    These scenes are from Operation Market garden. @3.44 - 18/9/44 - the day my partner's grandfather was captured by the Germans. He dropped with the first paras into Arnhem, Holland on day 1 of Operation Market garden. @2.50 I've seen the picture of the boy with the goat before. This was taken on 18 or 19/9/44 in Eindhoven. These celebrations were premature as the area was heavily bombed shortly after that with many civilian and military loss of life. The Dutch have never blamed the Allied forces and continue to remember them and all those buried there every year.

      All Allied armour wore the white star insignia following the June '44 invasion to be more recognisable from the air.

      A recognition signal for aircraft.

      SHAEF order for the invasion of Europe. All allied vehicles at to be identified by a white star as a recognition sign for friendly forces. Prior to this, it was a uniquely American recognition identifier.
      Similar to invasion stripes for aircraft.
