The last one??? I get anxious when calculating my commission prices because I'm afraid I'll be off by a few dollars but 8 GRAND vs 500??? DUDE 😭
Just ask them how much for 26 characters
I never thought i would see someone worse at math than me thats not a 6 year old with brain damage
Frankly I just think he's a greedy scammer, using bad math into order to get more for his work then what it is actually worth and hoping his commissioners are even worse at math then he is.
My girlfriend told me about a former boss of hers who used to cheat her employees by doing some weird calculation that doesn't work to calculate overtime. My girlfriend explained it to me and it turns out that any hour over 40 was not calculated to time and a half as promised, but rather half time. So, if you were making 10 dollars per hour, after 40 hours, you would make 400 dollars. If you worked 41 hours, you would make 405 instead of 420. She and I named this type of awful and convoluted math after her. Say her name was Mary (it wasn't, but she did have a name that started with M) we would call it Mary Math. Her actual name was actually a little more unique, so I don't want to use it in public.
I was a 6yo with brain damage once and failed math in high school and even I'm not that bad lmao /lh
Oh geez that last one got me pissed, it’s not only the blatant miscalculations and inability to listen to the person PAYING YOU, but him being like “this is how this works, but you probably don’t know that” idk if he’s just dense, in the wrong crowd or trying to rob people, but nah
The delusions are crazy, I’ve been drawing since like 2015 and if someone were to commission me I’d be fine with like $5 max I get so nervous lmao
I don't think it's a miscalculation at all. He's saying it's 50% more, not 50% of the base price. He seems pretty aware of that and repeats it over and over again.
It's a ridiculous pricing scheme, and his ad is wrong, but I don't think he's making any 'mistakes' at all.
It shows at 21:45 his commission sheet, which says “+50% of base price” so if his regular rate is $30, it’d be $15 per extra character
If that was a mistake he needs to fix his commission sheets, because then he’s just lying
16:25 This whole bit reminds me of a conversation I had with an ex.
They were trying to bake a cake, and the cakes kept coming out wrong each time. Too sloppy. Too doughy. Too sugary. An hour and a half of back and forth because they didn't understand that one over four was a quarter, and not 'add somewhere between 'one to four eggs', or 'one to four cups of flour'.
💀💀
oh god
18:00 oh god, his multiplying the total price with each extra character
Ya. Holy shit.
That’s not how “several artists” calculate their price :D
that one made me so irrationally confused lmao
The complete lack of understanding (or even listening to them at all) makes me so mad omg
@Irish_Enderman real, how are they gonna expect money out of this person if they cant take criticism, and amend mistakes ? ive commissioned other artists but never gave across someone like.. that?? before
That first picture, and the confidence the poster had, was a good boost to my resistence against impostor syndrome. If they can stand so confidently behind their art, I can too lol
You sure you even have real imposter syndrome are you sure your brain isn’t is tricking you into the thought that you are thinking your art is bad
amogus
A common saying among writers is "I may not write the best, but Stephen King got published!"
She’s actually sold many of them, including that one, I’ve seen them on marketplace before and it’s just crazy
@@DarcOne13 Stephen King said at one point to just keep writing, the world could end, the skies might turn black and everything could be on fire but you gotta keep writing.
Holy i was not expecting delusional math
the exponential commissions art growth 😭😭😭
the biggest issue I see with the painted car is there's no gloss overcoat to protect the paint.
Thank God! A little paint thinner and elbow grease and it can still be saved.
Maybe they used a matt coat? Honestly it's hard to believe that after putting many hours of their life into the painting they wouldn't try to preserve it
@@PrototypeSpaceMonkey Yeah not for $125 000 though. Just buy a different Corolla where you don't have to pay an incomprehensibly inflated price just to have the supposed reason for that high price come off the first time you take it to the car wash.
@@PrototypeSpaceMonkeyI dunno, I actually very much do like it. I wouldn't buy it, but I like it. There's nothing to "save" here. Some people like this, some don't. Ah, the people online these days.
10:27 omg that John Mulaney impression was ON POINT
Two types of artists:
1) great artists who hate their art
2) these people
Robins john mulaney impression is actually pretty good lol
Looking for this comment. His John Mulaney is terrifyingly good. Is Robin .....John? 😁
They were calculating the price like a compounding loan.
They probably took out so many payday advance loans that three forgot what normal math looks like.
