So for anyone that cares I worked it out to be that if you buy the unit (£750) and enough cans (£70 for 24) the first 368 pints would be £5 a pint (roughly what I pay where I live) to break even the cost of the tap, then after that just buying the cans it’s £2.91 a pint! And it’s still Guinness from a can…… can’t see how this will ever be worth it!
Plus, you could get a 50L keg for approx £150-160. So you could get 5 kegs. 88 pints X 5 kegs is 440 pints.. 440 pints / £750 is about £1.70 a pint. I mean.. That's all a little extreme.. Buut. It's good value!
Got the email from Guinness about it a week or so ago. Was genuinely interested until I saw the price. Complete rip off. No way it’s worth that much. Plus, I worry about being able to get the cans. Totally useless without that. It’s a no from me. If they ever stop the cans (like the surge ones) this is a redundant piece of furniture
I’m in the US. You guys get ALL of the fun beer gadgets! This will never hit the states and secondly, getting a 20oz. Guinness at a pub here is rare. The Guinness cans are at 16 ounces only. It’s a shame, really. Anyway, all the best and thanks for your videos!
A social club I work in had one installed as we don't sell enough Guinness to keep it on draught and I've used it both to serve from and had a few from it myself and it gets a thumbs down from my view point. As you said the time it takes for it to do the process of pouring takes way too long when the place is crowded and the taste isn't enough to warrant it being there. Very much a gimmick to me. It looks nice on the bar but that's about it
this is designed for small restaurants and commercial use. This will bomb if targeted at home users! Especially when considering for €25 you can buy a nitrosurge device and have almost pub quality pints at home. Personally i do not get any metallic taste off nitrosurge cans and god knows I've drank enough of them haha :)
Weird that their first advisement for it was gearing it towards the hospitality industry and then in their second video they seemed to gear it towards exclusively home use…?!
Good, honest review. I would suggest they aren't releasing it in Ireland due to the fact the Guinness quality control team in Ireland might not know where the systems end up if people just buy them to install in their bars/restaurants. Guinness would not want to be associated with poor quality pints in Ireland, so they've perhaps bypassed the issue by not selling in Ireland.
Guinness also offer free maintenance to any of their customers in Ireland, meaning their kegs will be replaced and any equipment will be cleaned by someone sent by Guinness every so often, abroad this isn't an option so they cant assure quality so this is the next best bet.
he said the cradel is spring loaded so as it gets heavier it changes the angle. The springs are gonna strech cause they are gonna be small to fit in the machine so after a year the pouring angle is gonna be noticably worse.
I know you mention the Fizzics machine in this video, I have one, I bought the nitrosurge unit (with the nitro cans), and genuinely the nitrosurge other than that first initial sup is nowhere near as nice as a regular can through a Fizzics machine when you take it as an overall pint. I find the nitrosurge pint gets really bitter on the second half. With the regular can, crack it very slightly (or do the pin trick) and put it through the Fizzics machine and it's definitely the best at Home Guinness pint hands down. I also tried the Nitro can through the Fizzics, and it's definitely nicer than the Nitro device, but again not as nice as the regular can when you deactivate the widget by either a slight crack or pin prick
Although I'd prefer a keg pour.... I'd love a system like this (& I don't have a lot of people I hang out with who love Guinness) If they ever bring it to Canada I'd consider getting it
More than happy to stick with my Fizzics draft pour and piercing normal cans. This is extortionate pricing and I can imagine cans being scarce (and expensive) like they were for the surger unit which eventually vanished altogether. Gimmick and not worth the fuss.
They definitely be giving out different pints to the Guru once he mentions his name...I was in Dublin few days ago and was waiting on a bus on Eden Quay. Decided I'd have a pint in Mulligans and Bowes and the pints were shocking. One in Mulligans was spilt all over the glass before it was given to me and the barman in Bowes was firing out pints like it was a race. No dome or anything. Genuinely think I would've poured better pints at home with the nitrosurge. Disappointing experience to say the least.
Went to Bowes twice over the summer, once when it was near empty on a midweek afternoon and the other time when it was packed to the brim on the weekend. The first time I went there the barman must have worked some magic on the pints, some sort of stout substantiation because it was the best Guinness I've ever had. The second time was fairly disappointing, nothing like the first time I went there, so I'd suggest you go there on a slow and quiet day if you care about the quality of the Guinness
Had a similar experience in the Gravediggers and was devastated. The Guru should wait outside while sending the camera person in to order. Appearing like a mythical creature as the pints land on the table. Would catch a few of the big guns out I would say
The reason for the two videos is they have aimed at both markets. First release was for Commercial, second release they were aiming for Home use. Also, the cradle is optional, so you can pour your own pints if you wish
If I had my own backyard pub AND the tap took normal Guiness cans I would probably. However, the unit takes its own microdraught cans and as such it relies on Guiness still producing them for it not to become an expensive lump of metal.
I work at Blackpool pleasure beach we used the surger for Guiness as in our bar/cafe as we only have space for 1 keg and so use it for larger. I’ll have to see when I go back for the next season but I’m sure this might take it’s place and we will have the space for it if we get rid of the surger unit.
I know I'm a bit late to this but I'm considering one of the following: fizzics, microdraught or a kegerator. The fizzics is by far the cheapest option. I'd be prepared to pay extra if the pint quality was worth it. If the microdraught produced as good or almost as good a pint as a kegerator with a lot less setup and fuss then I'd probaby settle for that. If it was the case that a kegerator setup properly would produce a far superior pint to either then I guess it would be worth the hassle and price. Any input from anyone?
It's a great looking bit of kit. But way to exspensive and the cans at over 3 quid each is silly. I admire Guinness for all their efforts with devices they make and trying to be innovative but this is probably too far and I doubt it will be successful. Great video.
I have an old school surger plus the new nitrosurge which is pretty good with regular surger cans. The only reason I would buy this is to look good in my kitchen, that would be about it but at £750 they would need to be half the price before I would even consider it.
