- In Season 13 of Retro Comparisons we take a look every game released on the PS1 and the N64 that also got a port on the Sega Dreamcast to compare the differences between the two most popular consoles of the fifth generation to the first major console of the sixth generation.

The Dreamcast was just the Ps1 pro before we got the Ps2.
Now compare them both to the Uwe Boll movie starring Tara Reid and the guy from Hard Rain.
I'd much rather wait for a VelociPastor game to come out and compare that to the movie. Speaking of which, why is there not a VelociPastor game out yet??
I was really blown away when I first saw this running on dreamcast ,but after playing the ps1 version I'm equally impressed, they did a fantastic job.
Check out the gameboy color version too,another very impressive port.
I'm going to try and play through the game now I'm older ,i was too scared to play it back then!
These are both very impressive and a lot more fun than I expected. I'll check out that GBC port to see what it's like. I'm always fascinated by de-makes of games like this. Haha oh I know the feeling, I used to be terrified of the original Doom. Thanks for checking this video out:)

@@ThePolicenaut I've always wanted to play that game and my goal is to do a video on every single PS1 and/or N64 game that came out on the Dreamcast so that will be on my to do list.
This time Dreamcast wins hands down. Better even than the PS2 version. The 2D backgrounds looks amazing on the Dreamcast!
I played this for the first time when making this video and I was surprised with how much fun it was. At some point I'll need to go back and finish it. There's no need to play any other port if you have the Dreamcast version.
@@RetroComparisons yes!! And the 2D backgrounds are improving and surprising every time during the game. It's a very large, long and great game.
yeah im surpised at this i figured it be the ame as the re 2 and 3 games where the dreamcast had bad lighting but this time dreamcast has the better lighting
All ports are amazing in their own way, not choosing any sides here😅

@@RetroComparisons I know, it's quite refreshing, all that game over on the first run and start all over again, you feel great when you kill the boss without care in the world 😁
This genre is not my cup of tea (Eternal Darkness was probably the last survival horror game I played), but I remember this being a pretty well-review game at the time. The Dreamcast version certainly has higher-quality assets, but I do think the PSX version is pretty nice looking too.
Yeah this is not a game I'd normally go for but about an hour into playing I really started to enjoy it. I wish the Dreamcast version wasn't so dark but the visuals are great. The PS1 version actually looked a lot better than I was expecting. Now a few episodes from now when I get to Sarge's Heroes, ouch the PS1 looks and plays terribly.
The sound is the same? Or psx is the only original?
I think the Dreamcast just used the sound from the PS1 version but I could be wrong.
When I played this gae at schoolmate I didn't realize it was on ps1 too. Now it seems obvious (static camera, 2d backgrounds). Of course DC wins.
There seems to be a lot of games like this where the background retained that PS1 look where the forefront looked nice and smooth. If this was a Dreamcast exclusive the background probably would have been a little better.
@@RetroComparisons Of course. dreamcast is one of my favorite console but I don't like ports from PS because they don't use DC's potential.
For some reason since this game did not have Resident Evil in the title I had no interest in playing it. It looks like an okay game! Based on this comparison I give Props to the PS1 and shame on the Devs for making a shoddy port for such a capable system the Dreamcast was!
Yeah this is a surprisingly fun game even in 2021. It definitely wants to be Resident Evil and it's not a bad clone. The Dreamcast version is very lazy, it seems like all they did was improve the output resolution. I'm curious to see how many PS1/N64 games are going to be that same story with the Dreamcast.
@@RetroComparisons Interesting! I will have to give it a try sometime. I love the genre! But yeah lazy programming sucks it could have looked so much better like Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver wich was wicked on Dreamcast!
@@MikeC-ps1tc @Mike C I'm looking forward to playing that on both the Dreamcast and just in general. I remember hearing about that game back in the day and always wanting to play it but I forgot about it in recent years. Finally an excuse to check it out:)
@@RetroComparisons It is in my top 10 games for sure and the dreamcast version is perfect, the flawless play no loadtime is heaven and great visuals!
@@RetroComparisons One thing to note is that Resident Evil is a clone of the Alone In The Dark games. This is the 4th Alone In The Dark game and it looks like it took a few ideas from the Resident Evil games like the save system and health system.
You forgot the ps2 version & there is no n64 version.
This season is just going to be PS1 & N64 games against the Dreamcast, but I will be doing a season in the future pitting the PS1 vs the PS2. Thanks for pointing that out on the title, I'll make an edit since the N64 isn't in this video, I appreciate the heads up on that and for checking out the video!
