My 34GP83A just arrived today. It's a beautiful monitor! As for the similarity to the 34GN850... it's not similar. IT'S THE EXACT SAME MONITOR. Except for the branding molded into the plastic on the back. Amazon first listed the new 34GP83A for $799 but after a few days it jumped up to $850, which is where it's priced now. Even for the extra $50, it's still $150 off what the identical GN850 panel is selling for right now and definitely worth it.
Don't leave many too many comments on other people's videos, but I have to say this is exactly what I was looking for when I stumbled across the 83A and thought, hold on isn't this the same thing as the 850? Of course the comparison tool on the LG's website is nearly useless, but even there it looked identical. Really appreciate the "3rd-party" confirmation on this. Thanks again!
WOW! Finally! I have been asking this to myself for awhile now. This video is more comprehensive than what I read on reddit. Thanks Sean! (I'm getting the LG 34GP83A-B)
I picked up the g850 2 days ago @micro center... and then I saw this yesterday at PC Partpicker, sorry but I’m saving $160 from the same panel, returning the 1000 piece of glass. Thanks for clearing things up (it can even still OC to 160htz)
Thanks, Sean! I just ordered the 83A for $800 based on your video. BUT, the 850 is now down to $797! So maybe they are slowly trying to phase out the older model. I know I will only get 1 vs 2 DP cables based on your terrific video but that is not a concern. What I do wonder is if they made any "running changes" internally after having manufactured the 850 for a while. But at a $3 difference, I ordered the newer one hoping that the newer one is more up to date besides the external cosmetics and accessories.
Okay, just bought one via your link :-) Excited to get this. Thanks so much. Funny enough, I already have a 43" Dell 4K /60 screen. I love it, but for games.. man.. its def. behind. So, I wanted one where I can kinda have the best of both worlds (photography and games / video etc).
Sean, I was wondering.. what mode should I use for this display.. I want to get the best performance in Warzone, and also want to calibrate this for photo work etc. So, is there just one mode I can use to do it all, or will I need to keep switching modes back and forth between "windows" and "game"? In other words, looking at the manual, online I can see that there are game 1 and game 2 presets.. where I can see where I can select the response (fastest I would assume) etc. So, is this okay to also use in windows, for photo edits etc.. or, would I need to flip back to the SRGB mode for that? So, when I would use my external screen color calibration tool.. what mode should I have the display in? What are your thoughts? Thanks so much!
Great vid, exactly what I needed. Curious, do you think one 34inch ultrawide is enough for your set up? Or would you include a secondary smaller monitor for productivity / gaming?
Great Video Comparison. My LG34GP83A-B gets delivered tomorrow. I have plenty of cables and would have thrown the cable box out anyway. For Me, it is well worth the $200 savings. 😎👍
LG did something similar, and even their employees could answer their question! I did a comparison between the LG-3488UC vs. the LG-3498UC, and the one was about 200 dollars cheaper, the only difference was the stand and the extra charging port in the rear. The panel was exactly the same, and it was about 200.00 cheaper, but LG didn't know the difference themselves when I called them about it. One was white the other was black also... But anyways, they really do like to recycle monitors just to and rename it... and charge more! I'm rocking the 850 right now, But I bought it refurbished from Best Buy a couple weeks back for 880+ tax. hmm... oh well.. too much hassle I suppose..
Thanks that you had both to show. I ordered the $799 one on Amazon. Will be getting it in two days. Can't wait to see how it comes out compared to my 27in 1440p TN panel. I hope it's all I'm wishing it is. By the way if there's 1,000 ms in a second, you get 250 frames in a second, so you can get 250 clear frames in 1 second if it can reach that speed. With that said,, the panel is fast enough for 160 frames per second.. Cheers and thanks for sharing.
I used a 27” ASUS before this and it’s really a different experience. It’s so much bigger! That could be a good or bad thing depending on your desk and setup
Hey Sean! I got the display, and love it! It is really, really nice! I wanted to both thank you and also ask a follow up question... I do notice (when the screen is totally black) that I have some backlight bleed coming from the 4 corners. Its not worth trying to take a photo of.. (because the exposure of the camera will make it look different) but, wanted to simply ask you if this is something that you too have seen on this panel? I am aware of the IPS ghosting effect, where when you move and look at the screen it can change a bit.. but, this is different. Its not noticeable at all in normal use, only when looking for a problem, lol. I noticed it when I was looking for any dead pixels. I figured, since you have one there.. you would be the person to ask and check :-) Thanks so much Sean!
They wouldn’t adjust my price (Amazon) so I had to buy this one and I’m sending back the GN850 - I had just gotten it, so I’m in the return window. You might be able to also depending where you bought it from.
