  • When your HVAC blower suddenly starts making noise you never know what you might find inside when you pull it apart, but hopefully it won't bite.

Add me to the list of 2013 F150 owners that found exactly what you did! Thx so much. Took me an hour and now the fan is quiet again. Saved me some $$$$. You’d think Ford would have discovered this design flaw by now.

Thank you so much for this. My advice to those of you that are going to do this process: Make sure you have an 8mm wrench and start removing the back screw first. Use small movements and be patient. It’ll come off! Then do the others. Best of luck!

@@chrisculbertson6737It's the actuation hub from the recirculation air door. You will get A?C with it broken but you will not get recirculating air, which keeps the cabin cooler by reusing already chilled air. There is a video on YT by Motors and Mischief on how to replace the door without taking the entire dashboard apart,. If anyone tries this, please post the results! Thanks.

I removed that same part a couple of years ago; Maybe that’s why I don’t get cold temps right off the start for a good while in this hot Texas heat; I do notice that it does get a lil cooler by lowering the speed tho but not straight cold; but now I can target the possible reason

Exact same issue for me. Same part broke off. I believe its been off for a few years now. I have no idea what it goes to as there is no issues with my vents or blends that I have ever noticed. What I thought was going to be a huge cost was just my own time and tools. Your video has helped me and apparently several others from the comments. Thank you very much! Side note, someone needs to find and beat the engineer about the head and shoulders for the designing of the three screws with one all the way in the back and about an inch play for a little box wrench and nothing more.

Thanks for the video. Just found the same piece in my 2014. I bet it does have to do with the blend door. I always have kept mine on recirculate, but over the last couple of months driving I questioned whether it was working because I shouldn't be smelling things from outside while driving down the highway, i.e. a diesel truck in front.
Thanks again to FOMOCO for such a high quality job!

My 2012 f150 all the sudden started making this loud humming noise coming from the passenger side and I followed this instructional video and was able to fix it. I discovered a plastic wrapper from my wife’s cigarette pack had gotten sucked up in the fan. I removed it , replaced the fan and bingo , problem fixed. Just to give a lil heads up, that one screw furtherest towards the front is a pain in the butt!!! I used a short 8mm socket to a swivel connector to about a 3” extension to 1/4” ratchet. Good luck

Great video, I actually figured out how to change the blend door where
that piece came from without removing the dash. Just the airbag, glove
box, and fan. Now that I know how to do it, probably a 4 hour fix
instead of the 10+ hours Ford quoted me. What a crazy Ford problem.
    Again, nice video.

Just had the same problem and this video explained the fix and cause, exactly. I found, directly inside the hole there is a door that swivels up and down. I could clearly feel that on one side of the swivel was a bit jagged and is probably where that piece broke from. But what is that swivel door?
Thank for the video, definitely took the guess work out of it.
Recommend taking the back, pita, screw out first, then the second back one, and then the front one. You will need a 7mm socket for glove box door, and 8 mm socket and ratcheting wrench for the motor.

It makes the door inoperable. Most likely to be in the outside air position so your AC will not cool very well on a hot summer day. The real fix is an all day job. I just wedged the door on mine in the recirculate position and glued in place.

Yes it’s the part that makes the recirculation work! One screw will fix it! Search “2014 Ford F-150 air recirculating issue” he shows you exactly where to look and where to put the screw to hold the door in place. Took me 30 minutes max and you’ll want someone to help hold the door in place while you drill the screw.

I have a 2013 as well and just fixed mine today. One screw will fix it. Search “2014 Ford F-150 air recirculating issue” he shows you exactly where to look and where to put the screw to hold the door in place. Took me 30 minutes max and you’ll want someone to help hold the door in place while you drill the screw.

Had this happen to us, took it out of the blower motor and put back together. Now a week or 2 later it smokes when heat is on. Any ideas?

So what is this piece? I had the same cylindrical part in my blower motor. Ford needs to fix this problem.

This just happened to me. I took the blower motor down and had the same piece in there. Removed it and now it's quiet.

Exact same thing for me, great video. My plan is just to reinstall the blower and hope for the best. Anyone had negative outcome without trying to repair the blend actuator?

Hey Joseph man this was a great teaching video. Even more so for someone who isn't a mechanic. I started watching the video. Heard the noise it was making and knew instantly my 2013 had the same exact problem. I got the motor out and had the totally same piece that was in the fan.
My question is however. I had watched your video and was going to work o taking the fan out the same day. So as my lick usually goes..lol. ...The fan quit working last night. So I stopped and got the 40 A fuse to put in and that wasn't the problem apparently. Do you think the fan motor is shot. Is there a way to tell or is the another fuse or relay I can check.
    Thanks, Jim

Does the fan work only on the lowest or highest speed setting? If is does the blower motor resistor is the issue. If not then if you can unplug the fan and hook up a high amp 12v DC to the plug for the fan and it doesn’t kick on then you have a issue with the motor. The easiest way to do that is with the fan out of the truck, but if you can rig it up in the truck that’s fine too.
If the fan functions normally on 12v direct the diagnosis will become more complicated as you will have to work back from the fan motor and figure out where you are loosing power.
I hope this help. If there are any other questions you have please don’t hesitate to ask.

Thanks Joseph. I got the fan back in. When I started the truck and turned on the heater it took it just a bit then it took off. It was running fine. The low to high speed dial was functioning. Now this morning it didn't turn on. I was a little concerned when it took it a bit to take off yesterday. But then it ran fine so I thought well its good to go. Ill probably have to take it to the shop. I'm not great when it comes to the electrical.

I have the exact same thing! My mechanic buddy said it was a mouse as well. I watched your video on how to check such thing and boom, same dam piece. I would have preferred a mouse!! Did you ever figure out what that went to?

Thanks for this video! My 2013 AC started making that very same noise yesterday! Found this video, and fixed the problem this morning before it got too hot! *Exact* same part. So my truck has 29400 mi (no, I don't drive much :) ) is this a common Ford problems? Also who was the sick individual who placed that back screw? After seeing your struggle with different methods, I started right away with the box end...painfully slow (I am right handed, but had to use my left hand for the whole operation :D) I subscribed!
