- Well this is one of the songs we recieved for the MICCA Festival but we ended up not playing it. But, for this song I play the Timpani.
Your group will shine with this magical work that is inspiring and uplifting! A bright opening fanfare leads to a tapestry of sound that is woven throughout the entire piece. The music may spark the imagination of the listeners or evoke the image of a tiny spark that becomes a magnificent fire as the pulse drives toward a riveting finish. Spectacular!

I Don't Own Anything In This Video I Just Uploaded It For People To View.
I was in the audience while Brian Balmages was conducting the region honor band for one of the Texas regions. On one of the rehearsals, Mr. Balmages was growing impatient with the band's lack of practice, and he said, "You guys have the band part down, just not the honor part." Ruthless 😭
well thats what conductors are like. strict, even my band teacher can be kinda harsh at times
Seems like all band directors are like that, not necessarily a bad thing though. It also seems that every band chooses not to practice outside of class
I mean, it’s just like that. Texas bands are very competitive. I come from South East Texas and my Middle school always have made 1’s for 15 years straight, no one has yet to even come close to beating us. Not in All Region, Not in Sweepstakes, Nothing. CO Wilson, Nederland.
If it was a north texas band, im pretty sure it was my band that he said that to😂 i remember him saying something like that but not sure exactly his wording
Omg my same clinician, Mr. Countryman said that once too. I'm in Katy, Texas
I'm a sophomore in college. I played this 6 years ago in middle school. There are some things you never forget.
good to know. i played this last year and i never want to forget it.
i played this in 8th grade. It was one of my highlights of that year.
It’s been 5 years how old are you now
@@marcocassar9746 i'm currently learning this song as a seventh grader. i'm playing on the snare drum
I played this almost 2 years ago but we never got to preform it at a competition because of covid, time flies fast…
Even though I play the trumpet, I really enjoy listening to the low brass in this piece. Great work
I play Euphonium and Trumpet for this piece.
I play tuba
I played euphonium it was super fun
ah#9930 same, I play tuba too
I play French horn
Im a trombone player in 9th grade from Reedley High School. Im in Concert Band and this is one of the songs were playing. It's an awesome piece that lightens me up every time I play or hear it. Our Pre-Festival is tomorrow and I cant wait to play this song for the judges. Lets hope we get a good scores and comments!
8 years ago lol
ayo how’s life
Trombones… I remember when my school had trombones…
Then like four graduated all at once and that was the end of it.
@@evanvankampen7528 same thing happened with the clarinets, we went from having 20 in wind ensemble last year to having 5 after we moved a bunch of people up. And then one of them broke his collarbone in the dumbest way possible. We were playing a game where you “died” and then he got out and sits down then says, “wait, I have to die dramatically” he stands up then falls directly on his collarbone and breaks it.
I’m struggling with this song and I’m in 8 grade it’s a bit difficult for me
I’m excited to get this right because I got it 2 days ago. It sounds super fun. Just finished 6 grade and 3rd band at u of a band camp. Go flute 2s!!!!!!
i looove this piece! it always gets stuck in my head after second period rehearsal.
woah, i play timpani too :)
This comment was so long ago where are you now?
Ooh I play snare on this song
Played Flute 1 on this for UIL. It was SO MUCH FUN!
It’s crazy how even after 12 years, I’m playing this song in band
I'm playing this song right now in band. We're the Clarendon Hills Middle School Symphonic Band. First trombone!!!!!!!
I played this my 7th grade year in jr. High. I LOVED it! I miss it so much, but the music that we are working on now in High School is also fun :) trombones and flutes for the win!!!

Matthew Crane no trombone for the win
Trombones da best!!!
Matthew Crane yass
Matthew Crane right here!!
I'm playing this for UIL in 8th grade alto sax 🎷🎷🤗🤗
1st alto sax section leader 11th grade, make sure on the first measures where you have the notes G And C to bounce a little and stand out but not that much, it will really sound good if you just bounce it a little bit, trust me, my band got a 2 2 1, don't stress yourself over sounding too loud because this song is allegro, mostly joyful and bright sounds, and since i seen you said you a saxophone, only to you i give this advice, never give in and never give up!
Victor D Zavala yo sah dude I'm in the same band as you cause we go to the same school
+Jess Ramirez me?
Julio Medina no Zavala
Im playing this this year as a freshman haha AND AS ALTO SAX TOO 👌👌👌
Trombone part on this song = beastness

