Thank you for the tour through Tamworth. My mother was born there back in 1927. I have always wanted to visit…I may get there yet. My maternal grandparents (also both born in Tamworth)came to Ontario, Canada when my mother was just six months old. I did get the benefit of hearing a few stories about the relatives that were left behind. There are several still there. Unfortunately, when my grandparents passed away so did the UK connections.

Having grown up in such a historical and well preserved area, it's no wonder you have an appreciation and curiosity. You find the World Heritage sites and local history where ever you find yourself. Especially with this video I forget I'm watching a 'youtuber'. Very lovely to watch. Just gorgeous.

I was born in 1956 atPolesworth but lived have in Amington for 40 yrs a 20 min walk to Tamworth Town center. Tamworth has changed a lot over the years but still has plenty to do, in the 60s the heart was ripped out of the Town destroying many historic buildings and streets that would have elivated the Towns value as a historic Market town these days and would be better known for that. Tamworth still does ok the castle being a big draw also the events like st Georges day jousting etc help too, neighbouring Lichfield is hard to beat for visitors as its better known with having a Cathedral i guess but i still think our Castle tops that :) great job on the video Mick.

Drayton Manor, nip through Kinsons field scramble the wall, dodge the security and our seasonal school holidays were made... 5p back on any Cola bottle we returned and tickets for the rides were always readily available with a little knowhow, wonderful times.

And The MoatHouse.I have lived her for some years, though a Southern gal.The two rivers r my consolation for missing the ocean. We had a dig here years ago & many older locals said how one man,a councillor had ruined the town. From a small extremely historical market town,to an overspill due to back handing. The councillor in question, even said in a newspaper article how he would've demolished every old building here, had he had his way.The guy is still hated to this day.He destroyed green belt land & allowed some real monstrosities to be built.Horrid Little boxes. He even took a stand with King John & Cromwell,in wishing to destroy the castle! Incredible.Thankfully there is still a lot of wonderful architecture still here. Its not home, but I am fond of the place & hope that never again will such a person ever have the power to harm this little piece of history.

You present Tamworth very well .
A few things missed out so ill fill in here .
The Colin Glazier hotel is named after a local hero . Its a name if there was justice in the world we would all know . On a misson at sea during the second world war Glazier and a chap called fasson were involved in raiding a sinking sub to get paperwork . They recovered books that explained the codes for the enigma machine , a machine that upto that point was uncrackable and detailed all german movements in code . They somehow got paperwork out but sadly both drowned that night . Its worked out by the actions of these brave men 5 million lives were saved and 5 years of war was avoided .
The Glazier family lived on Watling street Wilnecote ( to the south of Tamworth ) in houses that have now long gone , replaced by the Parsih hall and Sutton motorcycles .
The names live on in a housing estate further down the Watling street just before the river crossing at Fazeley . This housing estate was the site of produs which was also the factory for Reliant .
There was also a film made about it at which hollywood savaged history , pissing on the sacrifice these men made . I could not recommend it less .
Talking of Reliant the cars were made here at the river crossing with the housing estate oppossite having the name of some of the cars they made ( fox , kitten etc ) . Other bits were made in other parts of Tamworth but this was the main factory . Theres a club do once a year in Tamworth where these oddity 3 wheelers are parked up in the streets which is nice to see . You can find out more in the tourist infomation found in a little shop in middle entry .
Over all Tamworths a nice place . There is things to do if you visit but you wouldnt want to spend a week here . The castle is interesting and the grounds are lovely . You can picnic here and let the kids play on the play area which is massive or grab something to eat in the cafe . The birds on the river also dont mind a good feeding also . Theres lots of generic shops if thats your thing so we have a weatherspoons and whatnot but you can walk up and down and find things of interest even if its just popping into a local pub for a swift one . It is worth a visit for sure as the place just drips history .

We are old now so it would be great if you could just pay to go in the zoo NOT the park !! Ofcourse they never going to do that .
