My late father was an original Anzac. He landed on April 25 1915. Joined the New Zealand army in January 1915. Shipped home in July 1917 as unfit for military duty. I am now 84 years old and I suspect one of a getting rarer children of WWI veterans. Note WWI was known as the Great War until WWII then it was renamed.
ANZAC Day was commemorated with respect and dignity in London yesterday. The bells of Westminster Cathedral rang fast and loud for a long time after the church service, in the spring sunshine, many other events took place, many uniformed personnel. The Cenotaph war memorial in Whitehall was busy, I paid my own respects there too to our Commonwealth brothers and sisters, to all. Lest we forget. From a Pom.
man, i never thought i'd get chills listening to Waltzing Matilda, but when the last post is played with it, and the song is sung slow its just amazing.
For the love and honour of the spirit of Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺, we will lift our hearts of song to commemorate and remember the valiant 🇦🇺 Royal Australian Army, 🇦🇺Navy and 🇦🇺The Air Force who gave their lives for their beloved country at the Great War (1914-1918), World War II (1938-1945) and the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960) and the Borneoan War (Malaysia-Indonesia Confrontation) of 1950. Lest We Forget
