  • The School of Psychology was pleased to welcome ProfessorJanet Treasure of King's College London for the second instalment series of International Psychology Seminars.
Janet Treasure is Professor of Adult Psychiatry at Kings College London and the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. Her research focusses on the relationship between behaviour and the brain, with the overall aim of developing new treatments. This essentially involves patient input, often inspired by patients and emphasising the role of families and social support in care across the life span. This is exemplified by approaches such as the Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA). As well as authoring several textbooks and over 300 academic articles she has written several self-help books for patients with eating disorders, including Getting better bite by bite and Anorexia nervosa; a survival guide for families, friends and sufferers. In 1984. Treasure was awarded the Gaskell medal from the Royal College of Psychiatrists. In 2004 she was awarded the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) Leadership Award in Research, which honours individuals whose research has had a significant and measurable impact on the field. In 2007, the national eating disorder charity Beat awarded Professor Treasure the Eating Disorders National Award. She was awarded the Order of the British Empire for services to people with eating disorders in 2013.