I'm saving up to have a nice stout on keg at home.. All you need is a 2nd hand fridge. A nitro gas bottle, a vendor to get beer gas.. Plus a stout faucet... 39 psi of beer gas will have to be creamier than that... It'd also be much cheaper...
Could you do a review of the Fizzics beer machine and the microdraft as seen on Facebook some taking the top of the can off with some sort of can opener and then using the fizzics it looked good. As the guru it would be nice to hear an honest review and see is it just as good as the 900 quid unit
Big fan of the the vids, bruv. Just curious, have you ever tried a guinness from the states? Obviously, we know that they are shite compared to the real deal, but I'd love to see your tasting notes on what exactly is missing from the American version. I can help with attaining such things as I live in California. Cheers 🍻
I’m 40 years old and never tasted Guinness before in my life till two weeks ago. I bought some cans to try. And now love it. I feel gutted I never tasted it before. I now only drink Guinness. I even have a perfect draft machine but I’m not even drinking from that anymore lol. Ive been saying where have you been all my life every time I pour a can. Can’t wait to try a pint from a pub
Also the most important thing for people ordering a Guinness at restaurants and bars would be seeing a Guinness tap on the bar. If there’s no tap people will just pick something else. Draught vs Micro Draught, the majority of people wouldn’t notice or care at all.
Only their special cans work in the machine, that's a bit rough, surely they should have made it universal so you can buy Guinness cans from the off license! All a bit too elitist and exclusive for my taste, Guinness is a working man's pint, not a technocratic snob's. That's a No from me.
yes i have and its no use at all. The microdraught tap pierces a hole in the top of the can & bottom for it to pour. Great pint from the tap even though its from a can. Id say slightly better than the nitrosurge but definetly not worth the price tag imho.
Load of pish. I'd be surprised if they sold 100 units. Not sure what Guinness are playing at but there would be demand for the nitrosurge unit in the UK but no, of course they don't sell it there.
They are only selling it in the UK because they know the taste wouldn't fly with the seasoned pintmen over at home! Saying that, I'm living in Tenerife and have resorted to cans of Guiness for the last 6 months so this would be ideal :( On 2nd thought, €900....
Price of the machine is high but as you say alot of work has gone In to the design and build of it so that's understandable. But this would only be worth it if it meant you could Have pub quality draught for the price of the usual cans(if you get them on offer in supermarkets in UK they are often £1 a can or even slightly less) but at £3.40 a can I'd rather go and support my local social club and drink there. And for pubs and restaurants to use this wouldn't be financially viable, once they paid there alcohol tax on the can they would have to charge £7 a pint or more so be worth selling.. Also there is the very real possibility that because of the price of its not popular it will be discontinued in a few years and the cans won't be available
You need to get to the greenore railway bar it's in the quays in dundalk, I have drank Guinness a long time, but in this bar it was unreal, by far the best Guinness I have tried in year's
If it was an investment spread over a few years…? maybe even at the crazy price, it might just be worth it to have a good pint - when you can’t get home much. But something about the price point of the cans, only getting them from Guinness online and the whole thing only being available in UK makes me think this is just testing what crazy price the likely biggest market for this will bear and building the customer research before then launching it elsewhere).
Guinness spending millions to try and reinvent the wheel. If i saw one of these in a pub I’d walk out. Same as the surger units. Promotes lazy bar keeping. Guinness should be spending this money on better checks for pubs to make sure “the guinness consumer” is getting the best pint at every pub they provide.
€900 euro plus the price of the cans seems extremely steep to me and more of a gimmick ? I couldn’t even see it working in a social aspect as it’s one can at a time .. The automation aspect takes away from the reward of pulling that perfect point .. From all the lockdowns I like a normal can of Guinness at this stage and I can get them in every off-licence …
just a guess, but perhaps they don't see a market for it in Ireland. most people in Ireland who enjoy Guinness and drink it regularly at home would probs just get a keg installed which makes financial sense to do so. but if your in the UK its most likely more expensive to ship kegs over as its not as popular in the uk as it is here and u have to deal with transport costs, customs etc. that's the only reason I can think of anyway
Possibly do to with the fact your Guinness on draught is infinitely better than the equivalent over here. You guys also have the Nitrosurge. But yeh it is a bit weird.
It’s a lot of shite if you were willing to pay £750 for an automated pump that tilts your glass and pours in your pan why would you not just pay for a real keg setup. It would be cheaper and much better and then there’s the price of further cans which prices it way out of the market. It’s almost like Guinness don’t really want you to be drinking at home
Love the channel GURU 👍 be interesting to see what you would score it when you do eventually get to taste one. Nitrosurger is probably the way forward for me but difficult if not impossible to get the cans in England at the minute.
Looks class but the price is ridiculous. The technology moving the glass.. Not for me. One of the best things about pouring a pint is pouring it yourself. I would buy it if it were cheaper and the cans were available in shops but I rather get regular cans or the nitrosurge for now.. Still looking for a nitrosurge today 😭
For how much Guinness sales must have suffered with pubs being closed and over the years with smoking bans and pubs being too expensive, so people drink at home more. You'd think they'd almost give these things away to encourage people to buy the overpriced cans for it. If the people into Guinness enough to watch UA-cam channels about the stuff are saying the price is bonkers then they'll sell FK all!
It's basically a spring loaded nitro surge.. Deff not worth the money. If they don't sell enough of them and stop they production in 12 months you end up with a useless piece of furniture at home as it supports only 1 type of a special can.. Useless
Don't necessarily think it's intended to save money on pints, but rather to have the convenience of a tap at home.
Plus, you could get a 50L keg for approx £150-160.
So you could get 5 kegs.
88 pints X 5 kegs is 440 pints..
440 pints / £750 is about £1.70 a pint.