Bro, i haven't even started commissions yet, and even I A 16 YEAR OLD WHO IS BAD AT MATH knows better than to do whatever tf the dude at the end was doing😭😭😭
And ngl i feel like this person knows what they're doing and are just trying to scam people who dont understand the pricing is incorrect
i literally know 9 year olds smarter than that idiot of an artist
The car seriously doesn't look that bad! For being a painted car, the detail actually looks really pretty! I might genuinely buy a regular art piece like that from them! If it was just an actual art piece, not a drivable car, it'd be amazing. Honestly, I'd be terrified for anyone to drive it and possibly scratch the paint because she obviously put quite a bit of work in to it and it is pretty.
It does look great, but i think the point argued in the video was that the car is worth something like ⅒ of the asking price and the Paint, while it looks good, isn't sufficient for the car rising to ten times it's value.
I think the price is ridiculous though, even for the artwork. Don't get me wrong, the artwork is gorgeous and I can totally see someone paying thousands to have an artist do something like that to their car but I highly doubt you could sell a nearly 20 year old Toyota for anywhere near what a brand new Toyota is worth, let alone for over $100,000. It's not delusional because of the art, it's just delusional because nobody is going to buy a 20 year old Toyota for $100,000 no matter what you do to it.
Never let an artist do math. Ever.
I may have failed algebra, but at least I retained enough of it to know how to calculate commission prices properly. That last person was either abominably stupid, a scammer, or both.
@@tinyshinyfeathers Most likely both. They did a very stupid thing, figured "Hey most people will ask for three characters or so, the price will seem fine to them", and then when bigger commissions arrived they figured that, at some point, someone will go for it and they'll get rich for a few hours of work...
Yep, I’m certainly failing math rn
Where does this idea come from? All the artist i know are really good at math 💀
@@GBLtheMOTH you don’t really need math to be an artist so pro artists usually forgo taking it when it’s not absolutely necessary. I’ve met some artists who were great at math, I’ve met many more that, well… weren’t. The last person was just a very stubborn example of the trope.
I had a weird dream where my family and I took a trip to a random city and I was walking down a street and saw Robin. He saw me, I said "Oh hi, I love your work" but he thought I had traveled to the city just to see him and was weirded out and the rest of the dream was Robin telling people I was a horrible creep and criminal.
Wanted to share that odd experience.
I'd hate to see how that mathematician artist files their taxes...
That last one made me think about how many characters it would take before NOT getting the discount is cheaper. It's 6 characters btw. 6 seperate characters is 180 dollars. But if you use the calculation that the "artist" was using, it would be 227 dollar. Actually insane
17:00 This person is adding 50% of the total price instead of the base price.
❌ 45 (repeat "*1.5" 13 times) = 8757.00
✅ 45 (add "22.5" 13 times) = 337.50
18:15 I was gonna joke it was compound interest per character but no he just doesn't know how math works XD
I suspect they copied the pricing sheet from someone else without understanding what it meant and none of their clients have ordered more then 2 characters or at least not more than a couple of characters
@@Oshroth That's exactly what I thought too, it's a normal rate but not with the logic of that artist
I have dyscalculia and even I'm not that bad at math 💀
Last dude is making my number-dumb self look like some kind of math super-genius.
If they're "professionals", imagine people that are only amatures.
They are better
Technically, the word professional just means you're making money off of it. It does not indicate skill
Especially if said "professional" uses AI for their "art"
Well, "amateur" comes from a French word which means doing something because you love it, sharing the same root as "amour", which is French for "love", so being an amateur and being a professional aren't mutually exclusive.
21:00 the diff btwn 'adding' 50% and 'compounding' 50%
that whole
actual price from horribly hyperinflated price tactic is something that might be called "opportunity bias" or something simillar
basically, you are psychologically more willing to pay for something if it seems like a good deal despite the "original price" never existing
The worst part is that the person at 1:14 has a brother who is a professional artist. The guy in question used to be an artist too. It’s quite sad seeing that.

0:00 That's what the queen from the new dystopian Queen Elizabeth II video game on r/thomastheplankengine looks like.
I was watching the one where the artist was adding 50% for each character. I was thinking, there is NO WAY they came up with that final price unless......and then I figured out the seller was doing a compound interest problem.
Then the buyer got the artist to show them the math. Yep, that's it.
imma be real, the car painting actually looks sick lmao.
For the last one on added letter percentages, I would have asked him what it would have cost for 26 letters, or 90 characters.
