It sounds like they're testing and investigating the feasibility of a 4th race, but don't want to commit yet publicly to something that may not eventuate. It seems they definitely desire a 4th race for the game, so that's hopeful and exciting.
Nice vid! Regarding factions they always used to say "more than two". Now with the 4th faction statement by Tim Morten I think it's quite likely that they HAVE planned for 4 factions, but have yet to make a final decision. 4 factions is obviously harder to balance so they probably want to see the game evolve a bit more before they make the call.
Thanks! Yeah I think you're spot on there. They don't want to overcommit to anything but have most likely planned for it internally and have at least the 1st year of content structured out.
I think it would strategically smart to make 4 factions just because that would result in more content potential down the line. You can create more skins, lore based events, unit updates each seasons without changing the entire race (for instance they could remove 1 unit from each faction and add 1 new unit and have enough change for a seasonal update instead of lets say change 2 units with only 3 factions) and they could appeal more towards casuals, who would love to play around a bit in the coop mode with different units and content. That being said it will be more work right from the start and I doubt they will make it happen until early access release. I can imagine that once early access is over and the game reaches "real" release, they might add an extra faction down the line maybe in 2027.
I would like to have a fourth faction. Of course 4 Factions are way harder to balance than 3, but it is one of the features that make WC3 more interesting than SC(2) to me.
I hope the fourth faction is the post apocalyptic raiders that will show up as creeps. I dig the models they shown up. Could be a very fun GLA rush/hit and run faction

2:40 i definitely don't agree lol, focusing on 1v1 is (imo) a big error, but at least it makes sense, going for the same format as sc2, but the no heroes thing is bad (iimo) and also weird, it's totally leaving money on the table, spending tons of dev resources on stuff that won't be in the main mode, and making people play with the boring units they won't have any connection to.,, this reminds me of that mmo..wildstar, it was also touted as by former blizz devs (from wow) and focused on a hardcore audience, and was thusly a really well made, well balanced game that was boring and sucked, and which no-one played because all the like, creative parts, were like 'cool enough' instead of being as cool as possible, but the balance needs work, which is all games that live a long life. i want to believe that at the 3rd hour the game will suddenly look really good and be really cool, but i remember lots of games like street fighter v, where they said that would happen and the release was just the same as the beta.
It could work to play an RTS with a controller if the mouse pointer is controlled by a gyro. The Wii was surprisingly tolerable to type on with the IR sensor, and while gyros aren’t quite as good as the IR was for that purpose, I’d be excited if someone tried to make it work.

so the idea is you either do 3 player coop campaign style missions with heroes, or you will be able to play kinda competitive 3 vs 3 game with the same hereos. im pretty sure there will be an option to play vs ai like it is with the 1v1 mode
Omg, dude thinks Windows is the only computer platform, assuming that “releasing for other platforms” means an N64 release lol. You know Mac / Linux users also exist, right? In fact this was a huge advantage to Blizzard games: being released on Mac. LoL and many other games have a Mac user base and many people are pretty disappointed that Stormgate won’t release on Mac initially.
Yeah, I like both sc2 and warcraft 3, but prefer warcraft 3, so stormgate to me is not gonna succeed. They should just stick to make a starcraft game if thats what they want, not try to cater to some "warcraft lite" thing. I would love a proper spiritual sequel to warcraft 3 tho.
