The gap between her and the next best gymnast ever might be greater than the gap between the best and second best in any other sport ever. So ironically while she might be the best at any sport ever, she obviously can't be considered the best Olympic athlete ever. She simply hasn't been in enough of them. But as pointed out that's just a matter of Olympic timing and gymnastics age eligibility requirements. Given the Olympics only happen every four years (or five in Tokyo's case) and there are relatively few sports where a huge medal haul is even possible I think "Olympics GOAT" is highly overrated. Being undefeated and routinely winning by huge margins for eight years is far more significant. This is particularly the case in gymnastics where it is very easy for a small mistake to turn into a big mistake by falling or some other major error. If a swimmer or sprinter for example makes a small mistake no big deal. They just continue swimming or sprinting. And given the relative ease of swimming or sprinting a major error isn't really even possible as it is in gymnastics with many complex elements being done (with difficulty being magnified even more on the balance beam with it being so narrow and to some extent on the bars as well). Edit - A false start is a major error, but that is far more controllable than gymnastic errors.
Agreed on all points! I think maybe "Olympic GOAT" in my eyes means the best athlete in an Olympic sport ever. Yes, the results in the Olympics themselves matter, but also what they do outside the every-four-years event is so important, too, and she's just been unbeatable, and so far above her competition like you said.
Currently absolutely she is the best gymnast Olympian that have graced the floor the great Russian trainers told us that in Rio Mary Lou reddin told us that also.so after all , the philosophical filibustering nonsense written the conclusion she is the Goat 🐐
I never cared for any type of sports until I saw the God-given talent of Simone biles along with how Well She expresses herself when speaking she is like an old soul may God continues to bless you and your family
Nadia was astounding at the Montreal Olympics but the demands on the gymnast were very different then. Her leaps on beam alone would be hammered under the current code for not enough split. Her dismount would be rated at C where Simone's would be rated a H. Her last tumble in her floor routine would be rated at A where Simone's would be H again.
I think it’s virtually impossible to attempt to match these incredible athletes in the same category, I think it would only be fare to have a goat for each Olympic section, such as men in the swimming category , woman in their swimming category, and so on. I believe that it would be totally unfair to attempt to put women an men in the same category when they aren’t doing the same excersize, well that’s just my opinion thank you.
@@BizarreSmallville Most of those gymnasts as great as they were never had to do a somersault on beam , let alone do vaults and floor routines of the complexity of Simone

She’s no self proclaimed GOAT. She was given that title by the fans, her peers, and by the olympics. She’s definitely the most decorated olympian of her time.
I don't disagree with it. It's one thing to accept the nickname, though, but another to put it on the leotard! I respect the confidence, though, it's well deserved!
@@jasonbrynsvold8460 I have to agree. Great as Biles is, Phelps just did it I'd argue at the same level for his sport, for just so long. Though maybe the deck is stacked in his favor because gymnastics inherently has a shorter lifespan?!
No, not the greatest of all time. That’s an impossible title to give to any Olympic athlete and it’s insulting to every athlete who has competed before her, such as Olga Korbut and Nadia Comenici….who did not have the benefit of a spring floor to perform on or a vault pad, they had to use a pommel horse to vault back in those days. One could say that the athlete who has accumulated the most gold medals is the greatest but the wouldn’t be fair either. Personally, Eric Heidens performance in speed skating really impressed me back in the 1980s, as did Mark Spitz and Olga Korbut in 1972
That's the fun, to try to compare across generations and sports! I think Simone's dominance over her contemporaries is super impressive. Everyone she competes against is on the same playing field, yet they can't even get close to her. That's impressive!
Simone had her time in the sun back in Rio. I wonder how she would have done in the times when there were not any banned moves and no spring floor. That spring floor is what enables her to get so much height. Gymnastics should be more than just acrobatics. I’d love to see Simone perform on the same floor that Olga had to perform on in 1972. That’s where we could better gauge how good she is. The floor today is basically a trampoline. Nadia and Olga didn’t have that luxury in the 1970s and people don’t think about that and I they should. Everyone is like look how high she gets…we’ll, sure….take a good look at the floor Simone gets to perform on, then compare it to the rock hard floor they had to perform on in Olga and Nadia’s Olympics. There’s no comparison…and there is no way Simone could ever pull off the Korbut Flip. She’s not the great on utter bars. She’s basically an acrobat not a refined, artistic gymnast. It doesn’t matter anyway because she pulled out of the team and all around once she saw how good the Russians were. She could not handle the pressure so it’s written off as a mental health issue. I’ve been watching the Olympics since 1968 and have never seen such a melt down by a gymnast than what I saw the other day. The great ones don’t do that unless they are legitimately injured. However, Kerri Strug toughed it out for her team while Injured. She’ll be remembered forever for that courageous vault that she nailed the landing on her one good leg. Let’s see Simone do a vault and nail the landing on one leg. Great athletes rise to the occasion under extreme adversity.

I mentioned how dominant she's been over her peers throughout her time on the international stage. Even though it's 'Olympic GOAT', I think it encompasses more than their Olympic performance. She's been far above her competition for 8 years now.