The Shrek painting. To be fair, "You can sell a painting of Shrek, it's fine" isn't exactly true. All fan art of material under active copyright is copyright infringement. Some copyright holders don't care, some encourage fan art, some go after big enterprises breaking licensing rules, and some go after everyone. Never let the mouse catch you selling his properties. Never let Nintendo catch you either. They're probably fine with Shrek because that's Dreamworks, which while sometimes distributed by Disney isn't actually owned by Disney.
the commission post gave me an aneurism omg
21:07 this entire part hurt
The last one made me have an aneurysm
as someone who's father used to often paint for commissions, I can say with certainty that some artists charge a lot for their art because they're taking the materials and time in account for the price. and good paint is *expensive*
1:28 is either high tier rage bait or some serious delusion.
Anyways, say it with me folks: AI generated images aren't art, they're soulless drivel which nary a single individual should pay a cent for.
nope this is real the guy made a almost 40 minute long video about how good ai "art" is
What if I sold my soul is it still soulless if I actually made it
Being good at making ai art is NOT a skill, and if people say it requires skill and dedication, I’m going to slap them with multiple frying pans
I dabble with AI “art” so I can see how many fingers my characters will have, and how bad the spelling is!😁
Disagree. They are very much art, like any other art form. People just dislike it because of how easily it can be created and because of the fact that this is taking away jobs of those who actually mess around with paintbrushes or software for creating images in a computer. But to tell anyone that it is not art is lying to yourself and everyone around you.
AI Training is a skill... Using AI really isn't a skill
Ok, I won’t defend Ai art. I use it when I’m bored and wanna see what funny stuff I can make it spit out. It uses some skill to make it see what you see but that’s it. Just grab the right bases and such and it works
Efficient usage is.
@@justsomeone9054womp womp
@@shrimpma made no sense to me. Mind elaborating?
@@justsomeone9054 oh, it's just that ai isn't really any kind of artform & is just generating soulless slop (also that it doesn't really take much skill, you just type in a few words & it spits out the image)

The math hurt my brain 🤯 what was the point of the commission again?
16:30 artists should not be selling their art if they can't do proper math... i got so fricking mad!
I'm trying to figure out where the last person got their patience from, because clearly the person who they were talking to them was not listening nor cared. Like dude I would have lost my patience half way through knowing I was not getting anywhere, cut my losses and find another artist cuz no amount of good art will give me that kinda patience I aint tryina lose my braincells. So props to them LMFAO
20:11 This is why math teachers need you to show your work 😭
I genuinely have no problem with AI generated images if the uploader just admits to the fact that they are AI generated
It just really rubs me the wrong way when they try to claim that they drew it or really put in any effort at all.
Like bro just say hey I generated this cool image of this character I like with an AI earlier and most people won't be upset
Finally! A balanced view.
yes, the only big problem i have with AI art is how the AI is trained
@@MadSwede87 why though? Don't traditional artists learn similarly?
Just look at AI as a failed artist. It could copy the style but couldn't add individuality.
@@justsomeone9054 A lot of image generative AI programs are trained on actual artists' art without their consent, basically stealing their style and just mixing it into a soulless thing fpr people who don't want to actually go through the process of making art. They want the product and not the journey.
As long as ai art isn’t use for commercial uses I’m fine with it. Use to make your dnd character design or weird fetish art fine. But any company needs to pay an actual artist
I like to mess around with image generation, not for art but for cursed images. Such as cctv footage of master chief riding a kids tricycle down a dark alley
8:04 That deadass looks like something I got out of a novelty photo booth 15 years ago.
I had to "donate" my art car. Couldn't drive it anymore, i knew it wouldn't sell, and I didn't have the heart to have it crushed at the dump.
That Corolla is really beautiful, but not worth much.
That last debacle was mind numbing
Honestly it's painful to me just how long that last conversation went on. Like about halfway through, the requester had understood what was going on, and they apparently liked this specific artist's style so impossibly much that they *still* chose to double the amount of infuriating interaction that they'd already been through.
The last commissioner is more patient than I could ever hope to be.
Okay but why's Robin's John Mulaney impression so damn good? Good lord it had me sent for a sec
I agree that the +50% artist realized he was wrong and just doubled down instead of admitting an error. Mind i would have walked away when i got that 8k estimate. The only other possibility is the artist doesn't want the commission and trying hard to scare them off or is just an idiot at math.
Damn, when I start doing commissions I hope I find clients as patient and nice as the last person!
I worry that $100+ is steep for my crochet plushies (huggable sizes, not tiny things) but these people are insane.
Omg i forgot about that exponentially growing commission convo. Its still as baffling now as it was the first time i saw it. How can someone be so incredibly dense when its being spelled out for them
I'm so glad you find this nonsense and share it with us. 😂😂😂
Half of these aren't even delusional, just blatant scams.