My school got to meet Brian Balmages! He came into our class one day and taught us how to play "A Solitary Wish" and it was most definitely the best day for my band nerd heart!
7 years ago, I was playing first part for Bb Clarinet! I loved this piece so much! Here I am, almost a band director, and I can't wait to have my band play it!
Played this last year.... Fantastic memories.
By the way, where my percussionists at??
Right here
Crash cymbals
Right here. Crash just hits different
Right here

Right here! pumpkin and small twig
I’m learning the 2nd trombone part but I wanted to say that I love this piece so much! It sounds so amazing to me. We are preparing to play this song for UIL very soon :D
Played snare on this piece last year. There's a large portion of rest between 2:07 to 3:04, heard it every day on repeat because it was the hardest section for our band. Youd think I'd be sick of it, but it never failed to leave a warm feeling inside me and the smallest tear in to my eye.
it really is hard. to me its just listening and not taking your eyes off of the conductor.
This piece brings back so many middle school memories! Our band director gave it to us like 2 weeks before the concert. The baritone part wasn't too bad, but it was a challenge to learn it so quickly. I love this piece so much, its bright and joyful, and very enjoyable to play!
My best friand ans I played the duet, I played trumpet and she played alto sax. This piece was our senior year marching band show.
Wish me luck: small terrible middle school band trying to start playing this and learn it by 2 months. We need the luck ! x3
Lol we played this after only having the music for two DAYS
***** DID YOU DO ANY GOOD? xD
+Thomas Nunya omg how
+Elhami T lmao it was a band clinic at KSU, went there for two days and performed it. It went really well, there were a lot of talented people in the clinic.
+Thomas Nunya I sight read!It was so easy!
My BD gave us homework to listen to this 5 times 😂 me over here did that like x4 times 🤦🏼♀️ me being *ExTrA*
Gonna play this at MLK Jr. Middle! Clarinet FTW
Playing this on Trumpet 1 and I'm in 7th grade while playing this. I love Sparks it's so intense but it kinda competes with a song called Brave Spirit 😊😀😬😁😎😂
Same but I play tenor sax
M.C Panda OUR teacher wanted to switch our parts so people who usually get dirt got second so it's really easy for me. I get to play second clarinet part this time.
I'm playing both sparks and brave spirit for UIL and I'm a trombone player
M.C Panda My band played this when I was in 7th grade and I had to play baritone 1 with my trumpet but it still sounded awesome
Oh that not fare we played it for 8th grade well to put that in we were bad and got a B on eogs and 7th grade got an A playing the the same grade level but I was the best trombone player and always complained on how bad we were oh well
We are play this, voltage and something else for our Marching show this year
This peice is so fun! Our schools 8th grade band is playing it. I'm sitting first alto, and I'm loving it. This sounds awesome. Love it. Super fun.
So good
I'm in 7th and 8th grade symphonic band and we are playing this
Trombone part is insane but I'm excited to play it.
Playing first trombone, loving it! Especially having the melody for once! XD
Trombone is a gift from God
I know right!!
Switched from trumpet to trombone...don’t regret it one bit :)
@@xeriffe8708 my assistant band director wont let me switch to trombone
I think I still memorized this song on my trombone many many years later!
I’ a Freshman now, played this in 6th grade, favorite 10/10.
edit: i play tuba and made the switch to tuba that year
I play the trombone too and I love that part!!
I just got this piece in band and I’m so excited to play it!!
This song is so much fun as a Euph player
Lots of nostalgia with this one. Played first trumpet on this piece in 8th grade. The memories man....
YEA BRIAN BALMAGES IS ACTUALLY THE BEST COMPOSER FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL BANDS!!!!!! INTO THE ARCTIC IS AWESOME!!!! LOOK IT UPPPPP!!!
played this last year and it was so cool and the best song I have ever played
I play the flute, and I am first chair. I love this song to death, and I wish the “flute solo” was longer. I am playing this right now for UIL.
Playing this on the alto sax two was mabey my favorite song i have ever played in orchestra! i love how upbeat it is and it always made me smile playing
I am 1st chair in the Clarinet section, and I think we, as an entire section, have the best part. Not to mention, I'm a high school senior from Miami, FL, and our high school is playing this easy middle-school song. :D
Love the trombones at 3:08 and on!
Luxa Underlander I hate it bc I have to play on my own and I have anxiety but at least a decent player is next to me so yay lol the other two trombones suck lol
It is a tricky part, I know (I've got first trombone), but it's really fun. The main critique that our director has is that it's too loud. :) I get a little carried away because it's so fun to play. Also, the same for my band! I'm first chair (in concert band), second is a decent player, and third and fourth are trash. But the one other decent player is also on the baseball team, so he's never at after school rehearsals, so first part is a solo for me basically.
I enjoy being the best trombone in the room though.
Luxa Underlander yeah same
In junior high, that's how it was, but then I get to high school, and now I'm in about the middle. You know, not the best, but there are just as many people better than you as there are worse than you.
i love this song!
its my favorite from the selection...
Damn. Good times, good times.
We are playing this for festival with the 8th grade band I am in so this really helps when I'm practicing at home! Thx
Such a cool piece, all that calling answering is cool, reminds me of christmas
Percussion for the win. Such a fine chime and bell part!
I play the snare drum part for this song and it is absolute hell
But it’s still fun
@@logansadventure912 I’m on the marimba, always will be my favorite instrument
@@logansadventure912 omg ikr
This brings me back all the way to 7th grade and our trip to Disney to play this song...ahhhhh, the good times. A feeling of nostalgia always creeps on me as I listen to this...
This gives me middle school memories 😭😭😭 the band teacher always gave me the snare drums part
I love this song! Its fun! I play 2nd trumpet