Nice review! I actually have the same monitor as yours. How's the IPS glow on your monitor? I wanted to compare since mine has noticeable glow on 4 corners particularly on dark scenes. I understand that IPS panels will have this due to its technology but I'm not sure how bad is bad. Thanks!
I ended up buying the LG 34gp83a-b because of your video. Thank you! I have a question if you don't mind me asking. Do you happen to remember how to turn it off? (It seems to turn itself off automatically whenever I shut down my computer. The thing about this is that every time I turn on my computer, the monitor turns on too. I don't have to press anything. Is it supposed to be like this? I just wonder if this is safe. I don't want to break it. Any help would be appreciated!)
Great review! I have the older brother LG 34UC79G-B since lauch. What is the difference , beside the pixel density (resolution) . I heard good and bad things about nanoIPS
One is IPS and the other is VA, I would pick based on which type of panel you wanted to get. If you want the best colors and viewing angles, go IPS. If you want better contrast and dark room performance, get the VA.
@@TechWithSean Thanks for your feedback, you helped me with my decision.. I think I'm going to stick with my G7 because I really like using it so far and got it on sale for $540. If I were to switch to this Monitor I would have to pay an additional $260.

@@TechWithSean Thanks Sean! Okay, so the 850 is the older one then? and is more costly. The new one is the 83A and is cheaper? Is that correct? Both are exactly the same except the badge in the back and the OSD astatic?
Hey nice Video! One question - can you check the upper corners of both displays? I read that you can see the foil on the 850 models. So whether you can pull it off. Maybe LG has fixted that with the "new" version.
Hello, great comparison! I just purchased the LG 34GP83A from Amazon and you mentioned that it only came with 1 display port. I'm pretty new at this and this might be a dumb question but what cable do i need to buy in order for it to work seamlessly with a 2018 Macbook pro, Xbox one and possible for the new Xbox series X thats coming out (I know that the series X is HDMI 2.1 and this is HDMI 2.0). Thanks again!

Do you use the audio passthrough on the 83A? I just got one today and the audio quality is really poor compared to my previous monitor. Tinny with a high pitched scratchy sound. I'm torn because everything else is great.
I was watching this video thinking the one on the left looked nicer and thinking it was the 850 model - it wasn't until you went behind that I realised the better looking one on camera was the cheaper one.
Hey @ Tech with Sean is there any difference in the curve aggression between these 2 monitors? not sure if the info on PCpartpicker is correct. EDIT: using ctrl F searching for "curve" it looks like Tech with Sean confirmed no difference in curve, not sure if its the more aggressive 1900R or the 3800R...
I owned both and your right the 34GP83A-B does have better contrast as well as better color uniformity. Light bleed is almost non existent in the corners.
The monitor also fit for work, reading, a lot of UA-cam and TV shows? The curved monitor will not be annoying for the things i mention before? Flat monitor is more recommended to what i am looking for?
Alright, I need some buying decision suggestions: First things first, great video! I’m trying to decide between the Samsung 32 inch G7 Odyssey or this LG 34GP83A-B. Apparently the G7 had some screen flickering issues, but as of 2 weeks ago with the latest software update, this is no longer a problem. That was my only concern with the G7. But now I’m eyeing this LG monitor and I just can’t decide. Right now, this LG is $100.00 more ... What do you guys think??
very useful review, it seems that the GP83A is the newer one, benefiting from economies of scale (fixed production costs already written off etc)... unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available here in europe
I know its been a year but from amazon prime day i was able to get the gp83a for $669! I would wait out for the Alienware QD OLED but its very expensive and wont get it for atleast 2 months, not to mention many people are having issues with it and you cant even update the firmware!
Have you gamed with it what graphics card do you have idk if you said it I didn’t hear how does it hold up on your pc you think a rtx 2070 can play games at full res
I’m using an RTX 3080 so of course it’s beasting everything. I would say a 1080/Ti or 2070+ could do most AAA stuff full res 60+ and for esports games, you could probably get away with a 1660ti or something. If you do drop a few frames, it has g-sync and freesync though 👍
Wow I just bought the 850 for $999, than I see this new one on amazon today and have been going crazy trying to compare the specs. Should I take my 850 back? IS IT WORTH THE HASSLE? LG, Y U DO DIS?
Thanks for this comparison, I was looking for answers regarding the differences between the two. I have one question, on LG's website it says the 34GN850 supports HDMI connection for 3440 x 1440 for 10 bit at 85Hz. I'm wondering if the GP83A-B has the same support. Both have 2 HDMI 2.0 inputs so I would expect there should be no difference. If you can confirm this that'll be great.