At the end of the day… it’s still Guinness in a can so you’re just paying 900 for canned Guinness, no thanks m8

14:08 - Exactly this. Then it's the double whammy of living in the US and it is bloody hard to find a pub that serves a good pint of Guinness.

If I had my own backyard pub AND the tap took normal Guiness cans I would probably. However, the unit takes its own microdraught cans and as such it relies on Guiness still producing them for it not to become an expensive lump of metal.
You should do a video on the regular cans hack releasing gas slowly with a pin and use the jewllery cleaner. No metalic taste and a good bit creamer.
Plenty of places (social clubs etc) use the Surger Unit in the UK so I'd imagine this might takes it place.
I work at Blackpool pleasure beach we used the surger for Guiness as in our bar/cafe as we only have space for 1 keg and so use it for larger. If you have a kitchen like the Padraig lad im sure the price is no issue 😂 You can also get them cans in Eurospars across Kildare.
Tesco is selling 15 packs of Guinness Draught 440ml cans for £13. For £750 you can buy 662 pints at a cost per pint of £1.13.
we dont get pint cans in the uk (outside of surger which costs more) so this is sort of useless for a pint
If you’re even in London try Waxy O’Connors just off Leicester Square, great pint of the black stuff
Morrisons in the UK are now selling PINT CANS OF GUINNESS!!!!! Ya dancer!! Hallelujah! 🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I'm saving up to have a nice stout on keg at home.. All you need is a 2nd hand fridge. A nitro gas bottle, a vendor to get beer gas.. Plus a stout faucet...

