of my life but chose to hold out. I had tag soup for supper the other day. It was pretty fullfilling because i will always have the memories of a great hunt. Keep true to yourself and the animals you hunt. Dont ever get greedy and take a bad shot, you will regret it.

Wow! The 2 part series was excellent. The story telling was excellent. Very real; like the frustration you were feeling when everything was wet. I sure as heck have been there after too many days in a row. I appreciate that these 2 videos were "how it is" when solo archery hunting for elk. There is nothing better than being alone in the woods. On the other end of the spectrum, elk hunting is extremely, physically demanding. It seems we are always hiking uphill. We see more cool stuff, like the bears, mountain lion scream, etc. when we just sit. I love it when after sitting for hours, the forest seems to accept you. Little birds will perch on branches right by my head, I've had squirrels chase each other and literally , run right over me, animals will cruise by sometimes just feet away. 1 time I felt a presence and when I slowly turned to look, it was 2 does with the closest 1 literally a few feet from me trying to smell me. Another time the same thing happened and as luck would have it, it was a bull! I commend you for sitting days on end. It doesn't sound tough but it's tough.
And, kudos to you for passing on the wet cow. We always pass on animals if there are youngins involved. I'm gonna check out your other videos. It sure seems like a lot of work and forethought producing these videos. I should learn to use trail cams.

Pretty cool what you see in the woods when you are quiet and by yourself. You got some awesome experiences with the lion and bear regardless if you got a kill.

Iv'e been hunting several times high up in Colorado alone from a week to 10 days. Its amazing to be out their alone and hard work when you get bull down. But I always go with 2 high quality tents, small and larger and a small tarp to cover myself and sleeping bag inside the tent with the heat. The other small tent is for all other gear and food. It never swets inside that tent because its always cold, so everything stays dry. It can rain for 3 days or more up there or dump 2 feet of snow on you overnight. So take those short snowshoes, and if its after Sept 15th take that plastic snow shovel from your gargage, because its a lifesaver to clear 12 inches of snow from the tent walls and a place for you to stand out in front without getting your gloves all wet digging.

Great effort in both the hunt and video. I do that same hunt here in ID every year. Drew a great rifle tag last year, backpacked the entire to week season. Saw some nice bulls, had a couple in my lap, enjoyed every minute of and didn't pull the trigger. Keep up the good work!

Great video series, really enjoyed it. Thanks for dragging all that camera gear around, LOL. I've got a two week elk hunt coming up in 2024 in Idaho so your trip is quite relevant to me as this one I'll be doing solo. Great job!

That area and wallow sure looks like the area I hunted for several years with my brother. The trees in the wallow match what I remember, but I may have forgotten.

Great show. You are one tough cookie. I have truck camped for hunts for years, but never backpacked to a hunt. I would have needed coffee.

Bought an EXO mountain bag cause of your review series. Continued watching for great hunting content. Love seeing other people out there on solo backpack public land hunts; much respect. Big love from BC Canada.