Thanks for the reply. I ended up getting the GP83A-B. I hooked up my work laptop to it through HDMI (used the Display Port for my desktop) but with 3440 x 1440 it only supports up to 50Hz refresh rate. I think it's probably because my work laptop's graphics can't support anything more than that. So I adjusted it down to 2560 x 1080 which can run a refresh rate up to 75Hz.
Bought the 34GN850-B in UK a week ago. It has that new "UG" logo at the back, the new OSD and the accessories box with one cable of each. Don't think the 34GP83A exists in Europe.
Now i wish they would get rid of all ports other than one displayport and one hdmi and lower the price even more. I have literally never not once used a monitor port
I think you helped me on figuring out which 32" 16:9 1440p to get, 32GP850-B vs 32GP83B-B. Really, they seem the same specs except the 32GP850-B list a 180Hz OC. Otherwise, both are 165Hz. Again, the 32GP83B-B $100 cheaper than the 32GP850-B and the 32GP83B-B is available in stock at my local bestbuy.
LG 34GP83A-B 34 Inch 21: 9 Ultragear Curved QHD (3440 x 1440) 1ms Nano IPS Gaming Monitor with 144Hz and G-SYNC Compatibility - Black (34GP83A-B) -- this is what amazon says.

@@TechWithSean this will be my first gaming monitor. I was debating two 27 or this seems like you really like this for gaming , how is it for daily web browsing and productivity
It’s good for general use. If you make your web browser full screen it’s reeeeally wide though! I would do this over a 2 monitor setup because for games you won’t have bezels in the center if you want to go “full screen”
Would this work if I want to use this monitor to game but then also use with my MacBook Pro that I use from work? I want to use this for work and gaming with my gaming PC?
@@froginthebed5607 I was thinking of using an HDMI to USB-C cable that has the proper rating. I think that should work right? I just want to make sure that it would work
So yea.... just got the GN850 as the other was not available. Mine was manufactured in March 2021... I have the same menu system as the 34GP83A and I have the LG red logo on the back. Not sure why LG is doing it this way, but i think the "new" GN850's are using the same new panel and housing.... strange indeed. Canadian Amazon btw.
I have ordered a 34GN850 in germany and it is also on the box. But it has the new red logo and also shows it as LG ultragear in the driver. im confused
@@TechWithSean Hi Sean. Not exactly. The 34GN850 is a Gsync capable monitor, which has the Gsync module built-in. The 34GP83A is a Gsync 'compatible' which is unofficially supported via the Nvidia driver. If you check at Nvidia's Gsync supported website ( www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/g-sync-monitors/specs/ ) , the 34GP83A is not listed, and that's because it is not officially a Gsync monitor. Gsync will most probably work with the 34GP83A with no issues, but the difference in price is due to the actual Gsync hardware module that is built-in to the monitor. Generally, the officially Gsync 'capable' monitors are more expensive than the Gsync 'compatible' ones.

Googling a bit around, it seems like the 34GP83A-B does not support Picture by Picture, while the LG 34GN850 does. Can you confirm?
Great review! Now I know what I'm gonna get!
Saved me lots of money, u the goat
Exactly what I needed to know.
this review was def what i was looking for, I love LG or samsung their screens are amazing and bright but i didn't know the diff between 850 83A.
very useful review, it seems that the GP83A is the newer one, benefiting from economies of scale (fixed production costs already written off etc)... unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available here in europe
The GN850 sells for way more in America then Europe.
Thanks for the video it helped out a lot!
All I care for accessories Is power cable and a dp cable , I think the cheaper alternative is worth it .thanks awesome video
This was great! Loved the music too. Sub'd
Whats the best choices for wall mount brackets for the LG 34GP83A-B?
I know its been a year but from amazon prime day i was able to get the gp83a for $669! I would wait out for the Alienware QD OLED but its very expensive and wont get it for atleast 2 months, not to mention many people are having issues with it and you cant even update the firmware!
Perfect. Clean. Clear. Short. To the Point of what we want to know. WHAT'S THE DIFF. TY
Do you know the length of the included DP cable in the 34GP83A-B's box?
Thats pretty standard for hdmi 2.0
The GN850 shouldn't exist in North America
Now i wish they would get rid of all ports other than one displayport and one hdmi and lower the price even more.
I have literally never not once used a monitor port
I think you helped me on figuring out which 32" 16:9 1440p to get, 32GP850-B vs 32GP83B-B. Really, they seem the same specs except the 32GP850-B list a 180Hz OC. Otherwise, both are 165Hz. Again, the 32GP83B-B $100 cheaper than the 32GP850-B and the 32GP83B-B is available in stock at my local bestbuy.