There's one of these in a Café in Salthill already
€900 feckin hell. You could get a flight into Dublin and belly full of the real deal for a lot less. 😀
Thing is will the cans be around in a few years, 900 is alot for a machine that will end up having no cans available.
Why are cans not one of the most sustainable options now with recycling?
@@lightoftheworld417 he means the cans specific to the device

If the special cans are as hard to get as the nitro surge you can forget about it !
it is sold out in the uk
Probably only available in the Uk because the Guinness is bitter in the Uk nowhere near what you get in Ireland , not bitter , smooth & creamy
It's the exact same system from your Guinness 0% alcohol video. Grab a can from the website and head back to that pub and do a taste test.
The Fizzics is sold in the U.S would it be possible to do a video on how a can of guinness compares to using the Fizzics device?
If using a fizzics machine, push the handle for the first pour and pull for the top up

hahaha. When it got to tap care, I was about to fast forward but no need!
I can get a lot of pints for $900. 225 at my local pub. About double that at a liquor store.
You should try a Guinness in Downeys pub in Ballyfermot! Great old mans pub and quality Guinness!
A 17 min advert. Thanks for that.
Guinness should have given these away free with every 24 case of special cans.
This is to replace the surger unit in the UK and Ireland got the NitroSurgers
Good until you can’t get the cans anymore like the surger, never see them in a supermarket
"tap care, yeah.. That's for the real nerds" 😂 😂 😂
Complete waste of money and can’t see it being any different to nitro cans

Has anyone tried using a nitrosurge unit on the new micro draught cans?
yes i have and its no use at all. The microdraught tap pierces a hole in the top of the can & bottom for it to pour. Great pint from the tap even though its from a can. Id say slightly better than the nitrosurge but definetly not worth the price tag imho.
You did try it with a pint of 0.0 no? Also I don't quite get the can thing, a can is essentially a mini keg at the end of the day, both store beer 😂
The 0.0 machine is slightly different. You have the hold the glass yourself, and obviously the non alcoholic Guinness is different to regular Guinness
Load of pish. I'd be surprised if they sold 100 units. Not sure what Guinness are playing at but there would be demand for the nitrosurge unit in the UK but no, of course they don't sell it there.

Aye, seems it. Sure the only difference really is the wee cradle.
Wouldn't it be simpler for Guinness to come to a deal with Perfect Draught. £35 for a 6ltr keg
Love the videos lad, absolutely savage. But.... The second I heard not available in Ireland I said to myself "shove it up yer bollix Guinness"
Think it's only available in the UK because pub pints are too big business in the south.

It’s a lot of shite if you were willing to pay £750 for an automated pump that tilts your glass and pours in your pan why would you not just pay for a real keg setup. It would be cheaper and much better and then there’s the price of further cans which prices it way out of the market. It’s almost like Guinness don’t really want you to be drinking at home
i'd swap having this in the UK for the Nitrosurge only available in IRE any day.
No thanks. I'll stick to the pub for the beer with my mates and the standard cans for home..
I built my kegorator for under 300us so this makes no sense to me, but cool video.
I want one. Need someone to mail it to me in the US.
Love the channel GURU 👍 be interesting to see what you would score it when you do eventually get to taste one. Nitrosurger is probably the way forward for me but difficult if not impossible to get the cans in England at the minute.
Its hard to get the nitro surge cans in Ireland after Christmas
I get the tilt thing it's for people outside Ireland who can't pour so makes it fool proff, I think of shitlondonguninness horror shows 😂
Looks class but the price is ridiculous.
Ten cans of Guinness around nine quid in Liverpool think i will give this a miss.....
When the hardware is so costly why not make the software ( guinness ) a fairer price
It's still Guinness in a can at the end of the day!
A keg at a pub is can at the end of the day!
I built a 2 tap keeper for £450. Not a chance that yoke is worth €900
It's basically a spring loaded nitro surge.. Deff not worth the money. If they don't sell enough of them and stop they production in 12 months you end up with a useless piece of furniture at home as it supports only 1 type of a special can.. Useless
A very expensive thermometer
So what happens when Guinness stop selling cans for this gimmick