Imagine if that last artist was your landlord charging you for the amount of facilities you use
TBH some of them can be justified for some collectors or if you simply like it.
Esp. those that basically convert to a decent hourly rate work wise when deducting the materials.
I can feel my braincells melting with that last one, wtf bro
1:48 Okay, but 'AI assisted art' shoterning to triple-A, to perfectly match the trashfire that is triple-A gaming right now, is some kind of cosmic poetry.
That was like the math equivalent of Who's On First? for a minute.
11:11 too many wha?!
Lol I also love the "Crooked Joe" one. The face 😙👌
you know, this just makes me reconsider trying to open art commissions again. clearly somebody has to be buying.
that last one hurts my head so bad.
i'm a middle school math teacher and that last one gave me a headache
NEW EMKAY VIDEO LETS GOOO
Never have i been this early to a emkay vid! I sure love these videos though, keep going!
That last one was... Infuriating, to say the least. Hope Robin's brain cooled down after that
I think the listing being marked down at insane rate is so that they can get on some sort of sale front page. The listing (hopefully) wasn't originally a 1000 bucks. They "marked it down" to seem like a deal. I might be wrong, but you see it so often that it doesn't feel right. But who knows, people are weird.
13:11 YOU DO NOT BESMIRCH MY MAN PHILMY
11:25 its that specific because it was listed in a different currency
The John Mulaney voice at 10:22 made me giggle.
As someone who already hates tea, that painting with tea in it did nothing but made me hate it more.
I was not expecting so much math so early in the morning 😅
I like The Beast That Ate The Sun. It's well worth the 14 dolars + Burrito. If my national currency hadn't been mindlyblowingly devaluated by the last president, I would maybe buy it for even a little more than that.
The drawing of the queen looks like Umbridge.
if you add 22.50 for each character like it should have been done originally, the commission would cost a whopping $315
Tbh some of these look good if they were at an art show they probably would have upped the price that insanely high because they didn’t want to get rid of there art unless it’s high enough price( I did that with a tv I painted ) but online eh prob not
Have you seen Papameats video on high-end art. These people make it seem like their art is a bargain with the amount of effort in comparison.
Book-length Desc. of AI art are written by Ai too...
OK so for the last one the equation is literally D = x+((x/2)n)[D is the drawing price, x is the base price, n is the number of characters]. Since (x/2) is 50% of x, then it would be reasonable to say that 45+((45/2)n) = 45+(22.5n). And then to add to that, if there were 3 additional characters it would be 45+(22.5(3)), which would equal 45+(67.5), which means that D = $113.5. So if there were a drawing with a baseline of $30, with 13 characters, the equation would be D = 30+((30/2)(12)), which is (15(12)). that becomes (180), which then gets added to 30 as the baseline price, so D = $210.
The last artist shouldn't have skipped 4th grade for so long, and he should apologize to his teacher when he gets back into class.
The calculator is adding compound interrest with that notation of 50%. The artist doesn't know how to use the calculator and has just barely marginal understanding of percentage, but the client is abhorently bad at explaining it.
Funny thing is no AI would ever get it wrong.
1:29
This reminds me of a certain Piemations video with robin
This subreddit always gives me a boost of confidence. My art may not be great, but at least I'm not asking thousands of dollars for something I made in 5 minutes. Or made by AI.
Fyi, given how the last person was ignoring the commissioner, and repeatedly confidently restating their price, with their price list obviously saying something else, they are fairly obviously not an idiot.
They know exactly what they are doing. They are a scammer.
They finally did it. They completely BROKE Robin.
5:37 a brand new corolla costs about 25k
As an actual medium to paper artist, these make me extremely nervous for my future
Did not expect a math lesson lol
0:56 there’s no way that …ogre painting was actually a painting, it was almost definitely oil pastels
As an Artist, that last one is an absolute NIGHTMARE! Did the artist not take math in school?!?!😬🙄 I suck at math, and even I’m not THAT STUPID!
2:17 this art is actually good… I’d pay the 150.

The S mintmark Nat’l Park quarter is surely worth more than $4!
I lost brain cells on that last one
the queen looks like the joker lmfao
So it was pretty accurate to the real deal
I have known people just like the twitter artist and his commission calculations. Once they are proven wrong in a way that they understand they are wrong, they will not back down and will double up on what they are saying. Some people will just not admit when they are wrong.
8000$!, what kind of math is he doing???
the incorrect kind 😭
Robin finally broke 23:20