The only difference between those 2 32” monitors is the GN has USB ports.
can you play some games on them and see how they perform?
LG 34GP83A-B 34 Inch 21: 9 Ultragear Curved QHD (3440 x 1440) 1ms Nano IPS Gaming Monitor with 144Hz and G-SYNC Compatibility - Black (34GP83A-B) -- this is what amazon says.
Hello, what can u say about lg 34 gp83a?what about image quality, can you watch movies on it? do you think it is much worse than alienware 3420w?
I think it is better than the Alienware. You can definitely watch movies on this
Tech With Sean hello again,I bought this monitor,Do you really think that this monitor is no different from the gn850? I only care about the image quality, is it the same on both monitors?thank u
@@starkl1371 it should be its the exact same panel.
Got this panel from your reivew and my RGB is turned off. You have RGB on this monitor?
No there’s no RGB that I know of. I think the 38” has it.
Wait do you mean like an sRGB color mode, or RGB led lighting on the back? Lol
@@TechWithSean back lighting.
Ah nope, neither of these have RGB lights on them.
@@TechWithSean ok must be the 950?
Can this run 120hz on hdmi? Or is this only got display ports??? Please help!
How is the panel holding up.. still soild... so strange there isn't more info on this .
Yep still doing really good, no problems. Red Dead 2 looks really good on it, lol
@@TechWithSean the plan is for games and light web browsing. I can always shrink screens.
Would this work if I want to use this monitor to game but then also use with my MacBook Pro that I use from work? I want to use this for work and gaming with my gaming PC?
Yes as long as you have the proper cable to connect to your laptop
@@froginthebed5607 I was thinking of using an HDMI to USB-C cable that has the proper rating. I think that should work right? I just want to make sure that it would work
Why is this the only review out there of this monitor? Is the supply suuuuper limited or something? :D
It just got released last week maybe there will be more reviews up soon? 🤷♂️
Hello! A quick question none of them have speakers?? Thanks!
Nope neither one has speakers, just a headphone jack.
@@TechWithSean oh thanks! I love the Monitor I think I'll buy the 83 A-B but then also a nice speakers, do you recommend any?? thanks!
LG website lists the 34GP83A as IPS. 34GN850 is nano IPS
From the LG 34GP83A product page:
KEY FEATURES
34” UltraWide QHD (3440x1440) Curved Nano IPS Display
@@TechWithSean then in "Picture Quality" under "specs" it says IPS where the 34GN850 says Nano IPS.
i was just confused by that comparison but amazon etc say nano IPS for 34gp83a. i'll buy it thanks
Thats a great saving. I assume you are sending the other one back ?
Yep, they wouldn’t adjust the price, so they told me to just return the GN850 and buy this on a new transaction.
So yea.... just got the GN850 as the other was not available. Mine was manufactured in March 2021... I have the same menu system as the 34GP83A and I have the LG red logo on the back. Not sure why LG is doing it this way, but i think the "new" GN850's are using the same new panel and housing.... strange indeed. Canadian Amazon btw.
I think maybe EU + Canada kept the GN850 naming for some reason, I’ve seen a few similar comments. Thanks for watching!
@@TechWithSean LG made the mistake of not discontinuing the gn850 in North America when they introduced the gp83.
How much is the curve?
The LG on the back of the monitor is actually UG for UltraGear
Are AMD's 5700 XT and upcoming 6800 XT compatible with the 34GN850?
Yes indeed 👍
How about the curve?
I just ordered one.
Does the lighting on the back work the same on both?
I think only the 38” has RGB on the back, these do not
Thank you you just saved me $200
I find the LG 34GP83A-B drivers on the LG 34GP83A-B web page
Just got this for $581 Open Box after Cashback this is amazing if it is the same as the 850!
Wow that is a steal!
Great Comparison :)
That is not the LG logo, is their gaming logo UG ultra gear.
I got the new one with the Red LG logo on the back in a 34gn850 box.
It also has the 34gp83a menu font.
Are you in Europe? I heard of someone over there having that same thing happen
@@TechWithSean No USA. I got it about 2 months ago.
Oh crazy! Where did you order from?
@@TechWithSean I bought it at MicroCenter
I have ordered a 34GN850 in germany and it is also on the box. But it has the new red logo and also shows it as LG ultragear in the driver. im confused
Where did you buy it? I'm in the market for one and live in Belgium.
the difference in price is due to g-sync
They both have g-sync
Thanks dude your the only one that made sense on this whole comment section. Glad I got the 850gn.. got it for $860
@@mattsomeonewithansrt3948 cheers
Do both of these lack built in speakers?
Yes