I’m in 8th grade jr high band. And we’re playing this right now for an assessment. I play B Flat clarinet
Played this in North CA honor band. Euophonium FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I played this when I was in 8th grade, I had a couple solos in this because our horn section was too loud but listening to this song makes me feel really nostalgic. I'm now a Sophomore about to be a Junior. :)))
this was hell on my lips.
but heaven to my ears.
I played this for all-region last year :) beautiful piece
I was going to be playing timpani, too! I ended up on percussion 2 with triangle, suspended cymbal and crash cymbals, which was really just the suspended cymbal hit really hard. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring the triangle beaters to the concert when we performed, so I had to use the crappy ones that were already there.
I play bell set on this, yes that rhythm in the beginning makes me cry myself to sleep every time.
playing this on clarinet for CODA!!
loved playing this in middle school!
I love this song my band teacher Mrs.tarkington asked me to play tenor sax and it was cool today I played alto on it it's great
I played this last year in 7th Grade, it was easy but a really fun song. Oboes ftw
Going to national concert band festival with my school. Playing this. So excited!!
Oh hey harleigh its the short guy lol
Omg Harleigh
dude we’re playing this song this year and i play an uncommon instrument (the bassoon) and that part is really fun to play cause i play like drones but also the melody (i’m a junior in high school btw) this piece is so amazing. i can’t wait to play it for a live audience
Im also playing this piece this year! i also play a double reed, im on oboe, this is one of my favorite pieces from Brian balmages
Alto 1 on this piece is a blast
Where are my saxophones!!!!!🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷
Here
Both are awesome
I play b flat clarinet
Lilly Boehm so do I... I'm going to listen to this everyday to get it stuck in my head to make sure we are playing it correctly because lots of people in my section are really confused so I want to be a helpful section leader. If you know who I am and you are reading this yes I am talking about you Captain Salty.
why
Lilly Boehm me too
Same I'm first chair b flat clarinet
7th grade 2018 flutes for da win!!!!!!!🎵🎶🎼

My band just got this don't today, and figured our we're playing it for UIL. I play French horn in our honors band, and I'm glad we finally got a song where we could be heard a few times over trumpets. I live it!
im paling this song this year and i think it sounds so cool i really love the clarinet parts and the flute ( i play the clarinet)
This sounds awesome
my favorite part is @2:38
Me too
I was going to play this in 7th grade, but now I am playing it in 8th grade. 1st trumpet is a blast!!!
Hey John, trumpets are better than your instrument
John Russell yeah it is
Me too! I'm first chair
My band teacher announced we were playing this. he said it today, and BTW I'm in 7th grade. Really hope I get 1st trumpet bc I've been first for all pieces except 2, our most recent ones. We have a playing test on wednesday, and I think the outcome will determine the roles. Wish me luck!!😪😪
Myra McCarter I wish you the best of luck, if you get first or second it doesn't matter because you tried. And trying is what matters!!👍
Our high school bands are playing this song among many others on Wednesday may 13th for our school's fine arts festival. (Our school's high school band only has 7-8 people, but a neighboring town has a bunch, so we always combine for concerts)
Derp'zy Entertainment Dang. I thought my school's wind ensemble was small. We have 22 members.
+Sean Weisman we have about 92 in our college band...
Comedy Bros R5 & Demi Lovato Dang! I think 50 would be enough.
CLARINET OVER HERE!
DSBMX aye
1:00 flutes need to be softer. I believe it is an mp for flute there.
