    I’m so sick and tired of hearing people complain about what is arguably the most dependable vehicle in the world over horsepower, a soft off-road suspension and it being antiquated! Cars, trucks and SUVs are loaded with useless tech sprinkled with some that’s slightly useful.
    I’m old enough to remember when the Cadillac 501 only had 190 HP! When the Ford GT Mustang had only 175 HP! Today, if what you are driving does not have 300 HP and a 12” monitor you are some kind of schmuck! If your hatchback doesn’t have a power lift your somehow underprivileged and living in the dark ages!
    The only competition the 4Runner should be considered for is the smart shopper award. That’s the one they give for buying a machine that will last over 20 years and 300,000 miles worry free!
    Want high mileage; want an auto lift gate; want all the useless tech? Buy something else!

    In case you're wondering, the 4Runner can in fact do high speed desert runs. I've done 60-70 mph runs in Death Valley with my 4Runner TRD Pro and those Fox shocks do wonders. It ain't no Ford Raptor but it can handle its own weight. I'm really not sure why you're saying the 4Runner TRD Pro doesn't inspire confidence. I send this thing as hard as I send my 2019 Ford Raptor when I'm offroading.
    I've done everything from bumpy forest roads to Black Bear Pass in my stock 2022 4Runner TRD Pro and I still haven't hit its limits yet. And yes, I also owned a 2021 Venture Edition with KDSS and it's def not as capable as the TRD Pro. FYI, I've put 55,000 miles in 18 months on my 22' 4Runner TRD Pro. I feel like most reviewers test this truck in the wrong environment then criticize it for the features that make it a capable vehicle.

    What? 4Runners are great overlanding vehicles. IMO the "Baby Bronco" is more the "Hipster" vehicle. Or perhaps, God forbid, a Subaru.

      Yeah I don’t think the TRD Pro is a hipster. For sure a Subaru more then the bronco.

    Question. TRD premium with KDSS versus the pro with Fox. Which Suspension is best for anti tipping? I’m an old lady who drives long highway hours to get to the backroads and explore. Would one be better in a collision environment. I don’t do any body upgrades and stay with stock. Thanks.
    Love your video. Very well done.

      Hi Cheryl, we have not tested the KDSS on the show yet. But we have driven 4Runners on the standard suspension before, and we do prefer the highway manners of the regular shocks over the fox shocks. We feel that they are slightly more controllable at speed. Thanks for watching and happy exploring.

    my SR5 4runner 4X4 plain white goes anywhere i want to go from the compact parking spots at safeway to the mud, snow, beach, hillsides , highway construction, gets 21 mpg going on trips over 100 miles, camping, festivals, concerts, rock climbing, dirt roads, etc,etc,etc.
    I really like my toyota 4runner.

    That's my wife's exact vehicle down to the color. I added a Pedal Commander and S&B CAI; what a difference! It's not a Porsche, but it's quite peppy now. Rides well on the road and goes anywhere off-road we've driven. She intends to drive it until the wheels fall off. Originally for off-road, she purchased a 2020 Gladiator Rubicon, which was great, but horrible on the highway. Fortunately enough, she paid cash for the Jeep, and when buying the 4Runner, for the trade-in they offered $5K over our original purchase price. The trade-in covered the price of the 4Runner plus she walked out of the dealership with a check for almost $1300. Win, win...

    You're talking about hipster in 2021/2022? Guess they really are a decade in the past in Texas. You buy Toyota for reliability. With proper maintenance and upkeep that 4Runner will last 300,000+ miles without the repair bill a Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, or most other competitors would have. It's an old engine that Toyota has perfected. Toyota doesn't throw out new ideas. And I'm a long-time Jeep GC owner. 15ish years. And I see as many of these in a Wal-Mart parking lot as a Whole Foods.
    This is honestly one of the worst reviews on the market. Not worth a sub. Corny and heavily biased with your own opinions. Maybe try harder next time? That might be a bit much to ask in Texas. Things are bigger there. Not necessarily better or smarter though.

      David - we are sorry that you don’t like our flavor of reviews. You missed the underlying theme of, buy the off road if you are serious about wheeling and modding. Buy the Pro if you want to be seen at Whole Foods. While our more recent reviews are more straight forward, corny makes it more fun. There are plenty of outlets that will read the spec sheet if that’s what you are looking for. We offer our opinions. You are invited to spend your time commenting elsewhere if you don’t like our reviews.
      Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.

    Forgot that the transmission hunts for gears. If you're going to put money into this for overlanding, off roading, I'd go with the SR5 or SR5 Premium, and add ARB lockers and air compressor, lift, tires and re-gear.

    I really want a 2 cylinder with 12 turbos on it. Maybe save me some gas and get my horsepower up. I also don’t like having the engine in my vehicle for over a few years. Who wants an old engine? I have made some life long friends in the service department at my local dealer. I even get a $20 gift card at Christmas. So, you can keep your 4Runner.

    Rooftop tent ready rack on the roof? Lol you can’t fit a rooftop tent on that rack. People who actually use their racks for rooftop tents or a bunch of stuff usually switch that rack out for a bigger aftermarket platform. That rack can hold a few things but that’s about it. It’s more like a small basket but definitly can’t put a rooftop tent on top of that small basket rack. But besides that appreciate you giving life to the 4Runner gang. Love my runner and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

      We drive all kinds of vehicles all the time. How does the cushy ride of the 4 runner have to do with sports cars?

    • @mrchrisp9731
      @mrchrisp9731 2 роки тому +1

      @@TexasTruckChannel I just think all the attributes of the ride you mentioned are a bit exaggerated that’s all. I do own one too btw. It means the ride of the 4Runner is not bothersome too me at least anyway. Typically these vehicles would have a taller task of impressing people that own or drive performance oriented vehicles yet many owners don’t complain about these things at all. Too each their own, all I’m saying is people should always go drive the vehicle for themself instead of relying on reviews to dictate if they’re going to purchase that vehicle.

    • @TexasTruckChannel

      Hey fair enough, and to a certain extent the way a vehicle rides is subjective. We came to our conclusion when comparing it to its main competition, it feels wallowy. Not that it is a bad thing, just worth mentioning that after 700 miles on road it felt that way. We have also had it on trail and those same traits at trail speeds are awesome. Some love it, some hate it. As always, test drive before you buy. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    The TRD Pro is nearly $8k more than an off road premium with a moonroof. The TRD Pro grille, wheels, tires, and roof rack can be added for about $2900. Is the rest worth $5100? It’s basically only the TRD skid plate, Fox shocks, and auto climate control left.

    • @whocaresjustdoit
      @whocaresjustdoit Рік тому

      The Fox shocks are what make the difference! I’ve gone every where from dirt roads to Black Bear Pass in my 2022 TRD Pro and still haven’t found where it can’t go yet!
      People think lifting the truck 3” higher and put some 33s will make a regular 4Runner as capable as the Pro. It may be so. But besides the Ford Raptor, I haven’t driven any vehicle that as comfortable on road as the 4Runner TRD Pro. That’s a big factor. And the Pro handles way better than aftermarket lifted truck. You’re really paying for the engineering.

    • @user-hf8ie8mf3n
      @user-hf8ie8mf3n 4 місяці тому

      Interesting. Right now a Pro is only $4k more than a KDSS equivalent ORP, which means you’ll still have to pay a bit to get the pro stuff. JBL is certainly debatable, and dual climate may not interest anyone either. But the price difference varies by dealer and region. 👍🤪🏳️‍🌈
